    I have a trans boyfriend and I knew him before he started his transition and i dated him before he came out, and since he came out, I've basically been watching channels like this and reading up on what I can do to make everything easier, more comfortable, and less dysphoric for him, so thanks for shedding some much needed light.
    Edit: people are praising me for being an amazing partner. I'm not. I'm being a decent person and accepting my boyfriend for who he always was. I may have fallen in love with someone who I thought was female, but it wasn't the body parts I fell in love with. It was him I fell in love with.

      Honestly, I just want to be prepared in case one of my future children comes out as being transgender some day. For example, if I have a little girl who one day realizes that she's actually a boy trapped in a girl's body, in my eyes she'll still be my little girl while I'm adjusting to the transition, but I'll still support her and help her be the boy she is trying to be on the outside. I don't want to make any mistakes if any of my future children come out to me as being transgender, and I know I've probably made some mistakes with a friend who might be transgender. He might also like dressing up in drag, but he's not entirely sure himself since he hasn't even come out to his family about it yet.

      @@wormonstring5381 I don't have any kids yet, but someday I will. No matter where my future kids fall in the LGBT+ community, I want them to know that they're still loved by me. Even if they're just straight allies, I'll still love them. I feel bad for everyone in the LGBT+ community who has been disowned by their families because of their sexual orientation and/or their gender identities, and you're right, the world does need more people like me. If more people were more open-minded and more willing to love their children unconditionally then the world would be a better place.

    I’m adopted and people always ask me what my “real name” is and I’m like “it’s Mia” and they’re like “yea but what was it before?” And my adoption in general is very emotional for me to think about let alone talk about because it just reminds me that I may never see my birth family again and idk if they’re even alive and that’s just a lot to be asked and I don’t like it at all. My real name is Mia and it doesn’t really matter what my birth name was because it’s the only thing my birth mom could give me and it’s now my middle name and it’s just a very personal thing that has a lot of emotions tied to it. The only person who has ever called me it is my birth mom and so that is the only person that I would allow to call me that. I know it’s not the same thing as transitioning and choosing your new name or anything but I get it in the sense that the name we have now IS our real name and I know people r just curious because they want to understand and it’s not to be mean but something so personal that is attached to trauma shouldn’t just be asked by strangers.

    • @brucenatelee
      @brucenatelee Před 3 lety +192

      I have controversial opinions, but the "real name" thing sounds dumb. People change their name all the time. I understand wondering what their "old name" is or something, but "real name" comes off as denying who they are. Like that Sense8 mom who wanted to force her into detransition and call her by her birth name. Force isn't gonna do any good for anybody. Everything has to be a personal choice.

    • @layla3417

      I was adopted too! I’ve never met my birth parents before, I was put into and “orphanage” ig? Almost right after I was born and I stayed there for about a year and a half until I was adopted. No one would’ve guessed I was adopted until you compared me to my parents. I’m Asian, while both my parents are Caucasian. I kind of understand where your coming from, it’s just not that emotional, more so uncomfortable considering I never had much of an emotional attachment to my brith parents. A lot of the time when I meet new people and tell them that I’m adopted they’d ask things like, “Oh, what’s it like being adopted?” And I *really* don’t understand the point in that question? Its the same as if my adoptive parents gave birth to me. They took care of me for 14 years, possibly even better than my birth parents ever could have.The only difference is that we’re not tied by blood. It may be different for you though, since you’ve met your birth parents?

      @jibrijibri4548 Před 4 lety +253

      Michael I’m trans and I disagree with Samantha on this. It’s okay to ask someone about these things if you’re going to date them. As the person’s partner or potential partner you have a right to know what the person’s genitals are, or whether they’re planning to get bottom surgery. The reason nobody has to ask a cis person those questions is because what’s down there is obvious, but for trans people it’s not obvious, so it’s okay to ask. I think it’s important to ask them respectfully, but there’s nothing inherently wrong with it, especially when you’re going to be intimate with this person.

    Obviously "don't ask people about their sex life" is my disclaimer but you would be amazed how many people think discussing genitalia is normal.
    I'm generally not very comfortable talking about that stuff unless I'm dating said person which for most people is like a prerequisite to...y'know, doing the do so even having just friends ask me stuff like what I prefer or am into is like "why tf would you ask?"
    The most innocent question I can think of is "If you haven't done it with a guy, how do you know you're bi?" which...uh...for the same reason a straight guy knows he likes women even if he's a virgin?

    So accurate! I'm trans as well, and while I don't necessarily get offended when people ask these questions, it is kind of weird to ask. I answer them purely because if someone doesn't answer the questions of people who are trying to be informed how do we, as trans people, expect people to understand what we're going through? Like, the surgeries are scary and the results vary person to person. I think some people are curious so they look to trans people to inform them... which honestly, I give them credit for actually asking instead of assuming or just going through life ignorant about it. While the questions are weird, I try to make my answers not be about me or my specific thoughts and choices, but about trans people as a whole generically, because every trans person is different and that needs to be made clear.

      @KStar If everyone went by your logic, no one would post answers online anyway because no trans person should need to answer these questions and just dismiss them off onto someone else, so there would be no answers there either. It would make it a closed secret and no one would even be able to empathize with the trans experience. Being dismissive only makes trans people out to be uncaring. If trans people expect respect and understanding, they need to be willing to explain their experience.

    • @Annemoontje
      @Annemoontje Před 3 lety

      I mean, you're going to have these questions in your mind. And there is this process where you just want to understand it all to the best of your abilities. Sometimes to avoid mistakes, sometimes because it's something you just know so much less about and that makes it interesting on its own. It's great that there's all these video's on youtube. I can still learn more about the topic and I don't have to bother my trans friends with it too much. It honestly does help to put everything in more perspective and have more empathy for the situation in my experience :) In a weird way the whole JK Rowling also 'helped' with that, because it sort of highlighted the level of hate some people have. Like, seriously, I knew that some people are just cunts, but that it could be THAT BAD, and THAT persistent.. I honestly wouldn't have grasped the scale of that. It's completely weird to me to react that way. But I get the defensiveness some friends get much more now, because seriously, that's some heavy stuff.

    Yeah, those kind of questions aren't because of the quarantine - they're solely because we're trans ... Lol! If I had been given a choice, I would have chosen to be a cis female so I wouldn't have to put up with all the crap that comes with being trans! I would so much rather have to put up with periods and pregnancy scares than have to deal trying to relieve my dysphoria.
    Whenever someone asks me about my transness, I start talking about my dysphoria. I always get one of two reactions depending on whether the person is trans and trying to police me or not and the questioning stops. The two reactions are "Yeah, me too" or "Holy crap!" Much love and great video! 😚💋❤💃💞

I don’t think you were the person I asked but I want to apologize here anyway in case the CZcamsr sees and just I did something that someone shouldn’t have done that was in this video. So just, one more time, I’m really really sorry

      And I’m really sorry if I invalidated anyone who doesn’t want surgery and such. You are still you no matter what you look like or the lengths you go to to stop having dysphoria. I just knew that particular person got surgery and had no idea there were different types! Sorry if I worded anything bad and I’ll stop asking intrusive questions try to be better in the future. Also if you’re reading this you’re beautiful and I hope your voice gets better

      I'd advise not to over do the apology like that. Just correct and move on. Making a big deal is what transpeople are usually trying to avoid.
