FILM DESCRIPTION:
Accompanied by their children (Dana Barron, Anthony Michael Hall), Clark Griswold (Chevy Chase) and his wife, Ellen (Beverly D'Angelo), are driving from Illinois to a California amusement park. As Clark increasingly fixates on a beautiful woman driving a sports car, the Griswolds deal with car problems and the death of a family member. They reach Los Angeles, but, when Clark worries that the trip is being derailed again, he acts impulsively to get his family to the park.

Walley saves The Griswald family from getting arrested. It’s not Clark’s fault that he trespassed the theme park, he was just excited about seeing it! Walley definitely understands why Clark wanted to go when they had the talk
“QUIET!” The way Eddie Bracken played that role and delivered that line was just perfect! 🤣👍
This film is so well done, Roy Walley was dressed like Walt Disney and had his mustache too. It’s also worth noting that Ellen says “We watch your program all the time” which means he had a weekly television program like Walt Disney’s “Disneyland” TV series that came out in the 50’s to hype up the creation of Disneyland the amusement park. That program then turned into “Walt Disney’s World of Color” and then finally “The Wonderful World of Disney” which still runs to this day on ABC.
I remember watching reruns of that as a kid.

I do, my grandparents taught me about the 70s and 80s
I think my favorite Chevy Chase movie is probably "Modern Problems" - the one where he gets doused in toxic waste and then gets powers. Not one of his more well-known films, but my parents had it on VHS and I watched it all the time.

If I had to do an epilogue, on the return trip to Chicago, the family stops at the place where the dog was tied off to the rear, and just when they’re about to get back into the car, a mangy dog crawls out of the bushes. Everyone is surprised, even happy, when Clark asks, “Hey, remember us?” At which point the dog launches itself at Clark’s family jewels. Cue song, run credits.

The original version of this in the short story in Lampoon magazine actually had Clark try to kill Walt Disney and Walt is shot twice in the leg. With the ending implying Clark will go to prison for the next few decades and the Family leaving California on an airplane to return home.
