The battle between calories and intermittent fasting continues! A new study once again pits the two popular weight loss diet strategies against each other, but this time with a small twist. Can you lose as much weight as counting calories if you intermittently fast... while not counting a single calorie the whole time AND also not even trying to lose weight in the first place? If so, it may very well give fasting the upper hand this round and help maintain its long-running popularity within the fitness world.

lost 45lbs in three months with both and 10k steps a day. Honestly the biggest challenge is overcoming the mental barriers
Losing around 3 lbs per week is generally considered too much, though it also depends on your age and starting weight. Losing weight too fast can mess up your hormonal balance and that could cause you to eat more in the long run (the so-called yo-yo effect).
Will power can only help you so much. Survival instincts, regulated by hormones, will take over at some point.
@@swordchaos1181 I was pretty heavy at 265 now I'm much more confident and healthier
How was the fatigue?
non existent tbh kept to a high protein diet and made sure i drank electrolytes daily@@gyanaavaibhav
Losing 15 pounds prints for three straight months will cause certain death. You definitely lost some years in your lifespan because it’s too fast of a fat loss rate. Losing 1-2 pounds per week is the maximum if you want your heart to live for a while. That’s why I only lose 0.5 - 1.0% of my lean body weight per week at the very fastest rate. Slower is safer
For me Eating once a day in big portions is more satisfying than eat little for 3 times.
What happens in your body after 8-10hrs after eating food? Don't you feel hungry? I feel tired and can't concentrate on my work after 12 hrs gets passed from eating.
@aroraramanpreet1713 of course it's hard at first but our body will adapt and it will only get easier once it's become a habit. And I think eating once a day is naturally more suited for hunter gatherer like us. Imagine lion, they caught prey, eat big meal and fasting for the rest of the day. As long as you keep moving the grellins will be suppressed. Just be more active.
@@RamanPlayz410Not OP, but for me, it's hard at first. It get easier after like 20 days. And I feel like fasting help changes how I view hunger as a whole, it also helps me gain more self-control, since resisting the urges to eat really train your brain muscle lol.
@@RamanPlayz410 It's better to do fasting from 6pm to 10am, 16 hours. You only need to resist 6 hours from 6pm to 12am, because once you go to sleep you don't feel hungry anymore. Eat breakfast at 10am, lunch at 2pm, dinner at 5:50pm.
@@rwyo83I would say eat a big breakfast and skip Lu ch then eat a good dinner
trying to manage my weight was a struggle. this video comparing calorie counting and intermittent fasting caught my eye. Aspect Health, where i sought guidance, focused on personalized approaches. the study shows both methods result in similar weight loss. it's intriguing how the fasting group, without calorie counting, achieved comparable results. this might be a simpler alternative for weight loss, especially for those dealing with obesity. it's interesting to consider intermittent fasting as an addition to a weight loss strategy.
Definitely worth adding it to your arsenal! It's not the golden ticket to Rippedland, but it does help a lot with restricting calories, controlling your hunger, balancing your hormones, and if you combine it with other methods it can bring amazing results.
I recently started combining:
- intermittent fasting (13-18h)
- diet high in protein, veggies
- whole foods over processed
- meal prepping
- 2x beach volleyball training
- 2x gym, weight lifting
- drinking enough water
- sleeping well and enough almost always
And the results are amazing, and very quick.
It's not rocket science, it's applying the fundamentals consistently and creating nice routines out of them.

Best of luck, keep us updated ✊
Dont forget that in order to have a better diet and live healthy, Rest is also very important. I am doing rest 24/7. Merry Christmas 🎅
Burn calories in my sleep 😂
Never skip rest day, everyday is rest day 👍
Rest... in peace 😝
Love the lip animation is moving on the character now haha great seeing your animation always evolving still after all these years 🙏🏾
IF helped me heal my overeating problem... now that i have a specific time to only eat, it helped me discipline myself not to have food on demand instead eat when i need to.
bro just do both things 😂 it works for me, hit training intermittent fasting and counting macros (sort of)and calories
Do you make hit in your fasting window?
Fasting is redundant if you’re already counting calories.
@@brennand933Bro it just makes counting calories easier. You eat less meals therefore it’s easier to be consistent during those meals and count all your calories.
@@braynjohnson4302 Maybe for some people. For me it’s extremely easy to count my calories eating 5-6 times a day because I meal prep everything and label each tupperware with the macros and calories after weighing each portion size.
@@brennand933I found myself hard to continue working some days in the morning during 16hr fasting😢
When I'm on a calorie deficit I am hungry all day. When I fasting I am hungry only during evening and wake up energetically to finally get some food.
Thank you for your informative videos. Really entertaining as well. What are your thoughts regarding greasing the grove? I really find it difficult to stick to a specific workout schedule because of my Job.
Thank you,, very helpful
HIS MOUTH MOVES?!?!?!!
as long as you maintain a consistent routine of calorie consumption compared to your maintenance calories, you’ll get to your goal.
I do IF along with a slight deficit. The deficit makes sure I lose weight, but the IF makes sure I adhere to my plan. Without IF I would be failing my diet all the time. Weight's been coming off like crazy
love to see video on carb counting
Check out the awesome animated mouth movements! You've come a long way, dude!
The thing is, IF isn't just good for losing weight, it's for overall health.
Make a video about fasting and regeneration/repairing of muscle cells
Having Active Awareness of my Fullness that should be 80% Full and Fasting actually works for me longterm.
The Fullness Awareness was the gardest part of it.
Hey man, could you make a video on the blueprint plan by Bryan Johnson?
I think when I fasted my stomach shrunk making longer term weight loss easier.
I just watched ur old video a couple days ago because i’ve started IM 💀😭
this sseems like the easiest pairings you could just say I'll do both
Ooh, do weight gain. I thought skipping breakfast led to weight gain in some study. It did for me but my eating patterns are pretty irregular now by trying all kinds of things.
What if you do both?
Should I spread out my protein intake in 24 hrs or should I fast and eat only for 6-8 hrs window ??
lol you know you''ve been discussing this for too long when you can see the animation improve throughout each new video
Interesting
so it’s really dependssss……
I do both. Not a lot of extra work either way.
For me, IF has been far more successful than counting calories. When I get into "eating mode" I'll stack my plate high and clean it- I have a hard time stopping if I don't feel full. When I IF, I only go into eating mode once or twice a day, and I've found it to be far easier to NOT START eating then stopping myself in the middle. Combine that with lots of protein and avoiding desserts, it's the only strategy I've been able to maintain and see results.
IF is not a magic bullet. It's calorie restriction, obfuscated. It's the execution that makes it unique, imo.
Try incorporating both eat enough proteins and carbs fast for 18 hours remain in caloric deficit do 10k steps everyday hit the gym 5 times a week you'll be good to go
Side note get labs done. For a long time I struggled to lose weight well turns out I have abnormal chronically high cortisol which explained the binging episodes I experienced during dieting
I still don't know how I feel about the animated mouth. Content is great still!
What’s wrong with Kale?
I only do the overnight fasting. I get to hangry
3:44 no kale 😆
A calorie is not a calorie
And more importantly it is how a particular food affects the fat storing hormone insulin.
Once fuel or fat has been stored the body will not use stored fat it goes for the immediate fuel source and leaves the stored fat for when there is no food,
But that never happens.
Lose fat :
fast 16 hours do not eat cakes cookies or candies, soft drinks or donuts pizza tortillas etc. eat Whole Foods like eggs, vegetables
Meats,chicken,fish cheese,nuts
and berries. Once the weight comes off eat potatoes and rice on occasion. Cakes once a year?
I thought it was common knowledge, that they go hand in hand. Kind of the point, fast give you less time to eat.
Can easily put weight on i have done IF for 10 years, can lose weight, maintain and add weight when doing IF. Eg now its Xmas will add a stone even though doing IF
Both of them go together with workouts, but to be honest how can you use a 10hrs window of fasting lf IF to be considered good you neeed around 16hrs and the best part is more than that.
Dpnt get me wrong, IF is not a miracle, but if u integrate to your routine wil be awesome.
🎉
I intermittently fast but not because I try too. I just forget about food so often find I haven't eaten in like 10 or 12 hours and then I'll start munching. I've never been heavier than 150lbs in my life as a 27 year old, 5"10 dude.
What about new research that suggest IF causes heart problems ? Disappointing to hear
Duh. What about other benefits of fasting?
I have been doing intermittent fasting from 1 month and I didn't lose weight btt I am suffering from severe acidity and blotting
I don't know should I stop this routine or not
I think sounds weird that when I start to have dinner after 8 pm my digestive system works very properly 😐😐😐😐😐
It's not one size fits all you have to find what works for you
Dude I’ve always see people talking about intermittent fasting as an strategy to achieve caloric deficit itself, basically using the window in which you’re not hungry as a way to not eat calories when you are not needing. I really don’t understand this controversy
I'd rather be consciously trying to lose weight than consciously trying to stuff my face all day (and night), shopping, pooping, cooking, driving around all day just to watch it steam away in seconds.
I do both for double the results
3:43 "No kale" why not? 🤷♂️
Fasting still needs counting calories. I can pig out and eat over 20k k/cal in one meal 😢
If you don’t “drink” calories, I’d imagine it’s still gonna be touch to eat lots of calories in a sitting
- check YT 10k challenges
Did you drink a bottle of oil or something mate
that's crazy
Fasting is a form of counting calories
After being in an accident and spending 2.5 months in a hospital, I ended up losing 40lbs. My weight has been slowly increasing ever since. For the last year, I've been on the OMAD diet (No Workout). l am still gaining weight although at a slow rate than before. Doesn't seem to be working for me.
you should incorporate some cardio if your goal is weightloss
Ive cut weight for fights and only and i mean the only method that works for my body is eat from 10am to 3pm. Usually 2 nutritious meals. Boxing from 6pm to 7:30-8pm. Then fast. But when i eat the same amount of calories but spread throughout the day, like lets say a post workout meal, i lose 0 fat.
Actually, we don't eat calories or use calories as energy. Calories refer to heat energy generated from burning stuff and it's measured by a calorimeter - the human body does not burn food and we are not calorimeters. Not only that, but most of the protein we eat is not used as energy. So, even if you '' count calories '', it's extremely inaccurate even if it were a good way of predicting weight gain or weight loss. Also, one thing that is known to greatly influence fat loss or fat gain is insulin. If you tend to have high amounts of insulin everyday, it's going to be easy to gain weight and hard to lose weight. Glucose affects insulin much more than fat, which is why people generally do well on a diet with relatively low amounts of carbs. The other benefit of eating low amounts of carbs and more fat is not feeling hungry every 2-3 hours.
As a general rule, if you eat less (and '' eat less calories '' as you call it), yes, you're more likely to lose weight, but it's not guaranteed. Especially if you eat lots of carbs and even worse : lots of carbs mixed with lots of fat.
Oh, hello
regardless of CICO or fasting, after the holidays everyone can loose a few pounds lol
I'm no researcher but the fact that a 800gram difference or 17% difference is not statistically significant raises some questions for me.
How big was this study? How obese where these people?
No kale?
Disgusting.
@@PictureFit fair enough
Stop animating the mouth. Looks better without it
It's throwing me off
It’s hypnotizing me
kinda gets me distracted😂
the mouth animations are so cursed
Fasting group had more caloric deficit and less weight loss. Conclusion: it’s less effective.
Fasting is stupid.
I never going to do this again.
❤ Counting Calories ❤
it the otherway around for me, fasting works magic with me, i eat once every two days but the meal has all the protein and vitamins i need, and the whole time you feel energitic, light and full.
You intermittent fasting for fat loss, I intermittent fasting cuz I'm too lazy to make a proper breakfast
Jeff nippard is picture fit mark my words
Intermittent fasting or counting calories?
Chads in the comment section: both
Giga chads: neither
Hot girls: 24 hour fasts and cocaine
My dog: eats own shit
The way your mouth is moving is unsettling to me
But nothing beats being kidnapped for slavery in the mines. You will lose weight so fast. But jokes aside, fasting is easier for me than counting. With counting I still have cravings, with fasting the first half of the day not so much and I don't seem to compensate in the evening. Actually, eating in the morning makes me eat more over the day.
I prefer being chained to a wall with a rainwater drip just close enough to reach with my mouth. Lost weight and achieved enlightenment last time
Human body is weird, if you dont sleep for 3 days, the next time you sleep you'll 100% sleep for 3 days straight, but when it comes to eating even if you don't eat for 3 days, just eat one meal and you'll be fine like normal and you dont even need to compensate for the 3 days of meal that you've missed
First 🎉
Sorry but this is BS! In Saudi Arabia during Ramadan almost all people gain weight 😂
i dont need anything of these, just eat when you are out of energy and you will lose weight. Dont listen to hunger, but to your energy level
Ok. Stop with the mouth animations. It's creepy
