Excellent advice to go light as possible on the Divide. Adding that if you're an older cyclist touring the Divide, not racing, think about adding a rear rack with small panniers. Touring the route you'll cover 40-50 miles most days, often less in rough or steep sections. You might need to carry more food and water, and just frame bags can be difficult to fit that needed extra for some sections. I prefer extra water in panniers, or top of a rack instead of on my back.
Thanks for going through all your gear for your divide bikepacking setup!
No worries!
Mate, just stumbled across your YT videos, just awesome. Love your work. Thanks for the gearlist and setup...have been debating/procrastinating an adventure, and seeing your setup was probably just
the nudge over the line I needed.
Cant wait to see your next adventure champ!
Thanks for dropping by mate! Glad you enjoy my content!
Good luck on your adventures!
Haha i feel the same! Awesome 😃
Love these kit rundown videos.....especially when I find I don't seem to be missing anything vital from my own setup ;)
Thanks mate! Glad you're all dialed in!
Awesome set up!!
Thank you M'Lady!
Inspirational. Currently getting ready for some tours. And this was super helpful. Also the doco how you went on a mental journey, brave and courageous. Well done.
Thanks a ton! Enjoy your touring!
This is awesome! Thanks for the follow up video!
No worries at all! Do we use any of the same kit?
@@JackScottkeogh Not yet, but my christmas present list is getting pretty long!
@@NathanOlsen-di9jh Love to hear it haha setting yourself up is half the fun
Great vid - one question... where did you put your GPS tracker? how did you mount it?
Awesome stuff, I'm loving your videos. Any tips on what's next for the channel?
Thanks mate! Still planning whats next at the moment but the next one won't be far off!
Great vid, love your work! Where did you store your (bulky) camera when not filming? I use a sony full frame camera and always struggle with storing it, so I'm quite curious!
I basically run the same! Generally in my seat bag if weather is off or lately I’ve been carrying a small backpack that it lives in, I’ve also used larger fanny packs that work pretty well.
Love your work Jack! What was your camera / drone set up on the divide? If you were to do it all again is there anything you’d do differently?
Can’t wait to see what’s next!
Cheers mate! I have links to my cameras/drones in the video description but I shoot on a Sony 6300, Dji Pocket 2 and Dji Mini 3 Pro. I think if i were to do it again i'd probably just try pack even lighter and run a hydration backpack from the start so it was easier to drink on the move
You're already using a crazy light tent and sleep pad, where would you hope to save weight? Less clothing perhaps? Did you use the aerobars much? Interesting idea with the fleece and no down jacket. I only use my down jacket for sleeping as it's too hot, even in sub-zero, so I've been looking at maybe Albion synth jacket instead.
Great setup and tour video, really inspiring!! What sleeping bag did you use?
Cheers! I use an Enlightened Equipment Revelation quilt
Hey Jack only recently came across your channel, great work mate really enjoy it. Looks like you live in Canberra, is that right? Are you on Strava?
Cheers mate! Yeah I'm from Canberra, my Strava is just my name I think
Will you do vid on the specifics of your bike? And where are you headed next? Going global or staying in Aus?
G'day mate! A bike specs video could be in the works for sure! I'd say the next ride will be Aus but heading back overseas next winter
What drone are you using? Awesome work and thanks for sharing!
I currently use a DJI mini 3 Pro
Hi Jack, thanks for the kit breakdown. Did you use a trekking pole for the tent, or something else, cheers! Tim
G’day Tim, I used one of the zpacks carbon poles this time around. Usually when I’m hiking I use my trekking poles but it didn’t make all that much sense for the bike
@@JackScottkeogh thank you Jack. I thought it looked too thin to be a trekking pole, but hard to see in the video. As you say, no sense to carry the pole on the bike. Can you order to carbon pole when you order the tent? Cheers!
Sure can! @@EvidenceofaFabulousLife
Hi Jack. Just seeing your opinion on if your Gorewear jacket would be an option for the PCT knowing you've walked that too. Durability being the real question. Am planning on walking this coming season and have had issues with getting a quality jacket for my hiking set up.
G'day mate! Great question but unfortunately one I can't answer just yet! I've been waiting for a rainy day out hiking to try it out because I would also love to try the combo! My partner wore it in Scotland where it rained a lot and she said it was decent so I am assuming it will be all good!
@@JackScottkeoghCheers bro. Love you work.
Hi! What about the sunglasses? I think they're polarized? And what's your review about them. Thanks!
G'day! Not sure if they're polarized, possibly! I love them though, they always kept the wind, rain and dust out of my eyes
They're also called POC Devours
Thanks for the rundown! What brand is the bike?
No Worries! Its a Hunt Bikes Landcruiser V2
@@JackScottkeoghOh, another Aussie Ti bike I didn't know existed! A bit more affordable than Curve, I reckon...
Yeah mate they're unreal, and to be completely honest, I put it side by side with a Curve and everything about the Hunt was just a little bit nicer, the workman ship and melds are the best I've seen. Curve's are still nice as hell but the Hunt takes the cake for me for sure@@doyounglee6990
Nice Video Jack!! _ Hey how does the Zpacks Tent stack up in foul / bad weather? Only 1 pole makes me a bit nervous around stability.....did you have hard rain and wild winds during the Tour...would you recommend the Zpacks in these conditions? - Cheers :)
Thanks mate! I think it goes pretty decent, I used a Zpacks Duplex for my entire PCT hike and it held up fine as well, there is plenty of guylines to hold it nice and tight so I never really noticed a whole lot of pressure on the pole. It can be a little noisy if its raining heavy but for the huge weight saving it's definitely worth it for me. After using the Duplex on my Thru Hike I could never go back to a normal tent. My tent setup on the divide is under 500g which is pretty hard to beat really. I'm not sure if you've watched my Tour Divide film but I had some pretty wild weather
@@JackScottkeogh Thanks for the reply - Yeah, I was riding TD as well mate but had to scratch in Pinedale with severe Achilles Tendinitis! I think I saw you also staying at the YWCA?? Anyways, I used a Tarptent Protrail which was absolute rubbish and I ended up throwing it away. Looking to go DCF and the Zpacks looks to be a solid choice!
Bummer to hear mate! Next year hey!
Yeah that was me at the YWCA. I think it's worth it for sure! @@stephenhammond3656
@@stephenhammond3656 I used a Tarptent Contrail (1st rev.of Protrail) down to Steamboat Springs. There is a trick to setting up the Protrail quickly and with a very tight pitch. Mine was wind and rain proof on the Divide and on many backpacking trips. Front entry tents can be tricky, but once I lived with it for a few weeks now I prefer them.
What are your handlebars? what are the tires?
Salsa Cowchippers, Maxxis Ikons
what waterproof trousers do you have .
Poc Motion rain pants… I’ve tried a heap of pants and these are by far the best. I rode for days and days in the rain and never wet out. A little heavier and bulkier than most but well worth it, I think they have a matching jacket as well although I haven’t used it yet
The Gore wear jacket is still available over here in the U.K.
Epic! Snap them up!
@@JackScottkeogh how do they fit? I read they run small.
Nah not in my experience, I got a L and i'd say it fits like one, I was able to wear by bag and stuff underneath just fine. I'm only about 5'9" for reference@@Tom-hl7wc
@@JackScottkeogh umm ok. I’m usually between a large and xl and I’m 6.0” so I’m glad I ordered the xl. See how it fits when it arrives.
hello, what sleeping bag did you take? thank you
I use an Enlightened Equipment revelation quilt, it's great
Anything you would change?
Not really, I didn't really wear my warm layers much but if I didn't have them I'm sure i would have needed them!
What did you use for navigation ? :)
I use a Wahoo Element Bolt v2
Hi. Missed where you drink bottles were?
My bad! I ran one bottle in one of my feed bags and one under my bottom tube
