Groove and Feel are the most important elements of music for me. It’s the foundation, and if it’s not right, nothing else matters.
Rhythm is more than just timing…it’s also texture. What kind of story does this groove tell? Is it dense and frenetic? Or wide open? Does it sound distant and murky, or in your face and claustrophobic? The sound telegraphs the meaning…it’s part of the musical story.
In this weeks video I’ll show you how I create evocative rhythms that set the stage for inspired writing and improvisation.

I used a lot of Soundtoys plug-ins in this video. I like them a lot: www.soundtoys.com
Also, the Waves Eddie Kramer Tape plug-in is pretty great for making things darker and crunchier: www.waves.com/...

I never intentionally thought of using ambient pads as starting points for song ideas, that's a great approach and might help a lot with my creativity process.
I've always created pads when noodling and practicing, but somehow never thought of using it on recordings!
Thanks, Dan! Great video, the song is looking good!
