  • The legendary Rabbi Manis Friedman, the most watched rabbi on CZcams, joins this episode to discuss Israel's war in Gaza. With the view of Halacha, he responds to criticism by the UN and the international community of the IDF's tactics, absurd accusations of Israel committing war crimes, the recent hostage deal, how the IDF should think about civilians, and calls for a ceasefire. He also reveals a deeper spiritual meaning in the war.
Rabbi Friedman hosted his own critically acclaimed cable television series, Torah Forum with Manis Friedman, syndicated throughout North America and is known as “CZcams’s Most Popular Rabbi”.
Rabbi Friedman’s first book, Doesn’t Anyone Blush Anymore? published by Harper San Francisco in 1990, was widely praised by the media. Following the publication of the book, he was featured internationally in over 200 print articles.
In his private practice Rabbi Friedman has helped thousands of couples and individuals achieve fulfilling, balanced relationships, through in-person meetings or remote video consultations.
Rabbi Friedman is a noted Biblical scholar, recognized for his sagacious grasp of Jewish mysticism. In 1971, he founded Bais Chana Institute of Jewish Studies in Minnesota, the world’s first yeshiva exclusively for women, where he continues to serve as dean. From 1984-1990 he served as simultaneous translator for the Lubavitcher Rebbe’s televised talks.
Born in Prague, Czechoslovakia in 1946, Rabbi Friedman immigrated with his family to the United States in 1950. He received his rabbinic ordination from the Rabbinical College of Canada in 1969 and is a professionally ranked member of the National Speakers Association. His speaking tours take him to every part of this country as well as Israel, England, The Netherlands, South Africa, Australia, Brazil, Venezuela, Peru, Canada, and Hong Kong.
With the launch of itsgoodtoknow.org, Rabbi Friedman is now using the latest technology to spread morality to a wider audience throughout the world through his books, videos and personal meetings. He has made it his mission to reach every one of the billion people on CZcams in order to help them improve their relationships and deepen their connection with G-d.

The pope would not agree with his interpretation of what is a civilian. Are you sure you're a Catholic. I follow the church, and I don't believe in this genocide. Part of his argument about Germany is misleading. Woodrow Wilson said not to punish Germans severely. Germans were crippled financially. And this rabbi is chuckling at carpet bombing of Germans. That's not church teachings. This is ancient Old Testament, Babylonian, Mesopatamian thinking. Jesus didn't follow that logic.

8:00 HE ASKS _"WHAT IS A CIVILIAN"!?_ 8:00
International humanitarian law is based on the principle of the distinction between civilians (and civilian objects) and combatants (and military objectives). The civilian is defined in opposition to the combatant. Literally, a “civilian person” is any individual who is not a member of armed forces.
Rule 1. The parties to the conflict must at all times distinguish between civilians and combatants. Attacks may only be directed against combatants. Attacks must not be directed against civilians.
State practice establishes this rule as a norm of customary international law applicable in both international and non-international armed conflicts. The three components of this rule are interrelated and the practice pertaining to each of them reinforces the validity of the others. The term combatant in this rule is used in its generic meaning, indicating persons who do not enjoy the protection against attack accorded to civilians, but does not imply a right to combatant status or prisoner-of-war status (see Chapter 33).This rule has to be read in conjunction with the prohibition to attack persons recognized to be hors de combat (see Rule 47) and with the rule that civilians are protected against attack unless and for such time as they take a direct part in hostilities (see Rule 6). Belligerent reprisals against civilians are discussed in Chapter 41.
No official contrary practice was found with respect to either international or non-international armed conflicts. This rule is sometimes expressed in other terms, in particular as the principle of distinction between combatants and non-combatants, whereby civilians who do not take a direct part in hostilities are included in the category of non-combatants.[27] Alleged violations of this rule have generally been condemned by States, irrespective of whether the conflict was international or non-international.[28] Similarly, the UN Security Council has condemned or called for an end to alleged attacks against civilians in the context of numerous conflicts, both international and non-international, including in Afghanistan, Angola, Azerbaijan, Burundi, Georgia, Lebanon, Liberia, Rwanda, Sierra Leone, Somalia, Tajikistan, the former Yugoslavia and the territories occupied by Israel.[29] As early as 1938, the Assembly of the League of Nations stated that “the intentional bombing of civilian populations is illegal”.[30] The 20th International Conference of the Red Cross in 1965 solemnly declared that governments and other authorities responsible for action in all armed conflicts should conform to the prohibition on launching attacks against a civilian population.[31] Subsequently, a UN General Assembly resolution on respect for human rights in armed conflicts, adopted in 1968, declared the principle of distinction to be applicable in all armed conflicts.[32] The Plan of Action for the years 2000-2003, adopted by the 27th International Conference of the Red Cross and Red Crescent in 1999, requires that all parties to an armed conflict respect “the total ban on directing attacks against the civilian population as such or against civilians not taking a direct part in hostilities”.[33]
      *_Highlights:_*
When the ICRC appealed to the parties to the conflict in the Middle East in October 1973, i.e., before the adoption of Additional Protocol I, to respect the distinction between combatants and civilians, the States concerned (Egypt, Iraq, Israel and Syria) replied favourably.[17]
In the Kassem case in 1969, Israel’s Military Court at Ramallah recognized the immunity of civilians from direct attack as one of the basic rules of international humanitarian law.[12]
Is it more clear to you, NOW, what is a civilian and what is not? What a shocking thing to do is to display mental gymnastics so as to mentally avoid the dissonance of maliciously redefining the term "civilians" for the dubious purpose of alleviating the shameful feelings of doing murder and war crimes. And by a RABBI! SHAME.

8:58 NO, Mr. RABBI, you DO NOT need to vet if people are civilians and *they DO NOT need some special identifying marker.* IT IS COMBATANTS WHO MUST MARK THEMSELVES AS COMBATANTS. EVERYONE ELSE IS CONSIDERED CIVILIAN UNTIL THEY TAKE DIRECT HOSTILE ACTION AGAINST YOU. Combatants Identify themselves by HAVING WEAPONS or wearing UNIFORMS or driving weapons of war or donning the INSIGNIA of their armed force. You god forsaken monster. @debesele Condolences to you, who doesn't know the definitions of Apartheid and Genocide.
You can't have Apartheid if the minority in question has the same rights as the majority, and enjoys the exact same salary for the exact same professions and schooling as the majority.
Genocide can only occur after the annihilation of the majority of the population in question
The so called Palestinians have quadrupled the size of their population, therefore...NO GENOCIDE.
You throw around words that have nothing to do with reality.
Hamas, Hezbullah, Iran and the Palestinian Authority all have in their Charters the intent of committing GENOCIDE against all Jews.
They already perpetrate APARTHEID in the areas that they control. NO JEWS ALLOWED, and PAY FOR SLAY against Jewish civilians.

In the Kassem case in 1969, Israel’s Military Court at Ramallah recognized the immunity of civilians from direct attack as one of the basic rules of international humanitarian law.
If you don't like that, then do not occupy nations.

ha ha, I fell asleep listening to a debate by Ben Shapiro and this video came on autoplay while I was asleep. I dreamed an old Jewish man came to my outside concert and we sat in a tent and discussed Judaism and the response to Hamas and how it's always been. I woke up and this was on. Huh. He looks just like he did in my dream. ha ha! I'm halfway along and so far, nothing he said in the dream is like what he's saying in real life. In fact, some statements are the opposite.
But I like his perspective and his vibe. It's meant to be entirely reasonable, not emotion-based, not inflammatory, just reason. I'd much rather listen to this than all the Palestinian yelling and hissy-fitting.

I'm listening to this from Australia. Since this war began on Oct7th Ive wondered if Im the only person onbearth that thinks the way ao do about war, peace, who is your enemy, what is true victory, the death of civilians and the stupidity of encouraging an enemy to hide behind them. (In this situation in particular because the civilians voted Hamas in in 2006 and by far the great majority still suppirt them in full). Imagine my relief when I heard Rabi Manis Friedman tell it like it is. Thank you Rabi, I'm not the mean horrible, nasty person many think I am. Im a realist. I love Israel, all of it belongs to the Jewish poeople and to those they invite to live with them. All of Gaza and the Westbank have long abused the position allowed them and it's time Israel claimed and conqured all that was promised them by God. Every inch of it. That includes ALL of Jerulalem, Israels capitol. And please Israel, get those abominations off Mt Mariah.

You do know that for centuries, though, Muslims and Jews lived side by side. And guess where huge numbers of Sephardic Jews went to when they fled Spain? Turkey, Syria, Palestine. The Jewish population was very tiny in Palestine in the 1400s until the Sephardic Jews filled their ranks. The Jews, Christians, and Muslims were neighbors without much incident back then. It was when Zionism emerged in the 20th century that things unraveled. The way Jews and Muslims and the Christians think is based on the politics of the 20th century. It's not how the people thought in the 1800s. An envoy of Rabbi Sonnenfeld who wanted coexistence with Muslims and Christians was shot to death by Zionists. The rabbi grew up with Muslims and liked them.

Ehr, are you sure about it?
The rabbi said that that theri children are different from other ones (ex. yours?), babies should be identified as non-combatants, etc. That's not only discriminatory, stupid, ignorant of the most common laws, etc. but also ignorant about the jewish religion, that tells something quite different (I can cite specific parts of the Talmud + Halakha and interpretations by several rabbis) .
Not to mention various other parts that are going from the justifications of killing civilians (that he defines as those that surrender - an absurdity) and insensitive phrases about deaths (of other people).
I personally feel a little disturbed when hearing "... killing too many" and then a laugh.
Note: those in that video do NOT represent the jews and jews are just humans like other.

They will say it's because of Hamas but is that simply for social media? They've given Israel no reason to trust the "civilian " At this stage, from what we've seen at the release of the hostages these civilians are not "not a threat."

The Palestinian citizens have given Israelis no reason to trust them. Many of the people killed in the October 7th attack were pro Palestinian, some drove Palestinian kids to hospitals when needed, gave them money, toys for their kids, employed them... They thought they were friends. The reason Hamas had so much Intel on the kibbutzim near the border was because of these "innocent" Palestinians who the Jews trusted and befriended. Some of the survivors said they recognized their Palestinian "friends" amoung the murderers. Some of the worst atrocities were committed by Palestinian civilians, who were not a part of Hamas.

I am a Christian and a Catholic but my heart is with His Chosen people. This message about the Moshiach resonates with me deeply. We can never be deserving ever, but God does not work through those who are deserving but those who are willing. We can only be ready. I had a Benedictine in my car today and he was talking about God wanting his people to be serving and loving of others. But I told Him, God's greatest desire is not for us to merely obey Him, but rather His greatest desire is for us to be capable of genuinely Loving Him and sharing Intimacy with Him through this devotion. God is not a modalist, but in recognizing our need for God, we experience Humility before Him. Our contrition causes us to desire to be of service, because we know at such a deep level that we don't deserve His Love and yet it fills us greatly in a way we cannot even fathom but are deeply compelled to share. But yes the person who knows this level of Love is deeply needed by those who need God. ❤

Born into a world where our religion, race, color, gender, and nationality are predetermined, these labels profoundly shape our identities and beliefs, sometimes pushing us towards defending our inherited views vigorously. This fervent defense can lead to justifying extreme actions against others. Thus, in exploring complex religious, historical, or cultural narratives, it's imperative to engage in multi-perspective dialogues and resist the urge to impose singular interpretations. Embracing a wide array of viewpoints is essential for nuanced understanding, as insisting on one's own religious doctrines or prophecies can deeply misrepresent or marginalize others' beliefs.

it’s not Yiddish, it’s Hebrew, but with Ashkenazi pronounciation, where the letter “Tav” is pronounced like “th”, or “s” instead of “t” at the endings of the words (and we have a lot of words ending with “Tav”), and “O” in the beginnings and middles of the words sounds like “Oi”, and some of the accents in the words are also a bit shifted :) that’s the Ashkenazi accent in Hebrew.
there’s also a heavy American accent on top of it all :) that’s why it gives this weird Germanic Yiddish-like feeling :) but it’s Hebrew.
in Israel we speak the same language differently, because here we adopted a Sephardic pronounciation which is closer to the original one, with the influence of the Yemenite Mizrahi one, which is the closest to the ancient Hebrew pronounciation, and only some Ashkenazi influence.
it’s a sort of like… in Israel all the Jews finally came back together and their Hebrew dialects and accents that each group developed in Diaspora, have merged back together. but those who remained in Diaspora, kept their distinctive dialects and accents, so they still speak like they did for the 2000 years of exile.
