Marshall I have a Seiko I would like for you to service. It’s a 4006 bell matic bought in 1969 in Japan as a gift to me from my brother. It is running and all original except for the crystal replaced in the 70’s.
I’m 80 yrs old and want to get it serviced so I can give it to one of my sons or grandson. This is special watch for me and I don’t want to send to Seiko since I’ve seen only bad reviews. You’re one of the best craftsmen I’ve seen on CZcams and really want you to service the watch.
My uncles own a watch shop and work with a watchmaker to do stuff like this. Might be an option for you. I think they do mail in repairs.

My fiancee noticed the MTG Mat a few months ago so looked in to it he used to be an announcer for tournaments

Haven't owned a watch in years, nor do I have any interest in watches. But yet, I find these videos fascinating!
I want to thank you Marshall. Because of your calm, collected, and thorough videos, I decided that this indeed can be done by even me. You inspired me to venture into the world of horology, and in the wee hours of this morning my first all original build was born. It has a Seiko NH36A heart beating inside a 40mm Sub style stainless steel case. With parts ordered from eBay, and your "anyone can do it" inspiration I now have a nice watch that is all my own. Shut Up and Play the Hits is one of my absolute favourite films, and the voiceover ofJames nervously saying to the crowd "I hope it's OK, I'm wearing- I'm wearing my dad's watch" right before the band launches into their last song has always stuck with me, so when I heard you say "James Murphy" my immediate thought was "wait, surely not *that* James Murphy?", and then when you confirmed, I could barely believe it. Hearing the full backstory of the watch makes me want to see the movie again.

What I love about watch repair and servicing is the fact the watch may look dishevled and dirty on the outside as old as it may be, but when you open it up it looks as clean and new as the day it was made!

Ashton overhauled my Dad's (Canadian) WW ll Rolex Sky-Rocket last Fall. During the winter, I also had him overhaul my Grandfather's 1928 Longines.

Trivia ..... James Bond wore a Rolex Oyster Perpetual first mentioned in Live and Let Die published in 1954 so this is exactly what Ian Fleming had in mind when he gave his character a high quality watch. Great video, great work :)

I can honestly say I don’t think I could ever be comfortable with what seems to be natural to you. I would love to see you make a video on how to find a vintage watch on eBay or elsewhere. You have enough knowledge on the subject but it would be awesome to have some insight on finding a vintage piece worth restoring. Whale blubber was used for a LOT of things. The fact that it trickled down to creating a tiny watch is an amazing example of hunting, human endurance, and ingenuity.

I like how this guy is telling in the beginning that we can probably do the same work as well, and then he is bringing 20 different unique tools to work on the watch and 10 more rare components that are obsolete&expensive&hard to find and he had to buy few donor parts to get them.

I remember watching like just last year when such a rebuild would have been a Herculean task for you (not that it wasn't now) and now I see this video where you just breezed through all the super hard repairs. Hair spring fixing, balance staff replacement, jewel replacements, shock absorber replacements. Insane work Marshall. I am in awe at your skill right now.

Fantastic video. My dad was a self taught watchmaker like you. Sadly passed away now. He had this exact watch. On fully retiring from.a major watch manufacturer, he disposed of all his tools and the beautiful watch. Deeply saddening

Like you, I noticed that something was wrong with the balance wheel as you were opening it and suspected a broken pivot. Oh dear, I thought that's going to be tricky. Then I saw bits of a jewel fall out. Oh dear again, but each obstacle you smoothly and carefully get over. You amaze me.

Hello Marshal, you have a fantastic channel and frankly your underlying enthusiasm in each video makes the channel. Two questions: Do you ever discuss the amount of time invested into each restoration or do you feel that takes away from the hobby. And, did you replace the seal common to the crown stem on this restoration?
From watching you and Nekkid Watchmaker and others it’s finally clicking in my mind and now I can name all the parts in a standard automatic watch like a Seiko or a Rolex. Thank you, I didn’t think I would ever be able to ever learn how a watch works let alone name all the parts. It’s actually fun to watch silent videos and name all the parts the watch maker removes and installs. I think I wan’t to start piecing together tools and an ultrasonic cleaner to work on my Bruce Lee watch and maybe make a hobby out of it. I honestly did not think I would ever figure out watches but people like you made it happen. Thank you.

I have an almost identical watch (1953 oyster perpetual) that belonged to my grandpa who bought it overseas while on leave right after the Korean war, and it's amazing to see you work on something almost identical so I can essentially look inside my own, thank you!
