My process of molding and casting a clay sculpture without a vacuum chamber or a pressure pot. There are multiple ways of molding and casting, this method was best suited for my needs, and doesn't require special casting equipment. Thank you
thank you , i was looking for a way to save my statue ( prime 1's bat who laughs )and it didnt occur to me to glaze the mold before i actually cast it . this way the actual statue is in storage and the copy is out in the world.
Someone else asked the same thing? I can't seem to find it. I had the same question and was looking for the answer. I see someone else refers to it as a layer of resin.
@@brandonc272 I'm applying a first layer of resin with the brush to make sure all the fine details are covered and I don't get tiny air bubbles on the surface of the cast.
Crafty Art. Great work and really nice music. Who is the artists?
I cut the fists in the beginning because their shape has many irregularities that could be problematic when casting. Air can get trapped in high points like the knuckles or tips of the fingers, and ruin the cast. I couldn't vent them properly so I decided to cast them separately to have more control.
Crafty Art if the face/head has a lot of details, like earlobes and nostrils and eyelids, should the head be molded/casted separately as well?
@@MsPoliteRants Not necessarily, but it depends. If the face has an open mouth you can get a mold lock, and you may not be able to pull the cast from the mold. I had made a human anatomy model and have cast it in one piece just fine.
Crafty Art oh okay. Thank you that’s very helpful :)
What do you do when the hands make some sort of an O shape like they are holding something or doing the OK/666 sign or whatever. Would you make a two part mold for something that small? And how do you cut them of if you have a skeleton of wire inside of it?
Crafty Art what clay you use

@/;;;/-- Hi. You can mail me at craftyart2017@gmail.com and let me know what you'd be interested in
Prebrushing plastic into the molds before joining and pouring is a really good idea. It reduces the chances of air bubbles.
I will have to give that a try.
Ya I noticed that..what material did he use?..
Best wishes on your tutorial series and projects from Distortions!
That is pure black magic what you have done there
I just wanted to say thanks for taking the time to post how too's on here and tell you its very appreciated...its very helpful to see how other people do stuff and nomatter how long I've been doing it I can never learn enough or see enough of other people's processes to add into my own ways of doing it so thanks again ...cheers🍻
Makes me all melancholic..reminds me of good old times when I was studying at secondary school of applied art (ceramic department) and we were making forms like these all the time (just not a figure shaped:))
July 3, 2019---Thank you for an interesting & educational video. Learned I don't have to use Lego's as a form, especially when the form is an odd ball shape such as your figure. Also, remember to add pour vents to the subject so the resin reaches thru out the mold. And will give a try in coating the mold pieces with resin before pouring. I'm working in 1/35th scale and made several different wagons used by kids. Tried using a syringe to inject the resin into the one piece molds, but when removing them, they broke on me. And yes, I did use mold release on the molds before hand. Suggestions?
Just what i need for an upcoming project, thanks.
I think this is the best method I’ve ever seen for making a mild and casting
This video will really come in handy as I'm currently in the middle of sculpting my very first statue and wanted to make a mold and cast it. Thank you for sharing this
How’d it go?
This is awesome thanks for sharing. I've always have problems with bubbles when casting.
I've been looking for a video for so long that shows it very simply.thank you this is the best video I've found.you just show it exactly right.thank you👍🏾😊
Nice job and good demostration, I will wait for more projects soon
Your work is incredible! Blown away by the talent!
Brilliant video, thanks so much
Hopefull you will make many more sculpting and molding figures videos like this. I really love to watching your work , great job man !! 🤜🏻🤜🏻🤜🏻
Thanks for sharing... I'm motivated to try my first attempt at this craft...
Superb video. So informative. Thanks for posting it.
It answers a lot of questions in my mind... Molding, it is so interresting, thanks!
Wow this is amazing, thank you for sharing this tutorial, i may now able to mold my sculptures as well, may you have many more videos to come.👍
thanks for sharing your knowledge
Belo trabalho, magnífico!!!
I do it a similar way except I put two small super strong rare earth magnets in the feet and suspend the figure upside down from a piece of flat metal then pour the molding compound. It eliminates a lot of time and extra work.
I love how “crafty” you got (see the pun? 😂) with making your own casting chamber. I am still trying to figure out what was the purpose of the two blue strings that went from wrist to hip? Also, how did you go about shaving off the excess raisins that sipped thru?
The blue wires are vents that will allow the air in the arms to escape when pouring the resin. Because the model will be head upside down when the resin is poured, the air would get trapped in the arms if not for those blue wires. As for the excess at the seamline just use a cutter, it's easily removable.
@@CraftyArt Thank you for this explanation
Venting
please post a video on how you sculpted this!
Great work & gratefully thankiu for that bro 👍👍
This video is super satisfying
Fantastic video! Thank you for this and inspiring me to have a go!
Wow! That's very impressive! Nice😎👍
Absolutely love this!!!
This reminds me of the sculptures that are used as bases for the SHF Shinkocchou Seihou figures.
Using foam to support the molding clay is a great idea! I was using aluminum foil and found it tricky to recycle all my clay from it (something like this would have made cleanup a lot faster)
That is just awesome! Thanks for sharing :)
so satisfying to watch
Details are fascinating 👏🏼
beautifully done!
Beautiful stuff! Subbed already!
Thanks for this video.
This was fascinating
LA TECHNIQUE ET MAGNIFIQUE
very good,

A great mold thanks... Real y need it
Great work!
👍🏾
I think I’d like to try my hand at this one day
Keep the work man :)
That was awesome!!$$ i subbed!!$
Great music too! Thank you for that
perfect man, good job
amazing, fantastic work
This is very useful thank you so much, my channel is new so im so glad
Gran trabajo!
very helpful thanks man
Great work. Was wondering what the liquid was that you used to make the moulds. /? Thanks in advance
Thank you! I used RTV Silicone from the brand Zhermack
I want to see a tutorial on how to make a cast of something like an old retro computer case (Amiga to be exact) so I can make a custom one cast in transparent color resin. The case is so thin so I realize I need to fill it with clay and do a two part mold for both the top case and the bottom, but what silicon is the best so it will not sag or bend when I am casting with resin? I have searched for an example of something like this. The closest I've found is a plastic car body, but that is nowhere as large as a computer case.
excellent video!
👏👏👏lindo trabalho, show 🇧🇷
Thanks. I am looking into monster clay for creating temporary sculptures to cast. I've used plastelline with super sculpey, but wasn't sure if it could work with monster clay.
Amazing video!
What kind of clay are you using when you go around the spiderman sculpture?
Thank you! It's a very soft plastelline.
@@CraftyArt no problem :)
Thanks for the answer :D, keep on with the fantastic work!
Awesome video! Working on making a resin cast myself! May I ask what the process was before pouring the resin? You appeared to be brushing something into the negative? Was that mold release or resin?
Really creative. I subscribed this channel
Hey Crafty, amazing !
Can i get same result pouring some pewter using the proper Rubber for molds and have a decent result ?
Thanks !
at 9:50 there is a very confusing optical illusion... instead of it looking like spidey is face-down in the mold, it looks like he's turned at a different angle... my eyes hurt after seeing that lmao
I noticed that immediately. I couldn't see it any other way.
10:28
OMG it makes me dizzy
Makes my head feel wierd
U
Oh my bad, I already see the materials in your description. Thank you so much.
Doing this for the first time now with a relative complex statue. This video helps a lot ty ;)
Amazing! How were you able to smoothen your sculpt like that?
Thanks! I used small folded paper sheets dipped in turpentine and did some micro sanding.
Cool, thank you.
Thank you
will the rubber easily remove from the clay or do you apply mold release onto the clay?
Hello! thanx for a nice video! I wonder, if my sculpture is a monster with open mouth and lots of teeths, Should I split the molds in more parts or how do you do it? Im pretty stuck with this :(
Sus aportes son geniales gracias
Hi im kinda new to this. Just want to ask if the brown clay baked? If not how did you mange to not mix it with the black clay? Is there a way for the brown clay to not be deformed while your youre moving it around and doing the mold? Or are you just being very careful
Great video and technique too🥰
It is great and great I am loved by these things and I hope to check them out in the future 💓
What type of clay was used for the halfing wall? Also what are the blue paper clips off the arms for?
Hell of a lot of clay work! but superb video. Thanks for sharing
I know I am late but wow this was great for me because I have always wanted to do this and I was wondering how do you get the base figure to begin with?
Amazing thanks!
You're doing a great job. Thanks for sharing.
But I have one question: why do you separate the hands from the rest of the body?
Amazing. Great video. Thanks for share 👍
more more more more absolutely love it !!!!
wow thankyou
Can we change with simple tool for that silicone release spray?
What do you use around the mold
What you wrapped in a circle before you poured the silicone inside
Question, I am working with alien clay, and you can't permanent firm it like you can't monster clay too, what do you suggest to do when I put plasticine around the figure to avoid plasticine to dent the figure?
Hey mate! Great video. Thanks to your content I was able to reproduce 15 sculptures for an artistic project. I was wondering, once you got the hands in resin, did you glue them to the wrist? Or did you make a hole in the wrist so that the insert of the hand (the stick) would go inside? Thanks!
So freaking cool
Very nice craft art🤟
Brutal 🖤
Great video 🙌
If I want too make something like this what do I need too make moulds do you have a list off stuff too make models thks
Can you tell us the name of the brand of the soft plasteline u used for the two part mold? I don't believe there is "no name" or brand when you got it.
Hi, could you say me please why you didn't make the hands in same time that the body ?
Super cool!!! Great like!!!!
Very cool indeed.
This is amazing work! Thank you for sharing! Sorry to bother but can you tell me what's the name of the Tool you're using in minute 3:48?
Thank you. You mean 3:58? That is a shaping tool.
Awesome! What grade of Monster Clay did you use (soft, medium, or hard)? Did you use anything on the sculpture's surface to harden it? Also, what are the two blue straws you made from its hands to its thighs for? Thank you in advance
I've used medium grade. I think I left the sculpture in the freezer to harden it a bit. The purpose of the blue straws is to let air come out from the hands when I will pour resin into the mold.
Wow, this is very cool seeing the process.
Lindo trabalho parabéns.👏👏👏
