  • It was time for a longevity upgrade. With more power the yokes were starting to take a strain. Now with these cvd's they're a little beefier at 6mm instead of the stock 5mm axle shaft. They also use bigger bearings so I don't have worry about them seizing up as often.
    EDIT: There are now versions specifically made the the Slash 4x4 www.amainhobbies.com/traxxas-...
    Conversion List
    6451 x2-------------------Traxxas Front Driveshaft (1) - $33 x 2
    6452 x2-------------------Traxxas Rear Driveshaft (1) - $33 x 2
    6455 x1-------------------Traxxas Aluminum Rear Axle Carriers - $31
    6439 x1-------------------Traxxas Aluminum Steering Block Set - $27
    PTK-MR126-2RS x1---ProTek 6X12X4mm Ball Bearing (10) - $10
    LOSB5970 x1----------- Losi 10X15X4mm Bearings (4) - $6
    4955 x1-------------------Traxxas Pins, axle (2.5x12mm) (4) - $1
    3982 x3-------------------Traxxas Washer, Teflon 6x8x0.5 (10) - $4
    91171 x1-----------------AE SC10 4x4 FT Wheel Hexes (4) - $14
    Instead of the Aluminum Traxxas Carriers, you could get the plastic Tekno Carriers for much cheaper:
    TKR6837 -----------------Tekno RC M6 Steering Block Set (2) - $8
    TKR1952T15 ------------Tekno RC M6 Rear Hub Carrier Set (2) - $8

    wow, this new school RC stuff is amazing looking and in aluminum and steel. nothing like my old, old stuff Ive got cars that are 40 years old up to about 2005 maybe all of it is 1/8 gas on-road and some off-road . Ive got about 10 unopened BMT 1/8 4wd onroad kits. I was sponsored back in the late 90's and they would just send me 4 kits at a time to rape for parts I must also have 7/8 kits with only a few parts missing. Get this I also have a couple of associated RC 250/300 2wd 1/8 and 2 complete RC 500 4wd 1/8 one is the older chain drive and one is a belt drive LOL.
    I don't want to look too much as it wouldn't take much to get me tinkering again. Have fun and thanks for sharing

    Yes you can use your existing caster blocks, the only difference between the two carriers is the opening size for the bearing. I haven't had any problems with these axles. They're very smooth and they handled offroad perfectly. Really, even after many crashes these have held up great.

    Yeah, lots of money went into this truck. I thought about the MIPs but I heard they were heavy, so I decided to go for something else. All the reviews of the XO-1 axles were positive and I wanted at least a couple more Traxxas parts on my slash lol, everything else is aftermarket.

  • @CyconXc
    @CyconXc  Před 11 lety

    Yes you will need to get new carriers, either the XO-1 or the Tekno. The XO-1 cvds are 6mm in diameter (stock 5mm) so you need bigger carriers to support the bigger bearings. The Teknos are plastic, but will get the job done.

  • @steveskiba471
    @steveskiba471 Před 10 lety

    That is one helluva rig man!!! I know it's your call but I would switch the A-arms and shock towers to RPM plastic. Eventually you will rip the hinge pins out of the bulkhead with aluminum arms. U will be way faster in the turns once you lose all that weight. RPM plastic will never break unless its colder than 50 F. If its colder than 40 F, snaps like a twig. Lifetime warranty though. I guess it depends if you want to race it. Looks sweet.

    • @CyconXc
      @CyconXc  Před 10 lety

      Thanks for the comment Steve. I loved the RPM for bashing around but the truck needed some more weight for racing. I race on loose outdoor 1/8th scale tracks and the truck's lightweight just wasn't handling like I would have hoped. I like how it drove heavier, felt more planted. But the RCE chassis components are made of Magnesium, the strongest metal for its weight.

  • @CyconXc

Same as with the Axial SCX10 and many others depending on what type of build your going for. But I am always learning new things so I am curious why you would say pick a rally car and then convert it since the rally is the same platform as the slash anyways? When you said "two different toe-in angles" that is incorrect. What you have are two different options for the vertical placement of the carrier axle, which provides two different suspension envelope adjustments, which will affect CAMBER angle through the range of the rear suspension's position, not toe-in.

    So you are looking at like $225 in parts? Shit, I bought my brushless 4x4 Slash for less than that. Unless I was racing for money or something that just doesn't make sense. I will just keep replacing my factory parts every once in a while as they are so cheap anyway. From the looks of your rig you do compete, so that's awesome.
    Good video though, you do an excellent job of explaining and showing how to do the job.

      MrLuisom you need xo-1 carriers because of the 6mm thick stub axle. The stock ones are 5mm
