NOTE: If that Tera'd Volcanion were to use Flamethrower, it would get the first-time 2x STAB multiplier. If it were to use Fire Blast afterward, Fire Blast would NOT get the 2x STAB, but rather the usual 1.5x STAB boost since Flamethrower and Fire Blast are the same type.

hearing "serperior" and "banned from OU" in the same sentence is a nice change of pace for us serperior fans
Finally, Serperior is getting the respect it deserves! >:]
We Serperior enjoyers love to hear it
Our smugleaf got to badge of honor
Well it’s always been pretty good honestly. It was only a matter of time. I thought we would get more coverage but i guess we hit everything neutrally 😂
@@lorekeeper685i named it Smugperior😂
I think Hisuian Zoroark loves Tera Stellar as well.
It's a Pokémon that wants the offensive boosts of Tera Stellar, but doesn't want to give up the Normal/Ghost type, so Hisuian Zoroark actually makes a great use of this mechanic imo
I agree completely. Lots of coverage, likes the power, doesn't want to change the typing-- perfect Tera Stellar candidate.
the issue is that it can only use each boosted move once, sometimes not even that if you have double coverage
@@Emolga_Enjoyer True, Tera Stellar is certainly niche-- but it COULD be used on Zoroark. Most pokemon should never use Tera Stellar.
@@pinkacross2042 agreed, i think its a.. pretty terribly designed gimick but eh, dont think it will see too much uses aside from a few mons
GENARF
I've been confused until this vid.
Around 6:01 I love how the opponents team is based on Zelda
I didn't realize that!
The improved mic quality is greatly appreciated, the old mic make the "s" sounds ear piercingly loud lmao
Yea... there were a lot of problems with the old audio. I'm glad to see that the difference is noticeable! :D
Been having a lot of fun with stellar serp. It’s so funny seeing the corv switch in just for it to get bopped
Yea Stellar Serp is insanely fun
Banned serp would be crazy to see. Love the use of slides breaking it all down
Glad you like it! :]
Specs serperior with speed control like webs goes crazy
@@poofyfox6751 I think the benefit of Glare is so incredible that I can't see myself using Specs, but it certainly would be incredibly threatening in a different way.
Stellar feels like the most well thought out thing about the whole Terastal mechanic
Seems a bit complicated for a game designed for kids, but it is interesting!
@@pinkacross2042eh it's fine I think kids can understand how to fight against it and don't need it if they don't want it because it's not overpoweringly broken
@@pinkacross2042realistically, most kids would be using it in raids, where its more simple
@@PrismaAce Good point, I didn't consider that!
think of the children! xD@@pinkacross2042
I really feel like a "reveiwing veiwer-made teams" would he awesome. I would 100% watch you politely roast a low ladder team.
I have such a video! czcams.com/video/V4VSwCFe5gI/video.html
Thx for finally explain this new type
This is a stellar video
Thank you! :D
nice vid! glad to hear i wasnt crazy for using iron val booster with stellar type, didnt come up much but when it did it felt amazing as a late game sweeper. i still find defensive tera serp more comfortable with all the the sun teams running around, but maybe ill give it another try after watching this
Sounds good! I'm glad to see you're implementing Tera Stellar Valiant-- as you said it's not going to be used a lot, but it can go crazy.
Great vid bro, my favourite stellar pokemon atm is Excadrill. It gets ridiculously strong with LO and Stellar ohkoing even things like tusk often after an SD
Sounds cool! I haven't tried Excadrill yet but I certainly will soon.
Professor Pinkacross killing it with these educational vids
So glad you're enjoying them! :D
Thank pinkacross still loving your vids keep it up, also could you do a video talking about Smogon tournaments and preparing for them
Definitely! This is a video I'll certainly be making in the future.
Thank you showing that I aint crazy using stellar on Darkrai
Not crazy at all! I'd say it's the pokemon I'd be most likely to use Tera Stellar on, other than Serperior and Enamorus.
I enjoyed this type of content so I subscribed, liked and left a comment
Thank you!
I'm mostly an observer of competitive pokemon, so I'm not sure if this is normal for serperior, but seeing it OHKO rillaboom at 5:12 with a resisted leaf storm was so cursed.
Serperior has a lot of cursed moments.
It has 3x special attack and the move is boosted by grassy terrain and STAB. 2x special attack already evens out the 0.5x resist, so 3x boost, the 1.5x STAB boost, and the 1.5x from grassy terrain more than makes up for it and even makes it possible to ohko
Great video! I only have one remaining question after watching on stellar: If i use stellar tera for example on a meowscarada, do i get the 2.0 boost for knock off AND also for sucker punch, or only for the dark type attack that i use first?
Only the first dark type attack that you use.
EXPLODE
i’m really sad that nidoking isn’t in this gen. it’s ludicrous coverage with sheer force + life orb would have been crazy with stellar, especially with sticky webs to minimize predictions, will have to see how it is in natdex
I agree, Nidoking would have been a blast this generation-- such a shame.
hes without a doubt my fav pokemon to use competitively, so rewarding and satisfying to use @@pinkacross2042
this is hella useful 😭 i quit cuz it got stale know i don’t know what any of this new stuff is
Gen 9 OU is very odd and difficult to adapt to, but you can and will adapt with time! Good luck with the new meta! :]
@@pinkacross2042 type shit
I feel like stellar would work for tinted lens mons. Tinted lens means your move are already hard to resist. If you have 2 stabs and then have terra blast then you have three terra boosted moves which count as stab.
Like a quiver dance venomoth will gain a good boost on bug buzz and sludge bomb. Whatever comes in is going to take a good amount of damage.
Most tinted lens pokemon would rather run a STAB Tera, and definitely no pokemon that isn't a Contrary user should be running Tera Blast Stellar.
Do you have some kind of patreon because I really enjoy your content
At the moment I don't but I can certainly create one! Thank you for the support and kind words! :]
everybody forgets him but araquanid is back and one of the few pokemon that can 1v1 any set for serperior while also running sticky web and really powerful liquidations
Araquanid is interesting but sadly outclassed by Ribombee as a Sticky Web user-- Araquanid lost Magic Coat, which is a big deal. :/ Poor guy
@@pinkacross2042 araquanid although it runs sticky web most cases its usually just for doing a good amount of chip with liquidation and switching on on special attackers cause of its high base spdef
Kind of reminds me of the type gems in the form in of the tera boost
Yea I suppose they are a bit similar-- gems were definitely stronger though, from what I've heard they deserved the ban in gen 5.
@@pinkacross2042 oh yea for sure, stellar is lot more of a commitment then just ur item.
fast normal types would be pretty decent for stellar too. normal has amazing coverage and just weak to fighting (albeit) relatively common weakness tho
Yes, someone in the comments pointed out Hisuian Zoroark, this seems like a very solid abuser.
Now I wanna use serp and enam.
How does Tera Stellar interact with Adaptability? Cause if Adaptability works how to does with Tera normally, I could see it being very useful on mons like Crawduant. Not having to lose the 2x boost on one of its types in return for a one time 2.25x boost would be awesome. Also allows Crawdaunt to gain some extra power from coverage like CC.
It reacts in a way that is extremely unfavorable to the Adaptability Pokemon-- the multiplier is still 2X for STAB moves, so Adaptability pokemon get no additional STAB boost at all. Tera Stellar would be pretty much useless on a Crawdaunt sadly.
I love how contrary serps just wins if the opponent brings webs
Yea Webs is pretty much dead thanks to Serperior I'd say.
What do you think are the strongest leads of the current OU meta? Personally, while I see deoxys gets a ton of useage I bet grimmsnarl has stronger support when it comes to getting up screens reliably (w/ the added niche of forcing out magic bounce hatterene via reflecting parting shot lol)
I favor Deo-S over Grimmsnarl since Deo-S has Psycho Boost, which can apply significant pressure to Glimmora, Great Tusk, and a bunch of random threats. Grimmsnarl is also very one-dimensional, when playing against Deo-S your opponent has to fear a lot of different sets. Grimmsnarl is usable though, certainly. Hrott lead stocks have gone way up as well, since Iron Treads, Excadrill, and Deoxys leads are very common right now.
I think theres value in a pocket stellar mon on teams that can otherwise win a match without tera. I got blown out by a Stellar Ambipom in NU against my tera mon because its fake out was super effective and 2x stab, he got to switch out and have that supper effect fake out available in a way my tera mon had no counterplay for
does the tera stellar buff still affect the next move if the first time u use it missed like focus blast
If the move misses or hits a Protect, the buff will still be active the next time that move is used!
What is the value of tera blast stellar on serperior really? 2x resisted leaf storm is effectively 97.5 BP on its own, and boosts by 2 stages instead of 1. Are you just taking tera blast to beat 4x resists, and is that really better than running a different tera type or slamming dragon pulse on your set?
Tera Blast Stellar is for 4x resists for the most part, and preserving the PP of Leaf Storm. Leaf Storm only has 8 PP and there are many Pressure pokemon in the tier right now. Furthermore, there are a LOT of 4x resists-- Corviknight, Goodra-H, Archaludon, Heatran, Dragonite, Gouging Fire, Hydrapple, Amoonguss, Iron Moth... you get the idea. The 1-time boost for Leaf Storm is also quite nice.
@@pinkacross2042 Thanks for the explanation, that makes a lot of sense!
I only used it on my arceus, saves me time changing it for raid battles, spam snarl then terra judgement for super effective damage,😂
Sounds like a good strategy
What do you think about tera stellar on Iron Boulder? I find that it has one pokemon that needs to break through, like tusk or ghold, to destroy the whole team.
I would advise against it. I think it's more worthwhile to run a Tera type that allows it to resist Sucker Punch or Grassy Glide, notably Tera Fighting or Steel.
Am I crazy for thinking Stellar Scarf Ditto would be very good? Or at least optimal?
I didn't consider that! That seems like a very good idea, yes.
Oww now i know why tera blast was super effective one time and just neutral usually, thanks Pinkacross 😅 was so confused about tera blast stellar
Same, it took me like a week to figure it out lol
Do you have a discord server? Or what is the easiest way to contact you? I feel like email is so archaic XD
Email is indeed archaic. You can also contact me on smogon, discord, or on Pokemon Showdown. I don't have a discord server but I may create one in the future.
I was about to say that greninja could be overpowered with this if it ran specs + protean but then i forgot that protean stoped working after you tera your pokemon. Wouldve been so cool if you could give greninja 4 nukes for moveslots.
I'm not sure how Tera Stellar and Protean interact, but that's a cool idea!
First you send out terapagos
Then you win
Indeed! Thank god it got quickbanned, Terapagos was toxic.
@@pinkacross2042 I do think 3 days was a bit too slow lol.
I don't even play ou!
Terapagos is a menace Ubers already.
When I saw it in ou list I though it was bug lol.
What if you switch out and back in? Do you get the boost again?
No, you don't. Only the first move of a particular type per game.
@@pinkacross2042 thank youu that's been bothering me the whole week
@@akshayy_xd Haha no worries
Time for my old buddy porygon-z
I'm building it right now!
I just made a rainnteam thats good
Really? Send it lol
explode
The most annoying thing about serp is still glare.
For sure, you are correct.
I couldn't figure out why you wouldn't use this over just using tera to the same type to power up the move.
Did this video clear things up for you? If it's still a little unclear feel free to ask questions!
In case it's still unclear, I'll say this-- you get a boost on EVERY STAB and non-STAB move, which is one benefit. For instance, Zamazenta with Tera Stellar will get a 2x STAB boost on CC, a 1.2x boost on Heavy Slam, a 1.2x boost on Stone Edge, AND a 1.2x boost on Crunch.
Step 1 Be Terapagos/Contrary
If not, it's trazh
For the most part, yes. It has niche uses but it's certainly a pretty bad Tera type.
how does it work on adaptability?
Sadly it interacts very poorly. Adaptability just gets ignored essentially, so there will be no difference at all with the STAB boost of a STAB move used from an Adaptability pokemon with Tera Stellar.
So... You do not gain a stellar type stab when you tera stellar?
Correct, you do not. Tera Blast Stellar is a 100 BP Non-STAB move which is essentially 120 BP on the first use due to the Tera Stellar 1.2x Non-STAB mutliplier.
So Mewtwo is a viable option for tera stellar
In Ubers, I would imagine so, yes! Not sure if Kingambit is popular in Ubers, perhaps Mewtwo would rather become a dark-resisting type.
@@pinkacross2042 well to be honest. Mewtwo does have a lot of coverage but it's not good at using them without the stellar typing. So I suppose it depends on what you want to focus on your Mewtwo. Or do you want to live a hit or do you want it to deal extra damage?
I should've known everyone saying it was a 1.5 boost on stab was just bad at math
Yea that's a common misconception. It's a 1.3333x multiplier to the usual stab, but some people forget and just say 1.5x, forgetting that 1.5 * 1.5 = 2.25.
1.2 is like really underwhelming, that's just the arceus plates or the other items but once, and even then those items are still underwhelming
It is underwhelming, but it can mean the difference between a KO or no KO. Tera Stellar isn't very good, but it has its uses.
We need new contrary pokemon
Agreed, contrary is a sick ability
@@pinkacross2042 and shadow tag has such a sick name I hope a legendary Pokemon with op setup gets it with normal and ghost type or poison and dark type
Could just ban Tera stellar. It won’t really be missed and it would mean you don’t have to ban more Pokémon.
isnt ban worty, becose only very few Pokémon break doeant mean that is broken
A Tera Stellar ban would be unlikely, it's not very good overall and the only pokemon that MIGHT get banned due to Stellar is Serperior (which very well may have gotten banned with or without Tera Stellar)
The fact nobody is using this in VGC is mind boggling but I don’t think ppl understand what it does on the other hand idk if it helps most pkmn in VGC happy I ran across this vid. Gamefreak should be ashamed for making this game and mechanic and making it confusing
I do agree, Tera Stellar is very confusing-- I can't imagine being a kid and trying to use Tera Stellar lol
I'm starting to sense favoritism towards Iron Valiant
Iron Valiant is a very good pokemon! I think it's pretty cool but it's nowhere near my favorite.
Another scary thing about Stellar Serperior: physical attack boosts + Rillaboom teammate.
Rillaboom's Grassy Terrain:
- gives Serperior more longevity
- makes Leaf Storm trigger memories of Kyogre's Water Spout
- and most importantly, gives Serperior priority in its own Grassy Glide
That last point with the physical attack buffs gives Serperior a nice counter to other priority users outside E-killers and things that outrun it
Since you usually want Serperior to be Timid enough to flee from a Gastly's Astonish, Grassy Glide even at +3 might not score K.O.s
But in situations where your opponent outruns and KOs Serperior (and you can't afford a switch), some chip is better than none
And with the attack boosts from Tera Blast, Grassy Terrain, and the potential +20% from Stellar, that can be a game changer
Also, the footage at 5:20 in the video: if I'm remembering correctly, outspeeding a Sucker Punch makes Kingambit trip.
You are correct about the Kingambit mechanics. I just can't see myself using Grassy Glide over Leaf Storm, Glare, or Substitute, but that's a very cool tech! I think you could definitely make someone rage with that.
I tried it in a team... of starters. Grassy Glide is definitely niche (especially when Sub is the better option for dealing with Kingambit) but it does help a lot against Barraskewda.
also this comment is an excuse to drop a funny looking team for the next "roast my team" video lol; didn't know where else to dump it
Scorching Feathers is somehow the worst performing mon on the team... Well it *was* made for fun, but still weird that Scarlet KFC isn't busted.
