- I got given this Dyson DC40 the other day, so in this video we're going to try the lazy way of working out what's wrong with it. Can we get it working with blind ignorance and checking? Let's have a look!

Huge help! I had the same wire cut in the yoke assembly! All fixed! You are the best!
Thanks for the video! I just fixed mine in 10 minutes thanks to your helpful instructions. I had just been on the phone with Dyson for 40 minutes and they kept wanting me to change the filters haha
I just love watching this guy work. He seems so experienced.
on the half of the ball that does NOT contain the exhaust filter, there is a microswitch that detects whether if the machine is upright (thus controlling the head motor). it's the red wires that lead into the PCB. (the pcb itself could be the problem if the switch is fine). keep multimeter around next time to easily check that switch.
Thank you! This video has been very instructive. It turned out my DC40 had exactly the same issue as yours.
A big thank you for the informative video.Got our DC40 working again after watching this video.👍👍
Thank you for this video! Big help (both in understanding the machine better and in moral support). I think I've been able to fix my vacuum myself, which is pretty great :)
I was completely heartbroken when it didn’t work I was too invested I learnt a lot from this video tho thank you
Micro switch concealed in case on opposite side from filter. From upright position to floor vacuuming it clicks and energises the brushbar. Similar to DC25 which is a much simpler design and easier to replace.
Great video - really helpful in identifying the problem with our Dyson and fixed now. Thank you 😊 Top bloke 👍🏻
Still a cracking video Sam. Thank you.
Your video fixed my issue - thanks
Hi, I love your videos thank you. What should the output voltage be at the 2 connectors for the brush head? On a DC 41?
I do like the DC40 more now than I did before
They are aging well aren't they! Bar annoyances like this, still not done anything more about this one 😂
Was given a DC40, dropping it back from vertical, the brushbar runs, back to a comfortable angle and it stops, angle back up and it runs. Now I know some say that's an intermittent break in the loom, but the point it happens seems more like a misaligned upright switch, is that feasible, and is it adjustable?
Great Video Sam 👌👌👌
Just a thought, when you put the switch cover back together I noticed a wire had popped off the reset switch. Could that be the issue?
Will the later brush assembly without the centre wheel fit the dc40?
Brilliant videos. Theyve helped me a lot on fixing a DC40. I'm a little perplexed why this one is written off because the roller brush doesn't operate, when you didn't mention the upright switch ? I assume this can fail like other switches ? Is it difficult to get to ?
Do you have any videos that show where to install DC40 Plastic Cog 11-6205?? Mine fell out attemping to replace the wire.
educational and entertaining, thanks.I have one where the brush starts and then stops.Kicks off powerful, rollers spin freely but it just won't run.Any idea ?
I'd almost say your motors about to die... Or its a broken wire, but hard to diagnose without diving into it. Does it stay running if you keep the machine very still?
Sounds like your ball bearings have rusted on the inside of the brush roller . Can clean with wire brush . Or replace if needed.
I have a fantastic solution to my Dyson woes. His name is Henry. Unsophisticated but tough. Almost the opposite of a Dyson.
I got a dyson ds3 the roller won't go around I i check switches they good its not stoped up it got good suckson can brush roller be bad
I like the way the DC40/41s look but that's it.
I replaced the motor on my DC40 and it has suction; however, the roller bar only works in the upright and locked position. It does not work when I need to vacuum floors. Please let me how to fix it. I did not alter any wiring and ensured proper orientation and connection of wires to the motor (I only connected 1 at a time). Thank you
hunch!!! that they went for the 300 series upright as on sale as advertised!!!
Thank you for the video, I have a question which I hope you will answer. I have just picked up a DC40. The hose from the beater head to the motor housing P/N 924796-02 is perished. I think someone else was in this machine before I got it. Question is How id the hose attached to the motor housing. Is there a clop or something. Thanks, Bob in Sault Ste Marie
Hi Bob! Oooh it's great fun, it's held in on both sides by a bracket! czcams.com/video/aASMHkZyjsA/video.html
Yes I had a sod lol did you test power where had plugs in ?
I think it's the pcb. I wish I'd tested it properly now, but having replaced 2 of the 3 there's only one thing left! Still not confident though! Really should buy a pcb and finish the job and part 2. It's covered in dust and bird poo atm in the corner... (back right in every video recently)
I really wish you figured it out. Mine is broken just like this one.
Hi
anyone know where to get a Brush loom from plz?
had exact same white wire cut upon inspection, joined together with some tape, joint is strong, but the damn grey plastic feeding guide is a pain to put back

£13 here in the UK, hopefully the part no will help if your not in the UK 👍
@@beko1987 cheers
will grey and black guides for the cables be fixed on you know?looks like it in the pics, because that's whats doing my head in,will not stay in place, nor able to keep cables fed in,ballache!!
hi sam met parwaz 4 weeks ago great guy ,shame i got £60 fine in brum thats life lol..you doing a main motor change video next time please .
Check the wire loom assembly inside the ball they break and then no power to the cleanerhead and it needs a new post filter chances of the switches causing brush not to spin highly unlikely
Got a known good loom and brushrolls motor in it now, need to find a known working pcb (and yup, new filters too!)
Hi there Beko1987 Mine smells of burning when I use it what could that be??
Hi! Depends what sort of burning smell. Plasticky or electric type smell? Could be the motor on the way out if it's electrical
@@beko1987 Yeah its more of an electric type smell could the motor just be replaced?
Means your engine filter has burnt out and will need replaced.
@@JordanIan-ps9qlI stripped it back not so long back (still havent put it back together yet). But the motor was completely filled with a very fine powdery ash like substance. I took the motor to a work shop with an industrial air line and blew the thing completely clean. When I get round to it I will rewatch and but the thing back together. Thanks
CAN YOU PLEASE UPDATE WITH THE RESULT @@nw8000
The motor in our DC40 Animal MK2 (erp) floor head burned out at the beginning of this year after 4 years of service, the machine was still in warranty, so Dyson Replaced the floor head 👍
Our next upright will be a Sebo Felix though 👌
turns on rrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrreeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeh
I love your vids mr wattson!
