3 PICKS SHREDDED BY THIS "MADMAN"!!!
I can see very well
There's a boat on the reef with a broken back
And I can see it very well
There's a joke and I know it very well
It's one of those that I told you long ago
Take my word I'm a madman, don't you know
Once a fool had a good part in the play
If it's so would I still be here today
It's quite peculiar in a funny sort of way
They think it's very funny everything I say
Get a load of him, he's so insane
You better get your coat dear
It looks like rain, yeah
We'll come again next Thursday afternoon
The in-laws hope they'll see you very soon
But is it in your conscience that you're after
Another glimpse of the madman across the water
I can see very well
There's a boat on the reef with a broken back
And I can see it very well
There's a joke and I know it very well
It's one of those that I told you long ago
Take my word I'm a madman, don't you know
The ground's a long way down but I need more
Is the nightmare really black
Or are the windows painted
Will they come again next week
Can my mind really take it
We'll come again next Thursday afternoon
The in-laws hope they'll see you very soon
But is it in your conscience that you're after
Another glimpse of a madman across the water

Another example of an artist that isn’t afraid of crossing the borders of other music styles and does it with excellence.
He's not afraid.
And he did a great job belting it out!
" I can see very well"
He loves Neil Young and Elton John....... Good Taste.
Music styles….I had this LP and Elton rocked and played blues & country blended. He was in love with American music. Not criticizing just saying in the time when this music was produced we listened to so many styles. WNEW followed the lead of WABC which became WPLJ and late night was open territory. Frank Zappa, Pink Floyd, the Airplane, Dead, Hot Tuna….they were all crossing boundaries. That’s what birthed rock. White people playing what was called race music. Hell, Ike may have been the producer of the first rock song. Shalom
And he made it his own
He is Awesome! He nailed this song so well ❤
Hardest working dude in music. He jams back stage, he jumps in other bands' sets, does a solo act and then the headliner as well. He loves to play other people's music and brings new life to every song he covers.
One year in Charlotte when ABB was touring he was set up with two tiny speakers on a fold out table in the parking lot in 95% weather playing an acoustical and singing his heart out....Many people didn't even recognize him, I heard him from a distance and we went straight to him. After the opening band stopped he stopped, I asked him what are you doing out in this heat when you're due on stage with ABB in 30 minutes....he replied I love my fans and this is what I live for...I want to play, get on a plane and play again somewhere else tomorrow night....at the time he was doing many time three Gov't Mule shows and two ABB shows a week...I say that because you mention he is the hardest working man in music!
Can't not agree
Didn’t know what to expect when I clicked on this. Good gawd almighty!!!
czcams.com/video/oMeXtjyk488/video.html
I did, but I still needed to put my socks back on
He got it right. Didn't he?
I have NEVER in all my considerable years, heard anyone cover Elton John. This man killed it! Fantastic!
czcams.com/video/oVOstw9eKdE/video.html a better cover. somehow
BEST VERSION next to
TUMBLEWEED CONNECTION VINYL.
First it takes good taste , and then massive talent ! Go Mule !
Absolutely!! Me either... well said...!
You should hear Sarah Bareiles do Goodbye Yellow Brick Road.
The way this guy can take a good song and just bring it to another level is just amazing. Love ya, Warren.
One of the things I have always liked about this band is that they have never been afraid to do covers, and they do them bloody well
Tell the truth and she shamed the devil
Their covers are almost always an improvement over the original
I has the pleasure of sitting up front last week in Dallas when they were promoting their Dark Side of the Mule album and they crushed some Pink Floyd with light show and all. Took my 32 year old daughter and she was blown away.
Most of the time they do them better
Check out " Main Squeeze " and " Leonid and Friends "
Warren Haynes is a National Treasure!
I could watch this 1000 times ☮️🤙
One word describes the entirety of Warren Haynes' tribute covers; Masterful!
One of Eltons greatest songs. I played this LP to death. Levon, Tiny Dancer…and this Classic….
Those three without a doubt are the best, I agree.
Don't forget Indian Sunset.
@@PeterBrown-mz4nv that whole album was top notch…..by the way, thanks for reminding me. I remember the tune but couldn’t think of the title
@@michaelbrickley2443 That's my favorite Elton album!
@@PeterBrown-mz4nv they hit a high note. The lyrics, music, the playing was all top flight
His vocals are his secret weapon. Outstanding
Warren is the most tasteful guitarist I've ever heard and I'm 69 and have heard them all!
Is there anything this man cannot cover? I've never seen anyone/anyband who can cover songs in their own style yet remain so faithful to the original.
There really isn't. I saw Gov't Mule at The Beacon to ring in 2004 and they did Get Up, Stand Up by Bob Marley, She Said, She Said/Tomorrow Never Knows by The Beatles, War Pigs by Black Sabbath and Wish You Wee Here by Pink Floyd and nobody batted an eyelash, as they all sang along with pure joy, especially on WYWH, which was dedicated to late Mule bassist, Allen Woody, while home videos of his life played on the video screens. I looked behind me from the front row and every single person I saw was singing their heart out and most of hem were wiping tears. Such is the power of music, especially in the hands of complete masters.
this is without a doubt the best performance in my life Wow you killed it. I'm 70 years old feeling like 17 again thank God the music moves the mind and soul, triping without tripping so clear thanks man. God speed tucson tim
This Man needs to be in the rock n roll Hall of Fame... Fenominal on all levels yet doesn't get the recognition that he so deserves.. Gov't Mule Forever !!!!
That crappy horse s*** institution is not worthy of Warren The Mule. Screw them
No doubt it’s the best rendition of mad man across the water, period! Definitely underrated musician in the music industry, but not at all by the people who have ever had listened and watched him and band play
I agree, though Brandi Carlisle and band do a pretty good cover on 'Austin City Limits' (live video on CZcams)
I have to say the rendition with Mick Ronson and Elton John/Bernie Taupin is the best but this is the best cover.
Killer version of a killer song. Well done Sir.

I like the question that comes up, " who are the best guitar duets ever?" and my answer is always Warren Haynes and whoever he is playing with !
With Joe Bonamassa and Bermie Marsden to name a few and I was very lucky that I saw him preform live in London on more them one occasion with the 2 above-mentioned legends of 🎸
Warren and Derek Trucks were awesome together with ABB!
I have been playing guitar for awhile now. What makes Warren so great is technic, accuracy of notes, and exemplary expressiveness. Truly, truly one of the legends of guitars. All I got.
One of greatest bands most people will never hear of
I'm an old Mule from the git go. Nothing like the Mule except for more of it!
They don't know what they're missing
Just when I thought I heard every great cover that Warren and Mule have done, this one pops up on YT and blows my mind. Amazing version
I don't think anyone else could have done this song more justice. You captured the soul of Elton and brought your own guitar mastery. Simply perfect.
Warren is God
The soul of Elton John has been captured by Warren? What should he do with it? His one is much more beautiful 🤟
Brandi Carlisle kills this song
Come to Vancouver Canada to do some shows you will love the audience
Not arguing, but do treat yourself to Brandi Carlile's version as well. Just spectacular.
One of my faves done right
Outstanding rendition. The entire band is awesome, and I can only imagine how great that show was.
I can still remember it, we drove 1200 miles round trip just for this show!
Every live show is a gem. If you get a chance, just go.
This just popped up in my feed WOW this Man is amazing 💜Elton would approve thank you for posting this gem❤💖
My god Warren. Fantastic. Honored to have seen so many of your shows. With like 12 different bands. lol. Hardest working guy in rock and roll.
I know, right? Off-hand, I can think of the Dead, Mule, ABB, Matthews, Grace Potter, TTB. And they're just the ones I remember
Warren Hayes is just underappreciated. Great singer and guitarist. He can do any song in any genre. He could probably make a Justin Beiber song sound good.
He is appreciated by the people he chooses to be appreciated by. He doesnt want mega stardom. He likes smaller venues and doing his thing
Right, something Justin isn’t capable of.
I bet he could make Taylor swift sound good
Ok, let's not get carried away here, Taylor Swift(an actual singer/picker/songwriter), admittedly, she's not my cup of tea. At least musically, 🙄❤
But Haynes could certainly make her work shine, just not sure he would want to. 🤣🤣🤣🌹🌹🌹
Nah. Beiber is trash.
Nothing this dude can't play to make it sound awesome absolutely talented
Warren incredibly versatile musician and improv and great guy.
Met him on line at local CVS where we live. Genuinely approachable and nice human being.
BTW- Brandi Carlisle also does this song vocals justice
Brandi's version is 🔥
Warren is simply wonderful. What a great tune to play.
In all reality very seldom do covers come close and almost never are they better. Warren took Elton and Bernie's song and knocked it out of the park. I cant stop playing it
If Warren covers your song, it's now his, not yours anymore. Love this dude's musical gift.
Absolutely fucking GLORIOUS version of one of my all time favorite Classics!!!
czcams.com/video/oMeXtjyk488/video.html
He took on a seriously amazing song/ composition and wow! Amazing job.
I've loved Elton all my life and I'm really impressed.
Give a person a couple humbuckers and he does this. Haynes is simply one of the best ever
Uh-heck yes he is
Too dam right he is.
I LOVE this man’s voice♥️😊
I dedicated this song to my mom she went yesterday
I listened to it everyday for 2 months
SHE FOUGHT HARD BUT HER LIGHT FLICKED OUT
THE BOAT 🛶 WITH BROKE BACK ALL REMINDED ME OF HER INJURY
I’M THE MADMAN
BYE MOMMA
HE PLAYS WITH PASSION
ELTON DOES TOO
This man obviously loves what he does. So talented! Unfortunitly He's the last of a dying breed.
Warren, phenomenal talent, always does his own interpretation when covering material. It’s never just a regurgitation of the original 👍
His best cover I’ve ever heard/seen is Cortez the Killer. Love Neil’s original but the energy and passion Warren brings is mind blowing
Amazing performance by Warren Haynes. He has such a soulful delivery.
I've been a Mule fan for years. Warren is the best, most consistent live perfomer I can think of.
One heck of a humble, hard working musician! Always finds a new way to play the same song I've seen him do a dozen times before - innovative master!
If he covers your song he owns it. Fantastic cover.
Hello how are you doing it nice seeing you here ?
Hello how are you doing it nice seeing you here ?
I've got a five-day growth of hair on my shaved head today . . and it's sticking straight up while I watch and listen to this incredible take on the Elton John classic!
He's superb along with Derek Trucks. They played in Allman Brothers Band together - great years with Greg.
They helped Gregg make a couple of great Allman Brothers Band albums.
Holy shit this is crazy good. Elton’s greatest song with some serious Page mojo.
Like Jimi, Warren is one of those amazing guitarists that you come for the angel stringed pyrotechnics, but a year or two later, you realise just how perfect a vocalist he is.
Great version. But then again, so is every version I've seen on youtube, everyone from Bruce Hornsby to Brandi Carlisle. Simple explanation for that---its an AWESOME song, by one of the best songwriters of the 20th century!
Absolute classic! At 3:56 he checks his shredded pick, tosses it, grabs a new one! The man can wail on guitar!
Elton,I'm sorry to say this,But this isn't your song anymore, Warren owns it now !!!!!!
Bad ass. Warren takes the prize.
That's Funny 😁 ❤
You need to listen to the version with Mick Ronson playing lead guitar
Ok Sure
Yep, the Ronson version is unbeatable.
Elton is proud I am sure…having Warren Haynes wanting to cover your song is a giant compliment.
N Hayes is such a phenomenal guitarist I absolutely love all his music and I totally agree he is underrated and does not get the recognition he should
Warren seems to be enjoying this as much as anyone. He knows great music. Blows my mind how Elton and Bernie wrote music that was radio marketable with so much meat to it. So much meaning and soul. A fucking genius. A a preformer? Shit. Show me his equal
IKR...the deep cuts of Taupin/John...I preferred those sounds
Warren is one of the best things to come out of western NC. Damn, he's good!
Wish more artists did more covers of songs like this that have something to say.
OMG OMG OMG
The Guitar Takes On A Life of It;s Own
Masterful Performance
Truly Breathtaking
ELTON AND BERNIE MUST LOVE THIS AMAZING RENDITION
This man and his band never fail to impress! It's certainly NOBODY who does an Elton cover and nails it! And , yes, they do that Pink Floyd thing too, right? Very adventurous, yet always on solid ground.
Being a 50 year Elton fan Madman loans itself to interpretation. In this version it's way off the charts bad ass.
One of the best
My wife and I try not to miss this group whenever or wherever they are in Iowa. We haven't missed a show in over 17 years
look in that Man's eyes he GENUINE
Warren Haynes just kicks ass !
Elton, after hearing this, which you know he did, would have been so proud such a musician did his song justice as this!! A living Hendrix if ever there was.
One of Elton John's best songs covered by an absolute musical genius. Awesome
Warren is AMAZING.
The sound quality on this video is unreall 🤯
This is so f****** good. I'm just sitting here kind of nodding out and it's popped I'm Amazed
best version , even elton must think the world of this. class.
Holy shit! This is a madman on guitar and sings it very well!!!
Booooohaaaawwww, that was awesome !! Amazing live performance from only them 3 - I'm still shakin my hairs !! ☝️👏👌🤘🎼🥰🤝🍀
Oh shit yes, right on thank you boys and whom recorded and tuber who uploaded .... dude enjoying this now has gratitude for all of yous
Saw the header of The Mule covering Elton. Had to hear it. As always killed it
Absolutely KILLS it, no better cover have I heard!!
Warren guitar says perfect practice consistently with passion hot damn he is the total package
I Love how Warren can take over a song and make it his own! Love you Warren
yea yea yea the incredible guitar, his voice is even more so, always hits the soul
I was a fan of early Elton. Before the Yellow Brick Road and the glam. This song is a favorite, but these guys took it to 11. Well done!
One of my favorite E.J. hits ever and I am confident that our bro across the pond is pleased.Such a wonderful compliment.
YES!!!!!
THANK YOU
Powerful vocals.
Impeccable phrasing
Thanks for psoting this!! Absolutely fabulous guitar work here..
Excellent cover/re-interpretation of one of Sir Elton's best.
A fine wine, older it gets the better it is.
Gracefully.
My favorite Elton song love the madder versions
I would love to hear him do this with brandi Carlisle!
I have seen Warren with Gov't Mule and the Allman Brother many many times as he is incredible! Great version of a great song!!
your comments speak to this song, this artist playing this song, and just how impressive he is doing these classics...Warren & Dave Matthews in radio city hall, plus Central Park. Warren is a god, and his angeles are the musical notes, he sends our way.
Are you kidding me 🔥🏁🏁🏁
I remember seeing him with Allman Brothers. Great show.
I fell in love with his voice first then I saw him play he's a king amung his peers
You, sir, have outshined sir Elton on this one. I have his on original vinyl and you are just shreddin’ it, man🤙 Much love
Hello how are you doing it nice seeing you here ?
I Love Love Love Warren Haynes.. he is so bad ass!! ❤❤❤❤❤
Somewhere Elton is looking down and smiling about this song.
I know he isn't dead. I just figure he lives in a big mansion on a hill somewhere and looks out his porch checking out youtube covers sometimes :)
Be VMC VMC W
With his bung being pegged.
@@guyfawkes578 could ha done without that image m8y
Jesus you scared me for a second there
Classic song performed by the Master!
That's some REAL Talent right there folks!!!
Man all of him but his voice sounds like he s drinking whiskey always so raw and real
Outstanding cover!!! What a talent!!!!
Outbloodystanding. I am glad to have met the man when assisting with sound engineering at a medium sized venue in Atlanta. Unlike most talents, he struck me as humble and very approachable. God bless him some more!
How many picks does Warren Go Thru,I Love IT greatest Guitar player I ever seen and I saw a lot of great guitarists 🎸 I have tickets All the way back to 1977✌️
Most certainly one of Warren 's best.
Love Elton’s but this is friggin awesome. It’s my new favorite for a while!
THIS IS FREAKING AMAZING!!!!
LOVE YOU WARREN!!!!!!!!!!!!!
