I happen to think that the show could have just as easily be Seattlelandia, Eugenelandia, Santa Cruzlandia, etc. It's a great show, just that it could almost be franchised around the country to other towns that have similar obsessions and dull, subdued excitement. I'd love to work on this shows crew as a grip, but it's UNION. What's up with that?!

Abdul Basit Yes, because it's shot in Portland, hence the name. If you showed episodes of it to people in many other cities & college towns, but left out the detail that is is specifically Portland, you find that many would say... "Oh, this show is sooo Austin! It's sooo Cambridge... etc." I should know..I worked on a TV series that was supposed to be in Alaska, but it was filmed, ironically, in the Seattle area. LOlaughs.

Abdul Basit Yes, I know. I'm developing a Seattle themed show called Fremont Troll, locals know what I mean. ha-ha. Personally I thin k we need more shows about nowhere places, like the town where The Office is, or Northern Exposure, or Prairie Home Companion. Portlandia is a physical hallucination.

Actually the real pros always make it look "effortless". It's actually hard work and the two of them earn their pesos every day. Try working an 18-hour day, then trying to co-write new sketches the next morning after a 4-hour nap. Ugh. If they had a tip jar I'd give them each $2!

finished portlandia about a week ago ,loved it!
True story: I driving a bunch of people in a car and someone said, "The Ramones aren't that good, all of their songs sound the same." I switched the music on my Ipod immediately to The Ramones and I played every song I had for the next 3 hours.
Although this video is about Portlandia, I wish to resurrect this comment from 6 years ago to ask, what are your current top 3 Ramones songs? I’m saying “She’s the One,” “Today You’re Love, Tomorrow the World,” and the the version of “Havana Affair” off of Alive.
Portlandia is the reason I plan on moving to Oregon.

I heard that there are over 140 Starbucks coffee places in America. Typical, you start "liking" some coffee on FB and they grow into a giants monster. 140 cafes? Are there even enough people that actually like coffee enough to support that many of their cafes? Burnt coffee served with fluffy milk. I don't get it.

It is meant to be a joke, since in 1898, the name Ramone has been banned city-wide. Apparently, Judy Ramone, a silverminer from Missoula, killed the sherriff in a pretty nasty Montana kind of nightmare. Judged, hanged, quartered, and dispatched over the four corners of the state, Ramone and/or Ramones, is illegal to say. Look it up, its crazy american history.

Being from Portland, the Portlandia humor really misses it's mark for me.
It's funny, because I often hear, "Being from Portland, I get Portlandia's humor in a way you can't."
I feel like it's a kind of forced stereotype that people like to indulge because it gives them a sense of belonging. Like, there's a New Yorker stereotype, and an LA stereotype, and a Boston stereotype. This Portlandia thing, that's just a bunch of people nervously shouting "Yeah well, people from where I'm from act a certain way, too!" When they really don't, at all. It's the hipster's blue collar comedy tour.
Thomas Hoerauf I can see what your saying but the show is obviously exaggerating the fuck out of how it is. I'm originally from just south of Portland, but I've moved all over the country and am finally back and Portland is definitely its own world. It's not drastically different, but enough that it has its own feel. Do people who live here take it was to seriously? Yes, and it's annoying but its still better than Phoenix.

gogogodancer Carrie was born in Seatle, and they both live in Portland... Just saying. Almost all comedy is some form of caricature, I'm from Minnesota and it's not like it is in Fargo, but being from here you can definitely see the little bits and pieces of reality that were the basis of the exaggeration.
