- On March 17, New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio ordered all bars and restaurants in the city to close or serve only delivery and takeout in light of the COVID-19 pandemic. To pass the time during social distancing or potential quarantine, Insider is taking a look back at some of our favorite New York City eateries. I worked at Katz's Deli in 1968 for exactly 2 hours. Lol! I tried out for being the cashier there, but I wasn't fast enough for the lunch hour, which in that part of town was absolutely crazy! After they told me they couldn't hire me, I was offered to select anything I wanted for lunch. I had a corned beef on rye, huge side of fries! I can STILL taste that sandwich! So awesome! Great people too! Dying to go back someday!

The dude at Lucali's basically figured out 80% of how to make a perfect italian pizza on his own. LOL
I find Lucali's Mark to be very humble. Other Chef's at his level without show pride and how much great pizzas they make.
Ikr. As a chef myself, I thought Iacono had such a nice and mild temperament for a chef. Especially someone who's been in the business for so long. And very encouraging as a mentor too.

You know, the pizza man seems like a nice guy in how he patiently trained the reporter on how to make pizza. I like him! If I ever get a chance to visit NYC, I'll go and patronize his business.

I lived on the lower east side in the early 2000s and used to go to ray when he just sold the basics,he always made you feel happy,he would give you free fries if you had only money for a coffee,a great man
i have so much love for ray and his beautiful soul i actually cried when he was eating that chocolate because it reminded me of my grandma who recently passed and she was just a cute old lady who loved chocolate and shoved it in her mouth like that and he’s a cute old man who loves chocolate idk maybe it’s just me comparing her because i miss her but i needed to see that, thank you ray one day i will fly out to new york and the first thing i will do is visit your special candy shop ❤️

I've had Pastrami + Rye in multiple metropolitan cities around the world in multiple Deli style eateries, approx. 12 or 13 different places and honestly the best quality & tastiest was in Melbourne & a market food stall in Marrakesh.

Im from the UK and I’ve got to say I regret the day I ever went to Katz Deli on my visit to NYC because it has ruined pastrami for me! I can’t even go near regular pastrami anymore , that British supermarket pastrami I used to enjoy is over. Thank you Katz XD

I have been privileged to have eaten at several of these great places on my visits to NYC and I must say that you really nailed it. Ten great places. Are there more? Oh, yeah. So, after the pandemic lifts, have fun trying as many as you can.

I've been vegan for 2 years,Katz pastrami and Moumoud Falafel and Lamb on West 4th,a few doors down from Ray's pizza,across the street from Frit's,I miss them the most. Especially Katz's. It's an experience,best pastrami and corn beef ever.

Ray is the embodiment of New York City ... My friend's dad came to the US with $75 to his name and nothing else. He opened Mamoun's Falafel, not far from Ray's, which was one of the first of its kind and often makes these kinda lists. They say if you can make it in NY, you can make it anywhere, and guys like Ray and my friend's dad prove that to be true.

Rainy day yum yums! Saw this vid and made a beeline to Ray’s! It is literally everything the video said it would be! My mom is currently digging into the fried Oreos as I bust down my Belgian cheese fries! Everything is absolutely fresh and delish!!!! And Ray (who was the only person manning the counter!) brought my food out so fast! He’s so friendly. And efficient! Thank you Ray‼️😘😘I’m so glad I came.
