The floor looks amazing! The tiler is a total pro... as is the painter. What I love about France is that they encourage and train people in the different trades. My brother in law is a painter in France, his son--my nephew--is a boulanger, and my husband was a chef. They actively keep these arts alive by training their people at an early age, as they recognize the value these trades ad to society.
This gentleman is truly a master of his craft. I once dated someone back in the 1980s who specialized in cutting granite for commercial buildings, and let me tell you, it's a skill that takes years to truly master.
And granite is much harder to work with. It registers ~ 6-7 on the Mohs scale; while marble ~ 3.
I find it incredible, comforting and beautiful that in this day and age some things are still better down by a person working with their hands, kneeling down no less. Cheers to that gorgeous bathroom and Monsieur tiler.

I am with Anna in loving the matte look over the glossy. The matte feels very classic. I wonder if you could get a riser to fit under the door that matches the tile. We have them in a few places where the floor is thicker and it helps with the tripping dangers of an abrupt transition.
I was just thinking a riser would be perfect! A wood one could work too maybe?

I agree that a matte finish would be more aesthetically pleasing and more period correct. With a gloss finish, it would scream 1980’s or 1990’s. (Had to add the 19 because of the age of the chateau. lol)

My family owned a Tile Company that my grandfather started in the 1950s. Several generations of the men in my family have been tile setters. Brothers, cousins, uncles. It’s great watching such a talented person install such artwork!!

I have watched YTs who decorate in beige and browns and greys or really dark colors and it always depresses me. I love your choices as I feel they are light and bright and happy and the tile choice is wonderful. 🥰❤👍

The bathroom floor is beyond amazing, and Anna you're right, it does look like it's been there before. The shower is gorgeous too! So much work laying down a tile floor. Now I have a better appreciation for all of the work that goes into it. Will you have an unveiling when all three rooms are completed?

All my life, I'm 73 I wanted to live in a house with the black and white tiles, we had them when I was a small child in England in a very old house, they are timeless and beautiful.

Thank you, Philipp, for using the botanical name to identify your plants. It's the only real way to let people know what you have - common names very too widely, even within one country. And it's so true, Cornus alba siberica is gorgeous in the fall and winter!!!
What a wonderful looking floor. Timeless in it's simple design.
The tiler is truly a craftsman. Closest I ever got to someone with his skill was years ago while working at a church, I watched a friends father, who was a stone cutter, put in a new alter area for the church. Watching this tiler cut, then dry fit all the pieces before laying them, reminded me of the same process the stone cutter used.

We LOVE, LOVE, LOVE IT. Shine magnifys the beautiful MARBLE PATTERN OF THE TILES. MARBLE floor tiles are only beautiful if finished in high GLOSS sealer. Italian villas in Tuscany are finished with a BRILLIANT SHINE and it can only be described as SPECTACULAR. The cost was worth every euro.

I’m more impressed with the skills of master tradesmen (builders, carpenters, electricians, tile setters, stone masons, woodworkers) than any scholarly Ph D. Craftsman are technical experts and artists, now that’s skill to be admired. ❤ The tile is perfection. Beautiful ❤

I've seen a rise in this type of tiling design recently. But this one is fitting for the chateau. I found it interesting that you wanted to break up the space so the rooms look separate from each other. Here in the US, with the symmetrical door placement, most people would opt to try to make one room flow into the other to feel like one cohesive design when you open both doors. I think the design walkthroughs that some of the viewers mocked up for you emulated that. I love that you choose a tile to preserve the historical aspect of the chateau though. Im sure this will be a beautiful suite when its all done. I'm excited to see the other elements. This was fun to watch!
They could always find rectangular long carpets with black and white diamond squares on them. That might look a little cheesy though (too 60's actually). Perhaps white carpets at either end beyond each doorway ...depending on which way the bathroom doors swing.

IIt is always worth it to hire real professionals to do detail. Such talent.
I told them to not allow this guy to do this "tiling". It's horror. The cabin walls are horrible. Uneven gaps, tiles sticking out left and right, cuts had to be longer and longer on the sides because of this. The floor? Have you guys seen a proper floor? What he is doing is proper lazy, unprofessional work. The guy doesn't care about gaps, level or anything. That's why he doesn't use proper tools. I literally don't understand how can anything be ok with a bad work. If you take your time and look at how the shower cabin's walls look like.. At 7:51 tiles sticking out, uneven gaps.. Seriously..
