    I got the brake off with out a tool; just clamped a vise-grip on it and wailed away at it with a big hammer! One note: be sure to lock down the shaft somehow, because I broke the plastic gear in the transmission during all the wailing! That fact changed the operation from a repair job to a scrap job.

      Sorry to hear that. these old washer could be fixed but you need the tools and the break tool is hard to get and is expensive too,

    Good instructions but you can also use pipe wrench on transmission side to hold from spinning. Wedge on the barrel legs it works

    While doing this repair, are their other parts that should be replaced after 20 years of use?

    i am having trouble starting the lip seal. The OD of the seal seems too large for the bore that the it is being pressed into. I have part number 207843. The OD is .835 . the ID of the bore is .770. That is a tight press fit. Is there another seal part number that may exist for my Maytag LAT3500AAE? Thanks

    Thank you for these excellent videos! Can I replace the oil without taking the cover off? Is the other side of the transmission (the pointed side) a fill plug?

      I won't weary about oil unless it has lost a lot of oil

      My old washer has leaked out its oil over the years, 19 to be exact. Instead of taking the cover of the transmission off I myself will put a small hole into the cover, towards the top end of the tranny and fill my tranny with enough oil to keep it going strong.. The hole will be sealed with a tire patch for a tube or tire. Very sticky are most tire/patches. I will also cover the patch with a small amount of automotive grade silicone to make sure my patch job' doesn't pull away or leak. If by a rare change my idea fails I'll pull the cover and weld up the hole and replace the lost oil again the proper way. I'm doing this due to being disabled and I dont want to disassemble the whole machine after replacing the motor with a new one. Clean the cover extra good with brake cleaner or a product that cleans off oil residue before applying patch. Try this fix at your own risk folks! I'm a mechanic so I can fix just about anything. Since there was no fill point on the tranny I knew there must be a way to add oil and this man just taught me how to do it, I thank him very much sir. for that info..

    nice video and very well done. thanks! Are there any work arounds for not having the spanner wrench tool 038315 ? can i use my air hammer to tap the brake package free?

    • @nbpt1000
      @nbpt1000 Před 5 měsíci +1

      I did use a flat punch and a hammer to tap it around. Spray some penetrating fluid on the threads and give it some time. You can get it off.

    Our maytag washer transmission is leaking... they said they have to replace it for 500.00 are they just going to repart it? Where to get the brake tool.. and how much.. if your going to use it once... does it work with just maytag.. is it worth getting for future repairs?

      Yes, but get it repaired soon before the transmission oil fluid gets to low and destroys your gears.
