- A 10 day canoe & camping adventure into Minnesota's Boundary Waters Canoe Area in July 2017. Had a great time fishing with my father and sister.
Our route was: Mudro Lake - Fourtown - Boot - Fairy - Gun - Gull - Thunder - Beartrap Lake. Then back again.
We caught a bunch of fish, mostly Walleye and Smallmouth Bass. Saw a female moose too!

This short video reminds me of so much fun I had as a junior in high school. Myself, a principal, science teacher and 9 other kids went up for 2 weeks. At the time we stayed a night in Ely Minnesota and then canoed 32 miles in the boundary waters. We stopped by a lady's cabin named Dorothy. She was an amazing women. We had some very strong rootbeer that she made with ice from the lake she lived on. We could only have 1 since they were almost as strong as regular beer. She was the midway point for our journey. As a young high schooler that trip left me wanting to go again. Although I haven't been back I've thought about it often. For anybody that has a chance please go you won't regret it. Thanks again for sharing.
just might have tipped me over the edge
No way!!! I'm a junior myself at the moment and we're gonna do exactly that, it sounds epic. I can't wait to go.
@@DanielHernandez-ye5so you will have memories that will last a lifetime. I would love to do it again one day. I can remember everything like I did it yesterday. I hope you have a blast. Please reach back out to me after you go. Tell me all about your trip. I'm jealous!!!
My wife's grandpa used to bring supplies to Dorothy during winters on his snowmobile.
im so jealous you got to experience meeting dorothy!! her root beer is famous in our family when we bring them back from ely. she’s died, but her rootbeer is still being sold in stores!
The boundary waters is truly one of the most special places on earth.
My Professor was talking about his trip here and now me and some of my lads are going to go here
Great video of my neck of the woods. The BWCA is a great place to disconnect. You never have time to worry about text messages or emails. You worry about getting up, making a fire, cooking food, going fishing and doing it all over again before you pack up and leave. You worry about the wind direction more than anything.
I will say though that living off the land is a little misleading. While certain months there can be some wild edibles, planning to live for days off of them and fish is a bad idea. There’s no guarantee of either.
Great video! Looks like y'all had fun and enjoyed the Land. Thanks for posting your experience and getting people excited about Nature, and demonstrating how to treat it with respect.
I've been all over the world. The BWCA is my favorite place on this earth. Not simply because I am a Minnesotan, but because it is a very serene place. A chance to disconnect from the world and be a part of nature undisturbed. Moose, bears, skunks, chipmunks, etc. They all live differently up there versus the hustle and bustle of city life. I cant wait until the next trip I get. As soon as I am able to retire this is where I want to be! Great video guys !!!
I’m only in middle school but my high school does a trip hear and I can’t wait to go.
Awesome! You really captured the beauty of the BWCA
Also, some really beautiful shots here too!
Bravo. Good to see. Looks like an amazing trip.
I just watched your video. I enjoyed it. The captions and the pace of the video were really good.
It is on my list. How fantastic that trip must have been.
Great piece of filming. Love your camerawork.
That place looks amazing, great video.
Very nice video. Love the BWCA!
I’m going there in July this year, and looking at this video I know it’s going to be quite great. I’m going to have to portage with bigger canoes though, haha.
Looks like such an amazing adventure!
Definitely!
I love your videos and this one is the best 👍🏼. I am a great fan of your channel.
Agreed!
Nice. Nice looking family. Recommend carrying canoes last on portages. Better visibility with packs. So you can see where you're going and learn the portage trail first. The canoe is the lighter carry now, too.
That is true. More than likely learned by experience. Our first time we went from east bearskin to crocodile lake and thought it would be a good idea to carry everything inside the canoe while two people carry it up. WRONG IDEA! Again it really is about the experience and learning. Next time we did not do the same thing. Great tip though. Regardless of the issues, at least you are in nature having fun. NOT ON FACEBOOK!!! LOL
That was great! Nicely done.
Great video. Thanks.
Great canoe adventure guys !! i enjoyed watching it:)
looked like so much fun!
My uncle did a long kayaking trip like this in Minnesota. My cousins live up there and the area is beautiful. The mosquitos are intense though in summer lol
The mosquitoes aren't bad if you camp on a breezy point. They are also FAR less bothersome in August.
I’m from Minnesota but have never been yet ! Dope editing and shots
You gotta get out there asap!
Man so much extra weight in tents brought with! All 3 of you could've stayed in your dad's tent.
No on a canoe trip the extra weight is minor because you paddle 90% of the time you travel so might as well have some privacy
Lovely video!!!
Killer vid. I would love to do that trip one day
Awesome vid hunee
i'm came here from your blog :)
Thank you for using our music in here!
beautiful music it suits the video :)
Great music! You got a new fan!
I thought it was Edward Sharp at first but I realized it wasn’t. You guys have your own sound and it’s good. Slight mistake on my part. Will check out more of it
I am going this summer!
Beautiful country. Have you ever paddled north of the border there in Quetico?
In the first clip, were you putting in at Mudro? Thats where I put in and we went up to Wednesday Bay then went down and came out of Angleworm. Which was a 2 mile portage if I'm not mistaken. Awesome video though!! Makes me want to go back!!
It fun because we where in the same spot where you stoped are first
Im heading up there 4 the 1st time next summer 2018. Have been trying to watch vids for info & ideals. Have to say this is one of the best vids I've seen. Thanks
Excellent trip and video. Thanks for sharing. Where did you get the music for this video?
I'm about an hour away from the bounty Waters of Minnesota they're beautiful untouched we would like them to remain that way remember polymet is not anywhere near as important as our boundary Waters.
Fabulous share of a family trip into nature! Might I ask what were you using for bait to catch all of those fish? And, what maps would you recommend for trip planning in the BWCA? Many Thanks!
tree hammocks.....black bear burritos !
Thats the best canoe trip video I've seen - great work!! Thanks for sharing. Where did you go? I can see you put in at Mudro and then in to Fourtown but couldn't figure out the rest of the route. Where did you see the moose? I'm route-planning for a summer trip starting at Mudro right now, would love to get some advice
I will be going to boundary waters in July, I am a novice camper but I will be going with some people that really know what they’re doing
It’s going to be a five day venture, I’m nervous but I’m so excited also
Just make sure your paddle is the right way if you have a bent one and you'll know more than most people out there
great video! thank you. I saw that you were using leeches. Where did you get them?
nothing better
When I went to the bnoundary waters with my dad, and my friend and her dad, I was trolling off the back of the boat, since it was the end of a day and we wanted to find a campsite for the night, so we didn't have much time to stop and fish, and I caught a 38 inch pike just trolling. I'm only 13, and had never caught such a big fish, and I was scared so I gave the rod to my dad once i reeled it in and he tried to take it off but the thing was stubborn, so it wouldn't get off and ended up running with the hook still in its mouth. :( SUCH. A. FUN. TRIP.
Can you show us the many uses of the shemagh on video, please?
Where did you guys go to find fish
This looks great! Going to be there this summer. I am wondering did you only fish for the dinner plate in the evening before dinner? If not what did you do to keep the fish fresh if you caught one you wanted to keep and we’re not ready to cook it in the next hour? I assume you had no cooler.
What water filter and bag setup is that?
Super
No new posts from you?
How much did it rain in the summer?
great video! I need this in my life! What advice can you give an out of stater who wants to to a fishing trip? Do you set up a base camp? Or do you set up a new camp at different lakes? How do you know where to start!!??
If you want to do a wilderness overnight trip between May and September your going to have to have an overnight paddle permit. Your also going to need a Minnesota fishing license. To start out your research for your trip you can start by going to the Superior National Forest Website also to reserve your permit you will need an account with www.recreation.gov.
If you want to learn more you can go to www.bwca.com and www.ely.org. If your not ready for the wilderness trip there are plenty of semi primitive places to camp where you can have a wonderful experience. Hope this helps you.
Which lenses do you use in your a7rii?
What did you use to film?
Boundary Waters
Do you have bears here and can you shoot in the area?
I read about this wonderland in a National Geographic book, now I saw this. I'm in looooooove . . .
So, what happens if you canoe north instead of east? Is Border Patrol of either country waiting to cite or jail you, or is that even monitored?
What do you have on your legs? Chota Caney Forks?
Thanks! Those look effective.
can you recommend a place to look up maps, routes, etc... thanks
thanks
A pretty easy route would be mudro lake to sand pit lake to tin can Mike lake to horse lake to horse river to basswood falls area.. (and back)
Are your neighbors close by? Is it scary at night with no light? Like bears and what not?
Portages can be longer than a mile.. never do the trease-angelworm portage
I did that portage! It was long but my group and me made it fly by somehow ha!
Your videos are amazing i will try to copy your style in my videos :) because i follow you.
I was right there .... July 17-23, 1983 ..... traumatized for life. This s--- is Not for the weak or the average vacationer. :) jus' sayin.
Winter is making beautiful spectacle of nature. ps: please to appraise my short movie about Frozen lake in Primeval Nature. Thanks Your's for watching
