Are you going to see Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes?
Awesome video!
Eventually!
Monday, I plan to, after I finish War, which I started to watch the reboot trilogy.
Not gonna lie, I have been enjoying Rise and Dawn a lot as I was told as a recommendation.
Hard pass, dawn and war hit their peak so kingdom is a no show
Hey watch rise and dawn if u haven’t dawn is by far the best out of the trilogy in my opinion
I hope someday Doug does a Planet of the Apes month covering the classics from the '70s, the animated show, and the reboot trilogy. I know he did the 2001 version a few years back, so he wouldn't have to go through that again lol.
Ape-ril.
@@thecunninlynguist You're a genius!
April 2025 would have enough weeks to cover the classics from Planet of the Apes to Battle for the Planet of the Apes.
Monkey Month?
At most, he would cover the original franchise in the whole month. So unless he does a few Planet of the Apes reviews, I doubt he could cover all nine films. In a month.
I can't believe he has not yet seen Rise and Dawn. How does that happen? I honestly I think he would have liked War even more had he watched those two first.
Yes Doug definitely has to watch those. I think he was put off by the Tim Burton one but trust me it's way better than that.
Agreed, other than lord of the rings it’s easily my favorite trilogy! Seeing Caesars journey from the beginning to the end of his life was beautifully told.
Rise sucks, little bro. Stop hyping it up. Its not worth.
He's missing out man,
Dawn is such a great film, without the context of the previous movies,
It's hard for him to really give his initial thoughts on the current ones
@christianschmidt8476 It's the movie that started the CG ape subseries. Why you crying?
You’ve definitely gotta see the entirety of the last trilogy
Doug. You HAVE to watch the newer trilogy this movie continues from. For being almost/over a decade old, the effects and the story have aged fantastically.
Darn you haven’t seen Rise or Dawn yet?! Those are incredible! Highly recommended!
Tbh I haven't either. I've seen the OG and the shitty tim burton remake lol 😂😂
@@kdusel1991 then your homework this weekend is go watch the 3 leading up to this one 😂 their worth the time
@@kdusel1991gotta see rise and especially Dawn
@@kdusel1991 rise is a decent first movie, but dawn is significantly better. Better in every way, honestly.
@@melindamercier6811 I agree.
Brother, you are missing out not seeing rise or especially dawn!
Very true.
I really enjoyed the film. The final act did feel rushed but still a solid time. The next movie definitely will answer a lot of these unanswered questions we have. I’m just hoping a certain character is alive still. If they bring him back somehow then this can go even deeper conversation about Ceasar’s old ways. Even if that character is dead as long as we have his books then we can further explore that side of the story.
Who would have thought that returning to Monke could be the thing that cinema needs now?
Soooo true.
It’s insane
@@chasehedges6775 return to planet of monke
Remember the year of Pinnochio?
@@briana8088 a very dark year indeed. Luckily we got at least one really good Pinocchio movie out of it
If I had to rank these movies from worst to best, this is how I would probably do it, though I do change my mind from time to time and my choices might be divisive.
1) War
2) Dawn
3) Original
4) Rise
5) Kingdom
6) Escape
7) Conquest
8) Beneath
9) Battle
10) Burton Remake
I love when Doug and his brother talk about how they love a new film, usually you see them hating or saying a film or a show was just fine or could’ve been better so when you see them praising something you know you’re in for a treat
Sooooo true. 💯💯
@@chasehedges6775 I agree!
PLEASE watch the first two! I haven’t seen War yet, but Dawn was SO good!
Back after watching War. I do not cry over movies and that movie actually freakin’ did it to me. Can’t wait to see Kingdom!
Quite true.
Doug, I think it's time for you to watch and review the reboot trilogy of the "Planet Of The Apes".
OMFG Rise , Dawn , and War are so good definitely worth the watch one of my favorite trilogies
I would have loved it if someone woudl have said the girl 'Humans already got their oportunity, and they blew it. It's our turn now."
I mean. They pretty much do. Just not with those exact words.
Mae - “It is not yours”
Proximus - “It is now
I would have personally loved more if somebody, most likely Noa, said something along the lines of "Humans. Apes. Both are more alike than they want to admit. Both wanting to be at the top. Not caring about who they have to trample to get there"
Watched it yesterday. It was an enjoyable moment, and I had fun realizing that Noa is played by the same actor who plays the pyromaniac bully in IT Chapter 1. Good photography, great music, genuinely curious to see where they are going with this. But I would love to see a take where two colonies, one of apes and another of humans, try to live in harmony and peace, banding together against a common threat to protect what they hold dear. That would be kind of nice :)
The only underwater fight I actually liked was the one in Thunderball. I mean it's still slow and sluggish, but they make up for it with how brutal and gory it gets because it's unexpected for a James Bond movie from the 60s.
10 apes movies and now the 4th movie in the reboot that is perfect
Dawn of the Planet of the Apes is one of my favorite movies, I’d say around the Top 30 best I’ve ever watched.
This looks pretty good too.
RIP Caesar :(
Thanks for the spoiler shitwipe
0:00 Coincidence? I think not!
The ending got me excited lol. Where is this franchise going
I'd like to see Noa and Mae become leaders within their species, and then have to deal with a human/ape conflict.
@@TheFatestPat that’s definitely where it’s going. Mae was very shady and I liked that. Humans gotta play dirty to get anywhere in this world.
I've literally had the exact same thought of two major movies this year having an ape tyrant as the villain
I personally really enjoyed it. Do I prefer the trilogy? Oh, no doubt. But is it a worthy entry? Absolutely, and those effects are damn near perfect. Curious to see if it’s able to move forward.
I like how Noa emphasizes using his brain over strength. He’s shown to not be a good fighter but proves how he’s personally evolved by outsmarting his enemies
Youd be surprised that since the trailer of Kingdom, i started seeing the reboot trilogy and ill admit, they were as fun as some folks said.
Rise was a good start, Dawn was amazing and i just gotta watch War and ill look forward on Kingdom.
Not required but i just like the fun of such, honestly. 😉
He went to rescue his clan, not for just revenge 😮
He straight up says he going bring them back. But I think people are so use of the "revenge" being a cliche in movies they assume that is the case.
I'm hoping the astronauts from Rise make an appearance in a future movie. This one hinted they might with all the space references in it. If they did it will probably be in the 3rd movie in this new trilogy. The second one will be something else. Though I can see the appearing in an after credits scene.
Wouldn't they be long dead by now since it's generations later? Unless they introduce time travel which...ugh...I hope not.
@@TAGibby Maybe they have been in hypersleep and have been frozen for centuries just drifting in space? The ship finds it's way back to Earth and they wake up to find the world they knew is gone. They could do an all-out remake of the original and the astronauts don't know they are on Earth but think it's an alien planet.
@@MasterMario548 True! I like that idea. Heck, that could be the premise of the trilogy that comes after this next trilogy if it ends up being a 9 movie saga.
This felt kinda like a remake of the original from 1968, but from an ape's point of view instead of a human's.
It's not a remake quit calling it that
Soooo true
@@SupportGamin2024 it's not a remake. It's a new story. The remake by Tim Burton sucked
How though? The original is about a modern human going to a world where intelligent apes rule and humans are mute.
@@SupportGamin2024i didn't say it was a remake, dipshit. I said it felt like a remake due to the protagonist finding out the truth about his world that has been buried for centuries.
It bothers me that Doug says underwater battles are boring-what about the submarine battles in “The Hunt for Red October” and “Das Boot”?It surprises me that Doug, son of a naval officer, isn’t impressed by underwater battles.
The real villain of this movie was Mae. She still never told Noa the truth about why she was in the bunker. Humans now have what they need to to possibly take back the planet and become dominant again.
Fr she was such a tool throughout the movie! I was hoping proximus would have won
I really needed them to give the eagles a role in the clan. They make this big thing out of them collecting the eggs to bond with their eagle and train and grow with them but we never see that explored. They are just a cool plot device and a symbol of growth for the main character. It just feels like their role was being played up to be something so important and they didn’t really go anywhere with it. The eagles are glorified pets at worst and a symbol of wisdom and maturity at best. They could have done so much more with it.
Also kinda weird how they were blinded and tied down which wouldn't point to strong bonds
Agreed. The final third felt like a let down. Just walked out of the theatre and everyone felt it
True. The finale was alright but felt meh.
Re: the third act, the first evil ape was the second in command of Proximus Caesar so it makes sense why they’d shift focus to him
Good movie. But i am disapointed DR.Zaius is still not in it.
I kinda missed details on Proximus, they should have shown one of his lessons where we actually see him learning about history.
I may be in the minority here looking at some comments but I REALLY didn't like the twist in the very end and the reveal about what Nova(May) was doing. This just reignites the conflicted feelings we have spent so many films exploring and I just don't see a way forward with these movies that either rehashes old ideas and themes or completely defies what the original story and previous trilogy were about. I hope I'm just being overly cynical and they truly are building to something spectacular, though.
I think I see your point about apes on horses chasing down humans and snagging them with lassos and nets. It's been done before, it was surprising and iconic the first time, but it loses the impact every time they do it again.
If the title's anything to go by, Doug found an idea for what to call his next COMMERCIALS! Special. What would they do in the next movie, have the apes start wearing clothes? Or introduce the underground-dwelling, nuclear-missile-worshipping mutants?
I wanna watch this with my wife. Good to know that you don't need to watch the previous ones, because she hasn't. Heck, now that I think about it, when the previous one came out we hadn't even met.
Oh, and there's no such thing of "devolution". If an organism is adapted to the environment, that's evolution. It's all evolution. It's either extinction or evolution.
Hey Doug, will you ever review Barnyard (2006)?
Also, you should do a new segment called “Credit to Fan Edits.”
Basically, you’ll take a look at fan edits of a scene from movie or show that either improves it or gives a new perspective on it.
I recommend you start with Star Wars fan edits. 😊
Why not use the sound clip "Monkey!"?
I will say while I enjoyed it, I found it hard to follow the story of this one. I came in having seen the original 5 movies (which are begging for nostalgia critic reviews btw) and the James Franco one. I was so confused why the gorillas were burning down and killing the other monkey's, the old movies stressed Apes don't kill apes.
Me and my wife also found it kind of dark but also hard to watch when an animal is being beaten or drowns. Like the gorilla, super bad guy, but seeing him drown was hard to watch. Seeing Noah and his father beaten was a bit disturbing. That said, the CG is amazingly done here. Doctor Strange's little eye ball thing eat your heart out. Overall I'd recommend it. I don't think you'd have to see any of the previous movies, but there are fun easter eggs if you do.
No joke when I saw Sweeney Todd on Broadway last year, William H. Macy was sitting right behind me. For the first show I ever saw on Broadway, that’s pretty amazing. What do you think?
Planet of the Apes is such a weird franchise, the original series was all over the place, from great to WTF did I just watch?
But then the reboot series is very consistent, they ignore everything but the lore of the original movie, and it is such a slow burn to get to that point, but you can see that is the end point of everything.
I saw it yesterday with family and haven’t seen any of them since the 2001 reboot. This was more enjoyable than I expected, and the main character was sympathetic and likeable indeed. While I did have a few overall questions by the end that maybe I missed some context for (when I stepped out to the bathroom!), I’m glad I saw it. Nice review!
Barney’s Big Surprise! - Nostalgia Critic
I love the tribe winning by singing
Vote For General Thade!
*monkey screeches*
"I'm so tired of apes throwing nets on humans" Wait there are more than just 3 friggin movies doing that? Tell us the secret Doug!
I think the final act is fine. I didnt forget the evil general. He was a general, not the evil mastermind. The death was ok. I mean Noah is smart, he outsmarted the gorilla. But the king death was epic
It's Lion King with Apes. Its still a good flick. I just see Noa is simba. Proimus is scar. Feels like it hits on the core beats but elaborates on motivations more.
I felt like dawn was also lion king with apes. Especially with how koba was defeated in the end and the whole koba corrupting caesars son and staging Caesars murder
7:34 they only did that in this movie, it’s the first time they’ve really done it in this reboot series
He starts spoiling out of nowhere around 5:00
7:18
Imagine if Roger Ebert lived to see the more Spider-Man films that came out since his comment
URS is amazing! Thanks For this
Also The Villain is pretty much an Evil Cesar
But where did all that water come from?
WHAT! YOU HAVE NOT SEEN THE OTHER TWO..... 😮 YOU HAVE TO IT'S AMAZING 🤩
Great film! Noah has an amazing setup for the future of the Franchise.
Well put. Really getting intrigued to check this out.
How can you not like this guy and the channel. Great channel
The next film needs to be horses rising up on the apes XD they mistreated us!
we need a nostalgia critic episode on the original trilogy it is definitely worth it
Really enjoyed this movie. It was the main movie that excited me enough to actually travel to a theater. Havent been in a theater since 2022.
Raka go shafted, if you know. You know.
Now I cant wait to see that Deadpool & Wolverine
Good not great. Nowhere near as good as the trilogy, especially after War was a masterpiece. The writing for this one is a mess
I made the mistake of watching the Mark Wahlberg version and have had no interest in the franchise since.
The second one will make up for all of that. Watch dawn of the planet of the apes
“Apes hunt humans. That… is wrong!” It’s not in the movie?! It was the coolest line in the trailer 😅
Its wild to think this is the lead up to the charlston heston version xD
I think the prequels are being called 'Ceasar's Trilogy'
💯. That works
Youre doing yourself a serious disservice by not watching the reboot trilogy! Dawn of the Planet of the Apes is one of my favorite movies, period! The story and characters are incredibly engaging and well developed! Koba is definitely one of the best antagonist of the century!
Ps: I do love how the trailers for Kingdom really didn't give the movie away. The trailers gave us part of the conflict, and we THOUGHT we were seeing the whole plot but it was really a lot different than the trailers
Like a lot of others are saying, you have to see the first two of this reboot. They're pretty awesome.
Well Caesar is gone so they have to focus on new characters.
There was time when apes even check into hotels with humans.
Apes hunt humans. That is wrong. I don't recall hearing that either.
Spice in the Planet of the Apes, they don't need an explanation, earth is just a desert planet now lol
Saw Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes with my older sister Jennifer for Mother’s Day
Worth the wait
It’s a worthy continuation of the beloved series although it’s not quite up there with the previous rebooted trilogy
It’s more of a slow-burner that really does let you sink into this world
A lot of questions the film provides revolve around legacy, survival, compatibility, and tribalism
With great historical figures there exists legacy but it can be properly remembered or easily twisted to use for gain
Should a species go back to being silent?, is it better to not tell us everything and shape history the way we want it to?, can two species live side by side?, maybe staying silent means staying safe, nothing is ever easy, no choice comes without risk
Noa is a great leading ape wanting his own clan back from being ruled, Mae serves as a good human as the first who can speak fully in over many generations, and Raka is a very insightful, wise orangutan
The film is so beautiful looking with the post-apocalyptic environments to the CGI motion capture of the apes themselves
The digital effects have come such a long way bringing them to life and showing their facial expressions showing their emotions
There’s plenty of small nods and callbacks to previous films yet this is still able to stand on its own
It genuinely feels like what the 1968 original accomplished back then
I was even surprised with the ending showing what director Wes Ball has in store for the future
Since the Moses story is finished who knows what else awaits for a franchise that’s endured for nearly 6 decades
Like the apes this series remains strong
I saw this right when it dropped. The beginning was really strong and had me invested in the characters and the story is was telling, then the third act came along and I felt a little disappointed. It could've been because it was 2am and I was noding off from working all day, but overall I didn't regret seeing it. I'll be seeing it again next week
I won't say I was disappointed because I really wasn't expecting this to be on the level of Dawn or War but I am underwhelmed.
I liked it but it was slow and a tad long and I feel it was too much of a Part One where Rise felt like a full story.
I've never been a big fan of the original and the Burton movie's terrible so this gets an easy 4th place for me in the Apes franchise behind Dawn, War and Rise.
But it's a 7/10, maybe after I've watched it a second time at home with subtitles I'll knock it up to an 8 but for now a safe 7/10 - Good start, hope for better with the sequel.
Doug, you gotta watch the other movies. Hell I'd love to see reviews of them!
Do Godzilla 2014 it's turning 10 years old this year
I hope next year, i hope you will focus on Matt Reeves Planet of the Apes trilogy. They make the Star Wars sequel trilogy, an already messy film series, look completely embarrassing.
Doug, how have you not seen Rise and dawn of the Planet of the Apes?! Dawn especially was the best blockbuster to come out that year.
Yeah that is really weird.
I would say it's not my favorite POTA movie, but it's a good one. My favorite is Dawn POTA, it's a movie I am very interested in you reviewing for a nostalgia critic episode in fact, I think you would really like it.
I think this movie is perfect for a middle story, because from what I've heard they are going to make a total of nine Movies and the ending does great by showing what's going to happen next.
No matter how many planet of the Apes films I've seen,I always think of Roddy McDowall.
Took my Mom out to see it on Mother's Day. I thought it was okay, she thought it was slow.
I really liked the callbacks to the original. The hunt scene was really good in my opinion. And the music😘
critic need to review planet of the apes month
I'll see Kingdom sometime soon.
I'm skeptical when they make the fourth movie in a trilogy, I'm like "oh no, it's cristal skull all over again". The Cesar trilogy ended and we could imagine "after some years the first movie happens, Taylor comes down in his space chip, he meets Cornelious and Zira, blah blah".
I'm not sure if it's worth to check out this one. Also, is the human character THE Nova? the one that goes with Taylor, Cornelius and Zira in the original movie?.
Waiting till this comes out on Disney plus. I do like the look of it. I also wanna get caught up on the previous trilogy which I've heard is pretty good.
Should see it on theaters. It a good movie. Disney Plus is destroying theaters.
I hope they keep making these films until they have to just throw their hands up and remake the original Planet of the Apes in this timeline from the ape's point of view.
I actually realy like this movie. Also: Doug, you have to watch Rise, Dawn and War! They're realy good!
7:40 all that stuff and more is my opinion on the entire planet of the apes franchise. if you watched a single movie, no, even just hearing of the concept once is enough. you get it. no amount of story telling, cgi, great acting and plot twists can ever make me not fall asleep in a planet of the apes movie and i'm a big fan of scifi, survival and battles and such. the entire franchise is just so ridiculously overdone. you think star wars is bad? no. PotA is literally the same dam beats over and over and over and over and OVER again. honestly, i really liked the first one i watched ages ago and that one dumb version was still enjoyable as a tv movie at 8pm as a kid, then the story of how the apes became smart was super intriguing to me bc i just saw 28 days later, but WOW could i not give a damn about the freed monkeys in the end. and i'll just say it: i slept through 85% of the last movie and there's just no way in heaven or in hell that i'd even touch the first movie, no matter what praise it receives, you'd have to pay me at least twice my hourly wage to sit that one through without snoozing off.
Doug. Rise is good but Dawn? Yikes. That's a big movie to watch. I'd argue it's a new Clone Wars series for you; you're gonna love it so much and regret you didn't watch it sooner.
Can’t wait to see this!
I'll say this; the human character makes no sense, isn't likeable and shouldn't have existed, literally
Meshuggah vocalist now have a Channel😂😂
Dude, you really do need to watch Rise and Dawn. Andy Serkis does a great job playing the MC. I Rewatch them, still hold up and are really good films.
Your really missing out u have to watch the newer trilogy its such an underrated trilogy dawn particularly is brilliant
A planet where Critics evolve from man?
It's a madhouse!
I personally thought the film was somewhat boring and had some weird editing choices.
Fair enough. It’s not everyone as much as I liked it.
