- This is a horror movie reaction to my first time watching IT Chapter One, released in 2017 and directed by Andrés Muschietti. Scary movie time! It's good to know what Pennywise is all about and why he is who he is and Bill Skarsgard nailed this performance. These kid actors are also fantastic and Sophia Lillis as Beverly Marsh and Jeremy Ray Taylor as Ben Hanscom are my FAVES. Honorable mention to Finn Wolfhard as Richie Tozier. This movie made me realize that maybe I can handle and enjoy scary movies more than I thought I could. Make sure to stick around to the end of this video for my full thoughts and review and thank you so much for watching! Let me know YOUR thoughts in the comments below!

This movie appeals to me personally because I grew up in a small town like Derry, (for me it was a town in Louisiana), in the mid 80's as a little kid and 90's as an adolescent and teen. Yeah there were no interest dimensional clown creatures that fed off of fear, then flesh, but there was racism, there were cruel ass older kids, and apathetic parents all around us. This used those very real issue's and combined them with this horrific clown monster, it hits. And I usually hate remakes but BOTH movies are excellent as companions, you should check out Chapter 2
Girl, I didn't see this one on ur reaction list. I'm kicking myself I missed seeing u watch this when u first posted. Horror is my jam, & just bw us I can tell u have more horror love in u than u think u may have. U can just tell watching how ppl react. Basically, let me make it simpler, watch ur reaction & then do a side by side comparison w our gal Cassie on PIB. Cass was fricken terrified and had to go get her hubby to sit w her to even get halfway thru the watch. Thought she was gonna pass out. Yeah, u may love it after a few more good horror movies. Amd one last thing, horror is way more than just silly jump scares. Horror is visceral & raw & amazing story telling w great acting that never gets acknowledged by" society" & so much closer to real life than any other genre if u do even a deeper dive into meanings if that makes sense. Love ur reaction. Plz plz watch chapter 2. The story doesn't make sense or feel at all complete without it. It's like only reading half a book. There is zero closure in this movie & just leaves u hanging. U won't be disappointed.❤💞❤️Thanks, hon, for making me smile!!!😊
Edit: tried to fix my spelling lol
Beverly wasn't just afraid of hair, she was also afraid of blood; she was buying feminine products for the first time earlier.
Oh yeah great point!
Fun fact: in the novel the body of Georgy was left on the street, thus his family did have some closure.
When you asked "how are they gonna get out of here" after they killed pennywise in the sewer I thought "she'd have to read the book for that cause no one in their right mind would put that part of the book in a movie" lol it's one of the craziest decisions in literature
Bill Skarsgård did an A+ job in portraying Pennywise, but nobody will ever beat Tim Curry
I think both are amazing for different reasons. For me its not about who did it better or who beats who. I just enjoy both intertpretations
Tim Curry as Pennywise in the library will always be one of my favorite moments 😅
Tim Curry as Pennywise is literally the ONLY redeeming part of the garbage original. Having said that, he’s not particularly scary though. Most people who talk about the original and how great it is haven’t seen that one since they were a kid, lol. There are quite a few reaction channels who did the 2017 IT and some of them watched the original and said it was silly and boring compared to the updated. The original Pet Semitary is vastly superior to the remake though. That’s the benefit of a good portion of Steven King’s movies being remade for the screen. You had decades where most of his movies would come out as made for TV movies or miniseries that were HORRIBLE like The Stand and especially The Langoliers🤮
@@EpicDave Gibe Tim curry a role let him go off and you get gold.
The original IT is hot garbage.
And thanks for age dating yourself cause you old as hell if you like that garbage.
In the film it is said that Pennywise makes an appearance every 27 years. The classic version of "It" was released in 1990, 27 years before this one, so that kind of makes the classic version canon in this universe.
Not sure if this was mentioned by anyone else, but IT's presence in the town amplifies people's darker tendencies, pushing them to commit greater and greater cruelties and evils. So when you asked why so many people in the town, especially grown ups are evil, that's partly why.
PLEASE watch Chapter 2. I’m not a big horror movie fan but I really love these 2 films and I’d love to see your reaction (hopefully sooner than later).
I think Ben's nightmare was the scariest. Eddie's relationship with his mom is a perfect example of Munchausen's by proxy. I look forward to seeing your review of Chapter II. The bit with Pennywise dancing became a internet thing where you could see him dancing to many different songs. And when it comes to horror, you build a tolerance. And if you know the 6 rules to surviving a horror movie, I guarantee you'll laugh during the Friday the 13th movies.
Fun fact. This one released 27 years after the first adaptation.
I think this is the novel where I realized what a genius King is. They really did a good job of adapting this script too, part two is definitely a must.🙃
That "big jump" and quarry is where I grew up. We used to do that all summer. Unfortunately because of lawsuits it's no longer open for jumping.
Reading Steven King is daunting. He can spend 8 pages describing a door knob. But usually it is worth it in the end.
The book is to me the gold standard of stand alone epics. It's more brutal and explicit, filled with intense gore and strange magic. I really enjoyed both parts of this adaptation, but it does lack the mythic, fairy tale vibe of the novel.
I like that comparison of the two different Pennywises. I quoted Curry's lines from the first one for several years and read the book after seeing it on TV and taping it off on to a VCR. I put some audio samples into a mix tape I made as well. As much as I liked IT back then, I would say the newer movies are even better.
Heh, I did almost the same thing, but the sound clips were from the movie Wizards. Had the "THEY KILLED FRITZ!" bit just before War Pigs started.
@@datwongai3903 LOL, love it! Big Bakshi fan as well.
This did a good job of converting the original book to a movie. The book is 100 times better but this is still a great moive and the kids were amazing. - Part 1 is better than part 2, but its defo worth a watch.
Sophia Lillis (Beverley) is who I originally wanted to play Ellie in the TLOU show before Bella Ramsey got cast, not so much from this but from a Netflix show she was the lead in. The entire cast kills it here, though.
Oooh she would have played a great Ellie! Bella did fab of course, but I can def see Sophia in the role too.
You getting all giggly during the scares just made my day 😂
Highly recommend reading the book. It's one of King's best and most epic imo, mixing horror with brilliant fantasy elements. The second film is also good, although I wish the climax had been more faithfully adapted. Definitely recommend watching it, though.
I did a quick browse through the first few comments here and didn't see anything regarding the bullies and shitty adults in the town of Derry. The idea is that IT actually permeates this aura that makes people worse human beings. IT is more then just the malevolent being its a whole effect on the town. So yes there are a lot of bullies and shitty people. But they were "sort of" molded into that sort of person. Thats not to excuse their actions but just to sort of point a finger as to why they were the way they were.
Nothing makes you feel more alive than experiencing fear of dieing and Horror can give you that. So yes I like horro movies, and dystopian future movies for similar reasons. Some I like more than others though.
And you will love the Stephen King novels and short stories, if you enjoyed this. You read a lot so I don't need to say it but they take you on a trip in your mind, talk about being submerged... and somehow it never seems farfetched once it gets going...
The girl who plays Beverly is also in the Dungeons and Dragons movie which is a really fun movie. One of the best this year.
Dude, 😂😂 another great reaction. Great flashback picture. 😊👏🥰
In the novel, there's a lot of detail about Pennywise's origins that was deliberately left out of both movies. The reason being that there's a lot of detail, and I doubt that someone who wasn't already a fan of Stephen King would understand it. When/If you a reaction video to IT Chapter 2, then I'll go into more detail about Pennywise's origins since it would be leaning into spoiler territory if I said anything in too much detail here. Just know that IT is a LOT older than is shown in this movie, and is also not the only one of its species.
However, the things I can talk about are just as interesting (in my opinion at least). Pennywise is a shapeshifter who can telepathically see into people's heads (mostly kids, though in the novel he does k*ll some adults too) to see what they are most afraid of, then assume the form of that thing. The reason for this (as said in the movie), Pennywise feeds on fear. A quote from the book is 'Fear salts the meat' which essentially means that Fear is like seasoning.
The reason that the adults ignore anything to do with Pennywise is because of his influence. This makes the kids feel more vulnerable, and they feel like they don't have any support, and so are easier for IT to prey upon. In the novel, the adults are kind of subconsciously aware of IT but his influence makes him 'part of the scenery' if you will. In fact, if anyone (meaning kids who can see him) even mentions that he's there or anything to do with him, the adults will become angry towards the person who mentioned it. They will be extremely dismissive of the idea (again, due to IT's influence).
There is a cycle in Derry (the town where this story takes place). When Pennywise wakes from IT's 27-year slumber, this causes extreme weather in Derry (the rainstorm that Georgie was in at the start of this movie was not natural). A disaster of some sort will then occur at both the beginning and end of IT's waking state (for example: the Ironworks explosion in 1908, The Bradley Gang in 1935, and The Black Spot in 1962, which were all mentioned in this movie). However, there are many incidents which were left out (refer to the novel for more info). These 'accidents' are deliberately caused by Pennywise as they are a great food source for him.
Though Pennywise usually revolves around a 27-year sleep cycle and a 1 year feeding cycle, this does sometimes change. Sometimes he will wake earlier than planned, and other times later than normal. Also, the time he is awake for sometimes varies too. Once he was awake for 3 years, constantly feeding (again, refer to novel for more detail, however this is a minor part of the story as it happens before The Loser's Club even exists).
I hope I have helped, and sorry for the long comment!
This is the Highest grossing horror movie of all time, $702 million dollars against a $35 million dollar budget.
That's wild!!
I love this movie and it's one of the rare ones that actually scared me and made me jump when I saw it in theaters. The Rock War scene is the most important one in the book because that is what makes them all friends and connects them together as the Loosers Club as it were. Ok let me explian something Pennywise is an antity that is older than the universe and is the darkness to the light. He makes people see their worst fears and then eventually feasts on them once the fear is fully within them. The grown ups in town don't see the things It does because he makes sure of that so once thwy see something they forget about it a moment later as if nothing happened. It also has the ability to bring agression out of people and then use them as pawns to put fear into the hearts of those that don't fall to It's mind tricks as it were and that is why he got Henry to attack the kids for him. Grate reaction and personlly I didn't like part 2 despite the fact that it does have it's scary moments at times, but you might seeing how you didn't read the book and all that.
So I live in Maine, where IT takes place and there is an business a couple miles away, cornmaze, apple picking, ice cream, gift shop, they do it all - and every year during October they have a giant red balloon that they set floating over the property.
The actress the get to play older Beverly in Part 2 was perfect. I see Kristen Wiig too, but the actual actress was dead on.
That clown photo of you was so cute. lol Being real and livin' the clown life.
A major difference between the book and these films is the book starts in 'modern' day (the 80's at the time the book was first published) and jumps back and forth between modern and 27 years earlier. The 1990 version did something very similar, so in many ways it's best you watched this first and then go back to see the 1990 version. It made more sense movie-production-wise to make the first film take place during the 'past' events and Chapter 2 (mainly) the 'present' events.
Another major difference between these films and the 1990 version is the 1990 version was a network television two-part miniseries that played during prime time and could - at worst - only be PG rated. Making the story a theatrically-released pair of films allowed the filmmakers to bring out more the essence of the original Stephen King novel - and even then there were major plot points that were too risqué for mainstream media to portray.
Looking forward to your reaction to Chapter 2 - in my opinion a more enjoyable film than Chapter 1. Once you have seen it I will write about my favorite scene in that film!
Saturn comes back around every 27 years. Great one as always K. Happy Holidays to someone that brings happiness into my home, family loves your reactions. The book is a must read, long but worth "IT" lol you get "IT" 😊
given that have have a paralysing fear of clown's this move and it's sequal AND the original terrified me beyond belief.....
Your lighted backdrop is beautiful. Im mesmerized by it.
I don't remember where it was explained (possibly it was in this movie), but basically there was a clown called Pennywise in the town at some point when it woke up in it's 27-year cycle and it stole his identity, because it really liked the idea and found it as a fun way to terrorize its victims. It can survive purely on eating them, but it enjoys feeding on people's fear. Especially children's fear.
IT is some kind of cosmic entity that the in-book explanation just makes more nonsensical, because the rest of that lore never comes into play at any point. Stephen King spent that decade of his life when writing it being high on drugs all the time, so the original ending of this part of the story is significantly more disturbing (and I'm not talking about a part involving Pennywise).
Huh, I don't know if I've seen Kai completely lose her shit before so this should be a good one. 😱🤣
Cheers and Happy Weekend from the East Coast. 🥃☮❤
Christine (1983) Is also a great film version of a Stephen King book
I think you identified what makes It - Chapter One such a great horror flick - it is very nicely balanced between the horror, comedy and drama. I read the novel before the mini-series came out, and I personally didn't feel it captured the creepiness of Stephen King's written word, but this film (and it's follow up) matched it in my opinion. I hope you watch Chapter Two soon. Really looking forward to your reaction.
IT was time. SK was great at writing about kids in a certain time and place, about their fears, what it was like to be a kid and the book and movie do a great job of capturing that, dealing with bullies, parents, friendship etc.
The imagery in this is soo good and Bills Skarsgard as Pennywise just his movements and running toward the camera, the creepiness of his performance is unnerving.
Playing the role actually had a psychological affect on him and messed with his head. The smile Pennywise does is actually BS smiling. Kaielle 🎈🎈🎈🎈🎈 5 red balloons out of 5, great reaction
The pics of you as a kid were too cute.
Great adaptation. 1000 page book very hard to adapt. The kids are great
I somehow convinced my mom to see this movie in IMAX. The last movie she saw in theaters before it was the original Jumanji with Robin Williams
you gotta watch the old "IT" ... Tim Curry is amazing as Pennywise... but another fun reaction
Both Bill Skarsgård and Nicolas Hamilton who played Henry Bowers were very nice and caring to the Losers between takes
I loved this, I hope you have a good day, afternoon or night❤️
This is an excellent horror two-parter, and the cast for both films is spot-on.
WOW!! A JAMES VS CINEMA pop!! That comment is still making me smile as I write this
Watching Mr. Robot with him on Patreon (it's my #1 show)! Really love his commentary/reactions.
This was more along the novel, but the 90sversion I liked a whole lot more due to the cast.
Watch Part 2! Yes!! So many don't like they get scared from the first or forget their is one. Lol. To me, it's just as good if not better. ❤
Good reaction, i liked these 2 movies, kids acting where great and bill as pennywise was top class, cant wait for part 2. Oh i had a new kids on the block cassette tape lol
John Wayne Gacy is a HUGE reason for the fear of clowns. Research at your own peril Miss Kaiielle. Glad you are here.
A good start if you want to read SK is Four Past Midnight. 4 short stories in one book.
This is my favorite novel adapted to screen very well. I love that this movie is a mixture of horror and childhood memories. Chapter 2 will be great. It is part of the same story. Can’t wait for your reaction.
The first bully to die was a way bigger psychopath than the main bully he killed his brother when he was a baby and tortured animals according to the book
I think we all agree to be glad they left out the child orgy in the sewer scene from the books. Man Steven King should have slowed down on the coke when writing
Great reaction! Can't wait for Chapter 2. Nice work!
IT is a great movie, looking forward to your Part II reaction. Enjoy.
Good reaction. As usual. I recommend you watch "ORPHAN", a film from 2009, which without a doubt, I think will provoke many reactions in you. If you want you can also see the prequel "ORPHAN FIRST KILL". (2022)
My feelings about this film are complicated. I think it's really well produced, excellently cast, acted, etc. It looks like the Derry and Losers Club I imagined reading the book (which is one of my favourite from King, the book's IT is one of my favourite villains of all time, but that's for another, post-Part-2 comment)
I love the coming-of-age stuff in the film, the group is great together, and it does creepy really well when it goes for that brand of horror (Showing how It has 'infected' the town, making adults turn away from the bullies' violence, papering over each missing poster with the latest missing kid, and the librarian in the background as Ben reads the history book was top notch) but too often, the film loses confidence in just sticking with the creepiness and defaults to the loud, run-at-the-camera-all-shakey scares. They didn't seem to want a scene to sit, or stay quietly scary, instead they tend to end on Big Scares almost every time.
I feel it gets in the way of itself too often, tripping over it's own feet a bit.
But, that being said, I do really like the film. It's a good adaptation of a book that's way too long to adapt into one (or even two) films.
The casting continues to really impress across both movies.
(P.S. We have the same BB-8 mug)
You've nerves of steel, poor Cassie nearly lost her head with this one lol.
I had to go watch her reaction the day after I recorded this and it was a good time. 😂
The conjuring is a new classic horror movie
Great reaction!
🤡🎈That's a good call Kaielle! Cameron Monaghan would've definitely made a great Pennywise. Apparently, before Bill Skarsgard. Will Poulter was cast as Pennywise. I wonder what that would've looked like 🤔 I can't wait for you to see Chapter 2.
This version SHOULD have made my coulrophobia (fear of clowns) worse, but shockingly, I was cured of it.
As much as I LOVE Tim Curry (the original Pennywise actor), Bill Skarsgärd did a better job being fucking scary.
I can't help but feel bad for Eddie. The way he's a victim of his mother's Munchausen's by proxy. A mental condition that causes parents to purposefully make their children sick or appear sick to get government aid.
In my opinion, It is not a horror movie, but a comedy in a horror context.
Theres a whole theory that Pennywise and Mary Poppins are of the same species.. Fun theory to look up lol
How you can tell the reactor is Canadian and not from US......'Why don't they just take him to the hospital?'
I would have recommended you watched the 1990 version first, only because the movie is much bigger budget and faster paced compared to the TV movie, so watching the 1990 version AFTER might be a little underwhelming in comparison. BUT Tim Curry is still excellent as Pennywise and it's still a great watch. Another good horror by Andy Muschieti is 'Mama' with Jessica Chastain; it basically got him the gig on IT.
The book was good, a bit long and didn’t really like the end , movie is pretty good, Pet Semetary the book and the movie are disturbingly heart wrenching and scary, thanks always enjoy your reactions!
I'm sure someone mentioned this by now but in case they didn't the kids were all asked who they wanted to play them as adults. All the people chosen wanted to play the adult versions of them. Who would you cast as the kid and adult versions of yourself if you were in the movies?
Reason why the adults were the way they were was pennywise having a hold over the town and affecting everyones personality.
Film leaves a lot out since novel was over 1100 pages and they had to adapt 1100 pages and stuff got left out and gladly some of it was not put in like the ritual of chud and the boys and beverly which was wrong to begin with.
Great reaction as always!! Can't wait for Chapter 2 reaction.. Hope you do it/drop it ASAP!! :)
Won't be until 2024 sometime. Movies nearly 3 hours long need a lot of extra planning.
@@kaiielle Understandable for sure! Still.. can't wait until that reaction!! Thx for the heads up tho! Ready for what ever is next 😊
They cut the scene from the movie but Bowers killed Belch and stole his car.
One of their best songs ever! So damn intense and that HUGE chorus. He sounds wicked! Do yourself a favor and listen to October Ends ' new song. React to it, please 🤘

blah blah and bless my mom for *holy f*ck what the hell??????? anyways!!! LOVE the reactions and videos so much
🤣🤣🤣
Recommend to watch It (1990), especially second part is better. The fear is the key. ;-)
I enjoyed the original more, probably because I seen it when it first played on TV. The ending to the original was pretty lame but the acting throughout was well done by some well known actors I grew up watching in different shows.
This film just had way too much cgi and jumpscares . it became tiresome to endure watching.
It's the thumbnail for me 🤣
What is that mic you are holding, Kaiielle ?
The Elgato Wave! The attachment broke which is why I'm holding it. Normally it's attached to a boom arm
You watch Blind Wave AND James?!?!?!
Sure do!
Stephen King books are hit or miss, but generally hits. Stephen King movies are miss or hit, and generally massive fails. This one is a definite hit.
I read Pet Semetary when I was 10ish. It changed how I looked at books, it felt like it was against the law.
44:22 'group hug!' Yea, something like that... 😬
Will there be a reaction to chapter two?
I'd like to one day! Maybe in October I can squeeze it in.
Soooo - How about doing the second Chapter? :)
One day!
@@kaiielle Great :) - I thought it couldn't hurt to fff...ffff...FLOAT!...the idea🤡
you were an adorable clown.
This movie had the potential to actually be a horror film, but the horrible invasive soundtrack absolutely destroyed it.
🤡🎈
Congratulations! you passed the first test!...✌️😈🥵🥰❤️!
Everyone seems to comment that the pharmacist is a creep, but no one seems to be concerned about Beverly flirting with an older man. Things that make you go "hmmm...."
Because Beverly is a child... It's on the adults to recognize inappropriate behaviour and respond accordingly. That's why the pharmacist creeped me out, because he didn't do that.
@@kaiielle Children of abuse have a high rate of promiscuity and early sexual experience. You'd be shocked to know what she does in the book.
Yes, they do and I expressed plenty of concern for how she was being treated throughout the movie.
Group hug... read the book.
"depending how i feel there will be a part 2", should be "depending on how this vid does a.k.a views, there will be a prt 2"
You commented this before you could watch the end of the video, where I say that I will be watching and reacting to Part 2 and to come back for that when the time comes.
A lot more than a group hug happened in the sewers in the original book btw. That's all I'll say about that
Honestly I prefer the book to the movie
