      @@CZcamsBarberAcademy Great video! QUESTION: Must I add 0.5MM to every guard if my clippers are ZERO GAPPED? Which when lever closed, the blade teeth are kissing, without any room in between, cuts bald to skin 0MM.
      So do I add 0.5MM to each guard as instructed, or do I add NOTHING (ZERO / 0MM) ??? Looking forward to your response! Thank you 🙂

  • @Mike-hy8cs
    @Mike-hy8cs Před 4 lety +2

    May not be relevant to some people but if you are using your clippers zero gapped or adjust your blade closer to the still blade than what is factory the length at which your blade is supposed to open up to will be slightly shorter than what is intended. It doesnt affect the way your fades come out but it can give insight on why for example you have to use a half guard closed sometimes on your fades. Its because your clipper no longer opens to 1.5mm it opens slightly shorter than that.

    great video man.. somewhat confusing tho.. maybe show a hair model with guards into eachother with the andis? like the the andis masters open lever equal what guard

    • @Mike-hy8cs
      @Mike-hy8cs Před 4 lety +1

      A andis master open if you adjusted the clipper or zero gapped it would be like putting a half guard with the lever slightly open (like a quarter of the way open). If you left the clipper stock it opens to a true 1. Which is like almost a half guard halfway open.
      So my fade system i actually use the wahl half guard and then i use andis dbl magnetic guards. I prefer the wahl half guard over the andis 0 guard. I always felt like the wahl half cuts closer and leaves a better blend than the andis 0 guard does. The andis 0 guard i feel like i have to play with the lever more. With the wahl half guard all i have to do is use half guard halfway open and then open and im done with it. And then i can go straight into the andis guards.
      So i had to learn what blends into my masters open. All i do is use the wahl half guard halfway open and it blends perfectly into the masters open. And i mean super easily no lever play required.
      If you remember that the masters opens to about a half slightly open that means you never have to use any of the guards in the closed position because the previous guard would have done that for you already. No 0 guard closed, no 1 closed, 1.5closed etc.

      @@sekiro8980 you are probably not going high enough with your half guard. The half guard is going to really transition your fade into really light to starting to get to the darker lengths of the fade. You have to go high enough with it, there is a nice sweet spot with it where its not too high and not too congested. Seems like you just gotta spread it out more man.

    • @Mike-hy8cs
      @Mike-hy8cs Před 4 lety

      The 1.5 i can see a use for. Its more to get the hair to a specific length. More for people transitioning from wahl to andis. Its not really meant to blend into the 2 because you dont need it. Its more to set a guideline or debulk to a specific length. The .5 however is pretty useless lol i mean the only cool thing about it is that you could essentially use it like your 1.5 closed when you put the lever all the way open.

    Hi, thanks for all your content, big fan. May I ask if a closed taper is .5mm for most manufacturers, and most manufacture clippers come not zero gapped; what happens when you zero gap the clipper? Does zero gap mean it us now 0mm?

    • @Mike-hy8cs
      @Mike-hy8cs Před 4 lety

      0mm would be putting the blades ontop of eachother which you dont want to do. But yes you are correct zero gapping will change the measurements slightly. So if your clipper is supposed to open to a 1 and you zero gap it it will be less than a 1 when opened.

  • @darkichigo9037
    @darkichigo9037 Před 4 lety

    I don't understand if I follow you an open taper is 2.5mm whereas a half guard closed is 2mm. So why the half guard closed is above ? For me the half guard closed is longer than the open taper that why I don't understand the mm lenght.

    • @darkichigo9037
      @darkichigo9037 Před 4 lety

      @@CZcamsBarberAcademy I agree but as you said the half guard was invented to fill the gap between an open taper to a 1. So why the half guard is closer than an open taper. Because when I do my fade I use my half guard above the open taper because it is longer.

    • @darkichigo9037
      @darkichigo9037 Před 4 lety

      @@CZcamsBarberAcademy Thank you for your answer and yes I understand that what I thiking we can't see the difference. But it is really strange because everybody use the half guard after an open taper. So after an open taper it is better to use a half guard open. And moreover I'm definitelly sure that in certain case the half guard closed is longer than an open taper especially on afro hair.

    • @Mike-hy8cs
      @Mike-hy8cs Před 4 lety

      @@darkichigo9037 It really depends on the clipper you are using. If you are using a andis master for example it opens to a true 1. Meaning its a little bit shorter than a 1 guard. Like basically a half guard halfway open. Meaning if i put the 0 guard on the masters i dont need to use the 0 guard closed or halfway at all because the open taper does that already.
      Now if lets say i adjust my clipper or zero gap it. Now these measurements are no longer the same. My clipper will close more and open less. So i may have to now use the 0 guard halfway open for it to blend into the open lever.

For example...let's say you're using the Andis master with the taper blade, #1 guard, lever all the way open. Just the lever open that's 4.5mm + the #1 guard is 3mm + the cutting depth (distance of from the bottom of the open comb blade to the cutting blade which) is 2.5 mm giving you a total of 9mm...am I trippin or am I right??

      Well, if you put a guard on it, it’s definitely going to raise the distance, however, that chart if you look at, it was compiled and shows you all the different lengths
      Truth is none of it is really important or helpful. Once you learn what order they go in after that you’re set.
