One advice is don’t collect the mist echos from the first room. You are gonna come back here anyway, and if you open them later you will get more rewards. I usually open them after coming back to the first room after waiting for a long while. Usually gives me 2000 echos per box.
You say avoid enemies, but there are a BUNCH of enchantments that refill your mist timer for either killing enemies with your axe, precision axe throws and each successful Parry. There are enough enchantments out there that you can apply 12 of them... This GREATLY extends your time within the maze.

I only have 11: 3 per each piece of armour and 2 in an epic enchantment.

Buy the item from the shop that you can pit on the stone and open the gate .. this will help you to buy the armour against this damn mist
