    In this video I will describe each guard from a number double 0 to a number 3 and how the metal guards cut shorter than the number they have on the faceplate of the blade.
    METAL GUARD 3 3/4 = NUMBER 3 GUARD PLASTIC AND MAGNETIC
    METAL GUARD 3 1\2 = NUMBER 2 GUARD PLASTIC AND MAGNETIC
    METAL GUARD 2 IS LOWER THAN A PLASTIC #2 BUT HIGHER THAN A PLASTIC 1.5 PLASTIC OR MAGNETIC GUARD (IN BETWEEN)
    METAL GUARD 1A = WAHL NUMBER 1 GUARD AND ANDIS NUMBER 1 MAGNETIC GUARD
    METAL GUARD #1 = (1/16 (#1) PLASTIC WAHL) AND 1/16 NUMBER 0 ANDIS MAGNETIC GUARD

    I always simplify it by just thinking of it as 1 size lower. So a 1blade is like a half guard length more or less. A 2 blade is like using a 1.5guard more or less.

      Thanks bro! I need to get better explaining I feel like I say um too much haha. I'll get there . But when I started barber school back in 2010. They gave me every metal blade except the 3 3/4 , I bought that blade from eBay my self . Each metal blade can range from $25-$35 a blade . They can get expensive . But I recommend learning how to fade with the metal guards when u can , it will change your fade and give the detail it needs .

    • @route3eb
      @route3eb Před 7 lety +1

      They're definitely an investment, but so worth it. I have clients that prefer coming to me vs other stylists who use plastic guards.
      Your clients will notice the difference.
      It's definitely a little intimidating at first switching from plastic to metal, I made a little cheat sheet that I kept out of their sight, just for me that has the conversions to plastic in case I forget.

      Great video I have been using the classic for the last 30 years and been a stylist for 40 years and just worked with a group of barbers and never used an adjustable blade before. I am still getting used to it and am to free handing everything but with bald fades being so popular and time consuming I see tue benefits for having all tools in your arsenal. I have always felt the Oster 1 was too close so that was good to hear. If it was a new client I always started with a 1 1/2. So clear and informative THANK You 😊

      Yea bro the bgr are good clippers the supras are cordless and pack more power . I just started using them in barber school man . Start slow , give someone a 3 on top and then try fadeing the whole cut with the metal guards . Then just clean up your fade with the masters, Oster fast feeds or whatever u have . Then move up to fadeing with long hair . Hmu if u get stuck

  • @fatsbigo
    @fatsbigo Před 7 lety +3

    Actually the Detachable Blade numbers are the TRUE NUMBERS. You have it backwards. The plastic guards are bad misrepresentations of the Detachable Blades. Most all Adjustable blade clippers start at 000 and end at 0A or 1. Most Wahls open to about 0A while the Andis Masters open to 1. If you check the millimeter measurements on your guards you will notice that they correspond to a specific blade it's trying to represent. The Wahls guards millimeter measurements are the farthest off. The half guard should cut the same as a detachable 0A, but it cuts a little shorter than a Detachable Blade TRUE #1. The Wahls 1 guard is the only guard that is a correct measurement. The "Guard system" are all in 8th of inches. 1 = 1/8 of an inch, all the way up to the #8= 1 inch. The same goes for the "Blade system" 1A = 1/8 of an inch. 2 is 2/8 of an inch. 3 1/2 is 3/8 of an inch. 3 3/4 is 4/8 of an inch. 5/8 blade is exactly that, 5/8 of an inch, and the 3/4 blade is 6/8 of an inch a True #6. Barber's today don't invest in their trade so noone uses blades any more. They use these cheap plastic guards. This is why Wahl has made the 1/2 and the 1 1/2. The 1/2 is a 1 and the 1 1/2 guard is the 1 1/2 blade. The Wahl guards never blended together correctly so they added what was missing from their Guard System The clipper open is 0A so they added the 1/2 guard to fill in between the 0A and the 1/8. They had the 1A in their 1/8 so they added the 1 1/2 guard to fill the gap between the 1A and the 2. Like I said before all the guards cut far longer than they should. Also the 00 0 and the "Half" are actually blade sizes. At one point in time Oster made 0 and 00 blades. The "half is what the Masters open is, so it would be a #1 instead of a 0A. If you ever get your hands on the the origin Model M Masters you will notice that the notches are 000,00,0 and1/2.

    • @BREEDBAZA
      @BREEDBAZA  Před 7 lety +1

      Osita Echebiri yea i already mentioned that in the comments. Depends what blade u have on the masters . Improved blade is a 1. Surgical blade is a half. I'm just going by with my experience. I know all the ("). It says them on the plastic guards. Clients don't know the details it's either a number. Just wanted to save some ppl before they cut to short with the metal guards in the future.

    • @BREEDBAZA
      @BREEDBAZA  Před 7 lety +1

      Osita Echebiri I agree. I never use guards. I just use them to cut the top of the head or to start my guideline. To finish my cuts I use clipper over comb with the 1-16 and 1-8. But that's advance . Just wanted to cover the basics but I agree

    explanation!!!

      That's probably why u are having problems bro . The regular master have a blade on them that is thick. (Improved blade) u need the fade masters blade . Just buy this blade . Not another masters . The fade blade cuts a lot closer so I can fade out lines better.
