Hey Claire, this is an AWESOME question! In Queensland, generally, you'll get in touch with the conveyancer when you're about to sign the contract. The process goes like this: - Find a Property You Like - Make an Offer On the Property, subject to 14 days finance + 7 days building and pest - Offer gets accepted - Real Estate Agent will send you the purchase contract to sign - You get in touch with Conveyancer to double check the contract is good to sign - You sign the contract and get rocking and rolling Pretty much it's at this point you get in touch with the building and pest inspector.

But you could look at trying to minimise the amount by sharing a place with a friend, or just renting a room.
