I just realised Alicent dropping the dragon was foreshadowing a dragon falling by the hand of the greens
And a callback to season one when Viserys dropped the dragon and she repaired it for him
And made it come true by putting down her own son.

It also feels symbolic of Alicent being responsible for the "fall" of Viserys' legacy. The war of succession between Rhaenyra and Aegon marks the end of 80 years of peace, and Alicent & her father manipulating Viserys is what brought the whole mess.
Alicent once repaired that dragon for Viserys which was a symbol of her repairing Viserys’s lineage and giving him a family and sons. Now breaking the same dragon is a symbol of making his family falling apart.
*Deamon's got Luigi's Mansion going on in his storyline, completely missing the war he wanted the whole time 😂.* I love it! 💯🔥.

I was unimpressed with the brothel scene a few episodes ago but that's on the writers. I know he did the best with what he had. I was far more impressed and entertained with this episode.

I just like seeing Aegon on screen icl. I think its the actor's presence more than anything. Tom Glynn Carney really embodies that role well
Yea I really like his character a lot. Lots of flaws to his character, but that’s what I like about him, and he’s conflicting about it and WANTS to do better, but dosent know how, and no one including alicent helped him. They just forced him into the position to be king.
I really hate Aegon but Tom gives Aegon a nuanced loneliness and vulnerability that's just fantastic to watch. Aegon just might be my favorite villain.

And a boy with a freshly dead son and too much power that doesn't know what he's doing. He's told to be kind, and he's too generous and gets scolded. He's told to be more stern and he hangs people out of revenge for his murdered baby. He'd rather be drunk with his friends in a brothel. I almost feel sorry for him

Aegon is by far one of the most relatable characters in the show and no one can ever change my mind. And Glynn Carney such an epic talent he is at portraying that lost boy just wanting to be given love. And when he isn’t given it he might find means to take it. That’s why he rushes to battle because he wants the love and the glory.
He is the only character that is not whitewashed they go fully mushroom on him and that makes him the most complexed and interesting character
i cant get over how good Tom Glynn-Carney is as Aegon. his performance and his takes on the character is very nuance. i hope he gets all the praise, he deserves it!! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

Aegon becoming the underdog of this show is.... unexpected. Dude was unloved since he was born. Abused physically by his mother and grandmother. Seen as less. Never seen as worthy of love. In an arranged marriage. Forced to wear a crown he didnt want. Tries to do the best he can, only to be ridiculed for not being properly trained for the job, despite trying. His son is killed and nobody but his wife understands the pain and would ratyer use it for propaganda. Then tries to take initiative and is ridiculed left and right.
No wonder he drinks and appears borderline suicidal. Nobody's ever loved him except Sunfyre and his kids. I tried defending Alicent before but shes a TRULY horrid person crafted by an unfair life.
At least he has Sunfyre... for about another year...

The amount of build up in the first half of this episode really was wild. Almost nothing but dialogue but it had my complete focus. The horror feel to Daemon's stuff was pretty cool and unexpected too.

She tells Aegon that he has no idea of the sacrifices made, even though his SON WAS JUST MURDERED, then accuses him of not listening and learning when the small council ignores him and she herself did not attend the small council as a result of her own vices, and when Aegon pleads her for help she just insults him. Yeah the scene with Aegon and Alicent pretty much confirmed in my mind that she was pretty much always a terrible mother, like Otto did to her, she maneuvered and used Aegon to be the heir for most of his life, filling his mind with poisonous and paranoia filled thoughts, but doing nothing to make sure he was a competent ruler, because ultimately neither her nor Otto wanted Aegon to be a competent ruler who could stand on his own two feet, they wanted him to be weak and impressionable, so that they could both control things, and so she continues their family's toxic cycle. She even tells Aegon he should be 'grateful' for her machinations, the same way Otto told her that she should be grateful for his, as it made her queen. Forgetting the fact that him on the throne was ever her desire, Aegon wanted to run away and flee from the throne. She is just as manipulative and cold as Otto was to her.
Yes she may have had a slight change of heart at Viserys' last feast, but a lifetime of resentment, anger, and hate is not so easily erased by one moving speech, and ultimately she heard what she wanted to hear on Viserys' death bed.

The double standards are truly crazy, Daemon is supposed to be just as morally dubious as the other side, that’s kinda the point of the conflict. He’s a massive hypocrite as well
Matt Smith’s charm and charisma goes a long way I guess. I will add I do think he is fantastic however, and I do like Daemon’s character regardless, I just don’t like how people are applying their standards when it comes to favoritism
Every character in this show is a shade of gray, there is no black & white here. Daemon is a complex character, but he doesn’t walk around pretending to be all pious, and self-righteous. In other words: he is no hypocrite, what you see is what you get. Matt Smith’s charm does add a lot of likability to Daemon’s character as well, he’s such a good actor and knows how to showcase Daemon’s complexities perfectly.
Cole got rejected over 20 years ago and he is still so butthurt, Fabien does a great job at really showing what an asshole Cole is. Cole still demeans Rhaenyra and was hoping to draw her out in this episode to kill her and satisfy his hurt ego. Alicent is the same, hypocritically judging Rhaenyra for following her heart, all the while she does the same things behind closed doors. She outwardly pretends to be dutiful when in reality, she’s too weak to go against the grain.
