The Importance of Washing Your New Goalkeeper Gloves Immediately

Everyone loves receiving brand new goalkeeper gloves. Most of the time, when gloves show up, goalkeepers, we'll pull them out of the bag and peel off the plastic and go train. This is the last thing you want to do. The first thing you need to do is wash your gloves thoroughly and give them time to dry.
High-end quality professional goalkeeper gloves have additives in the latex (grip) that must be thoroughly washed out to activate the grip. When the grip is not washed before use, they may allow you to hold onto the ball for a training session or two. Still, as soon as you train in wet conditions or simply apply enough water or spit to the glove, the additives will begin to release, causing the glove to feel slick (like shampoo or soap is on the palm), and you will be unable to hold onto the ball. When this happens, it's time to thoroughly wash the gloves. Note: You may need to wash your gloves twice.
