- This is a real treat, featuring the excellent pianist Thilo Wolf (of the Thilo Wolf Big Band) who trades licks with Barbara Dennerlein the queen of the Hammond B3. Although one sees the big band in the background, this is essentially a trio formation for this tune (JUST PLAY) with fellow Bavarian Guido May on drums.
I've had this video clip for a very long time. Others youtubers uploaded it over ten years ago, so I didn't see the need to upload my copy. Now thanks to A.I. editing software I have been able to greatly enhance the quality of my copy, so it is now worth sharing.
The original quality was actually quite marginal, and despite being 4K and 50 fps this clip still isn't fantastic. To my horror, it took 16 hours to render and created an mpg2 file that was 39GB! I learned quite a few lessons on this clip.
I have one more clip from this concert I will share later -- hopefully it won't be such an ordeal ;-)
Concert from 18.03.1998 at the 'Stadthalle', Fürth, Germany
recorded by Bayerischer Rundfunk - Hudba
I think Barbara is the most talented jazz organist in the world today.
Her right foot is volume pedalling, the left foot is playing bass, her left hand is comping, the right hand improvising.
I regard this as some kind of miracle. Thilo's playing here is also top rate.
Thank you for helping me discover Barbara Dennerlein.
Love Barbara and her music. She alwaya plays with the best musicians and is always at 100%. With a classic background she is beyond description! I wish she was my wife as I lost mine and have been a guitar player since a child. She amazes me and playing bass with her foot is off the charts. Most B3 players play left hand bass and she knocks it out of rhe ball park! A truly amazing and wonderful musician amd woman! I wish her the best and success she deserves. Wunderbar!
This is bonkers !. I am a big fan of Barbara. Now I hear this genius, Thilo !
The foot work on the bass pedals is just mind blowing!
Welcome Michael, you're in for a treat on this channel.🐾
Thank you Barbara. It's wonderful to follow you through this piece of music. Truely profound. Best regards, Christian, Oslo, 24.08.23
As a piano player (amateur), I'm amazed at how much tone range Barbara can coax out of that organ. (She even managed to throw in some excellent vibraphone sounds!) Top-tier musicianship by Barbara and the entire band.
Thanks David!!!
Just incredible!!!
This is fantastic! Real music and skill and fun! Makes you feel really good!
Thanks Ronald, I agree, everything came together that night.
Buddy Rich's left hand. Barbara Dennerlein's left foot. Two of the most amazing appendages in music history.
Well said.
Thank you! Excellent!👋👋👋👋👋💫🌹
Yes, sometimes it's just fun to simply play, and play some more.

Well done on the AI side, this clip is fantastic, Barbara shines. And btw the drummer is doing a perfect job.
Thanks Lars! I agree, drummer Guido May is in the sweet spot throughout the clip.
Suppressing Barbara has shoes on 😳😳👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼🎹😼😼✌🏼🙏🏼
It's a New B3, i think 20 years ago in 2000.
Nope, her touring B3 is from the early 1960s.
@@hans1970 Ok it may be a Hammond B3 Portable Bertram transformed in Germany. It was still very heavy! It also has a MIDI socket to drive an expander placed on it. Thus, we can have vibraphone sounds. Barbara has belongings sitting on her bench. Excuse my English, I'm French!
@@bobcomment8589 As luck would have it, Barbara and I were talking this month about her touring B3 being in the shop for some service work. I happened to ask her how old it was, and she said it was from the early 1960s. She had it built into a customized touring case early on in her career, and (if my memory serves) had a midi added in the 1980s. By the way, your English is great Bob, Cheers. And yes it is VERY heavy.
@@hans1970 THANKS! Where is your store please?
@@bobcomment8589 You are most welcome! ? No store Bob.
Great !! but..........one hour too short -)
😄
Известно, что обычно у человека больше подвижна правая рука и правая нога. Ну или наоборот, если он левша. У пианиста одинаково развиты обе руки. А у органиста - и обе ноги 😂
Спасибо, кстати, она левша
