Finbar Furey - Sweet Sixteen - Celtic Connections ! This One's For Piet Snellen "Pete McSnellan" from the Late Fookhook in Sevenum in Limburg Holland !
My brother requested this song to be played at his funeral (which was today god bless him 🙏) it was a dedication to his wife as they were childhood sweethearts and they just made it to their 50th wedding anniversary before he passed away early this xmas morning. Such a beautiful song for him to choose to leave her with. ❤️
Keep all your memories, they are good keepsakes....your tears are of joy, a precious gift your Mum gave and still gives to you. God bless, from someone who understands.
Song says it all i meet my Missus when both 16 had kids str8 away she sadly died cancer at 43 i truly loved her and still do - Miss & love you Sandra xxxx
the banjo is such an underated instrument ! Played by Finbar, it has such a beautiful & clean sound ! I never tire if listening to the music & him singing. A first class production.
What a lovely warm-hearted man Finbar Furey is. It comes out in his disposition and in his singing and playing in this performance of a classic beautiful song.
This gives me chills everytime i hear it, and its been about 30 years now! I had a sweet 16 girl, who il always cherish and have fond fond memories of💕
I'm an English born of Irish parents from Camden in London, met my beautiful wife from Kilburn also of Irish parents and I still sing this lovely song to her as we first met over 27 years ago when she was "sweet sixteen".....and she will always be my, as she was and always will, MY sweet.......sixteen.
Well I heard him in Germany in 2016 and there were no communication problems I can tell you. He is a national hero for me and a role model. Nobody else could have got me playing the pipes. He chated with us after the concert. A real gentleman I would say.
This song was my grandads song for my nana and always brings tears to my eyes when I’m listening to it play. May god keep them in his arms. I will always remember them both 💚💚🍀
I’m not Irish. I’m English. I know those two haven’t got on so well over the years but it wasn’t ever the English people. Just the government. That being said….this is one of the best songs ever written. ❤️
this song reminds me of my late partner we meet when she was 16and 4 days we went our own way after a while reconnected at a mutual friends party years later we have 3 wonderful kids sadly she passed away at 37 ,20 years ago this month when the oldest was 10 and youngest was 7 i here this and still remember the first time and last time i saw her RIP Annette
I sang this song to my mum the night she passed away because my late Dad would sing it to my mum and you could see the love she had for my Dad in her eyes and I guess some how he is signing it to my mum now as I write this down.
I dont care if hes aged since I last saw him. Finbar will always be gorgeous in my eyes and no-one can sing like him.Beautiful voice and I just love his accent
OMG...I cannot believe how beautiful Finbar is. I just recently discovered him, and the emotion and sensitivity that comes across makes me more than happy to be Irish. although i live in the US i was brought up by Irish parents and grandparents...way back to county Mayo. since i was a wee child i was told that to be IRISH was to be totally special. and i felt that all my life. My pastor, from Ireland always loved me, my parents and grandparents taught me alll the songs.....I dont know how I can thank everyone who is irish, and how i cant tell everyone how sweet and how beautiful being irish is!!! I love all of you.........i hope i can end my life in ireland........i cannot tell you how strong this irish life in me can be. Its a very emotional feeling.........how can we share this love!!!
God bless the Furey Brothers with much heath and peace because its very good to listen to them especially when they play and sing this song!!!! I love the sound of that instrument and i can't remember its name now.

Here in covid-19 / or covid-20, it didn't hit our beautiful island of 🇮🇪 Ireland till then. This legend of a man is still getting us through hardships with his beautiful cultured music 🎶 of our Island. Much love, see ye on the other side, Eireann go Bragh 🇮🇪 🍀 ☘ ☘ 🎶 🎶 🎶 🙌 much love my country xxx

Such a classic - brings back memories which span generations of my direct Philbin clan and also my 15yr initiation but failure into the cork ODriscoll clan, I'm a plastic paddy - 50/50 but so what my heart is in Ireland, all we want is fairness, contentment, love and treat thy neighbor as you would be wished to be treated -God bless xx
