    Hi, great video! I just bought a "new to me" chevy bolt. I have always preferred 60 series tires. I live up in Canada and have to get a winter set of tires, so i will be doing exactly what you have done, but with winter brand from General tires. I have been a fan of general tires for years now. Good tires!

    I am surprised you thought the ride on the OEM 17" wheel/tire is a bit rough. I think exactly the opposite, it feels sooooo squishy, compared to what I am used to (2002 GTI 337). Goes to show the subjective nature of handling. Thanks for the video review.

    The tires and rims are factored in for the re Gen and designed for optimum efficiency.

    one thing and its a very important thing.... the EV's are heavier and will wear down tires faster, if you chose a tire that offers better performance, better grip, it will wear down faster. should probably look for a tire with high millage rating and or B rating for traction.

    Good video: wheel/tire combo weight make a huge difference.
    Chevy Cruze, sonic, and volt, and Buick encore wheels fit the Bolt perfectly.
    205/65x15" tires are also the same diameter as the stock 215/50x17 tires. I liked the LRR bridgestone ecopia ep422+ tires on my Prius, and will be using them on my Bolt euv when the stock tires wear out. I ran 38psi in my Prius.
    What tool are you using to reset the pressure?

    Lower profile, tires usually handle better, then taller profile tires, which tend to “bend” corners.
    But I guess everything is give-and-take

    Interesting, nobody's doing this, people are so obsessed with big wheels. It's odd that GM didn't seem to do anything aerodynamic for the wheels. I've wondered how bolt and Fiat 500e would do with over diameter tires, since they have too much torque to launch without spending the tires anyway.

    4 is really not enough these days any more. As for having a cover over a site, Tesla did that in the early days but gave up on it. Kind of odd if you consider every gas station has one

    Very nice! Now I’m very interested in your “long term” report - what you think after a year? Especially interested in high speed cornering and slalom-style handling because of the narrower + taller profile, as well as grip, compared to OEM.

    Anyone found alternative cheap full size wheel, which could be used as a spare wheel in emergency? I mean used wheel from junkyard or used tire place. I looked around Atlanta and nobody had it... The lug pattern is unique. Also the front brake caliper takes a lot of space...

    Do you think there would be any issues with a 40mm offset? Found some rims I like for a bit less.

    • @theevolvingworld
      @theevolvingworld  Před rokem

      Depends on width of rim & width of tire. Stock is 17x6.5 with a 44mm offset. Rims in this video are 16x7 w/ 38mm offset. Translates to stock inner & adds 12mm outer. Ideally a 44mm offset would add 6mm to inner & 6mm to outer. Assuming you are installing a wheel that is 7 inches wide x 16 or 17 inch diameter, the short answer is : 40mm is better than 38mm.

    • @tomshire5152
      @tomshire5152 Před rokem

      @@RandomThoughts65, okay, so your offset is 40mm rather than the stock 44mm. And your rim is 1/2" wider than the stock rim. If you had the stock 44mm offset with the wider rim, the face of the rim would project 1/4" (.25") past the fenders. But since you have a 40mm offset, that reduces the projection by 4mm (.157"). So your new wheels are sticking out by about 1/10" (.1"). I suppose that could foul the airflow a little.
      But what would concern me more is the 1/2" wider wheels getting too close to the front struts or the rear shocks. Basically the inner wheel edge has moved inboard by 1/4" + 4mm, so a smidge more than 3/8". Have you noticed any clearance issues?

      @@theevolvingworld I have "low rolling resistance" tires on my Kia Soul EV+ (from the factory) that seem to have reasonable grip in the rain, etc, but I do wonder how much the range would suffer if I put more grippy tires on there.

    • @theevolvingworld
      @theevolvingworld  Před 2 lety +1

      @@JustWasted3HoursHere I guarantee that grippy tires will help with cornering on the track & do nothing to add range for the other 99.9% of the time. Although, some tires kinda do both & others do neither. It pays to research your next set of four.

    For every 5 lbs. taken off a rotating mass like a wheel, 1 hp is gained. That's a whopping 4 horsepower. 6mm added offsets, shouldn't hurt the wheel bearings, I hope.
