    The Lich is a parallel to Betty in this scene. His purpose was to satisfy his "superior" without ever considering what he himself wanted. It's a power imbalance. The Lich isn't just this all evil entity that exists purely for that, he's a Comet, an agent of change just like Finn. He sought out purpose and gave it up for someone else.

    a) the lich has been described as a servant of golb for a WHILE now, like im pretty sure the first mention of golb was in relation to the lich being subserviant to them
    b) i agree entirely with the yinn / yang idea, but counter the idea this takes away from it with this. "if the lich is meant to be the yin, then erasing all life, succeeding, would erase the yang, then it would erase its own purpose. in succeeding it destroyed the balance, and is without purpose, hense the deppressed lich".
    C) golb was like.. always presented as being insanely powerful. the only reason the entire cast didnt die in the og series finale is because golb is an entity of chaos, not an entity of destruction, so it had no insentive to use its full power as long as it was creating choas.
    also i personally love that Sharmey and Beth or whatever they're called give a more feminine version of finn and jake's personality since they;re a reincarnation.

    6:25 I think you are interpreting this as if the Lich was "depressed"because he regretted killing everyone, but no, he only lost his purpose because he completed the mission.His only goal in life is to cause death and destroy every living being in Ooo, after he completed the mission, he doesn't know what to do and has no reason or purpose in life anymore.

    the lich wasnt satisfied because he lost his purpose. he had nothing left to kill and without a purpose was just stuck with nothing for eternity

    I don’t understand people who get upset when a big bad is easily defeated by a bigger bad. That’s… kinda how it works? The fact the litch was so easily removed from play is showing the terrifying power of Golbetty.
    Like, that moment chills me to the core. But you instead are just kinda like “oh I guess they depowered the litch or something.” That’s so weird to me.

      Yeah he definitely has some weird takes. But adventure Time is a big show it's easy to get mixed up. Still when he doubles down on a bad take it always sits strange with me. Like when he called the episode where they literally showed Fionna and Cake getting beamed into ice King's Head from a laser in space a "random moment". You can't just criticize a mechanism in this show is coming out of nowhere and then whenever someone points out the moment where it is shown happening the exact same way within the original show and pretend it doesn't track. That's just ignoring evidence to validate your own take

      @@noremac7216 I actually have been trying to find that moment and I’m struggling to find it. I keep seeing people say it was referenced in the original show, but where? What episode is it in? I’ve looked at all the Fionna and Cake episodes and I didn’t see it. I know it’s there, do you know which episode it is?

      As cool and big and threatening as the Lich is, the full extent of his power comes from the fact that he's an incarnation of a catalyst comet and is basically just an oozer that didn't lose his brain. As a result, something like Orgalorg could overpower him easily, and something like Golb could just eat and digest him like tried with Finn, Simon, and Betty in the AT finale.

  • @saltenzy449
    @saltenzy449 Před 6 měsíci +4

    So the Lich. I loved his end, as it gives him the worst possible end he could ever face.
    He prides himself as the last scholar of Golb, and through all his actions shows how poor a student he is. Golb isnt death, he is chaos. Golb would never want for the extinction of all life, as life is the most consistent driver of chaos, and whatever order it may make is far easier to disrupt than the orders formed by the unliving matter of the universe. The Lich failed to recognize this truth, and committed himself to a task he thought would give him purpose from Golb, but instead he rendered a universe lifeless and incapable of matching the chaos produced by other universes. If Golb even noticed the moment of extinction at all it would be like a single bulb among millions, dimming. The Lich wanted the extinction of all life, so he could fulfill what he believed was a divine purpose from the eldritch being he has chosen to worship. And the Lich interpreted Golb's will wrong.

  • @thedizaster115
    @thedizaster115 Před 3 měsíci +1

    Well, the problem for the lich is that he IS the Yin to the Yang. He succeeded in destroying the balance to the point where nothing remained. There was nothing left to do. Noone left to kill, noone left to torment, nothing left to destroy. He ruined the balance, so he ceases as well, as balance returns.

    you're quite negative of this series, but I like that. you're critism of prismo is kinda valid, but Adventure Time never had a story to tell like for example Steven Universe. The series came, the lore and story came after. OOO wasn't even meant to be post apocalyptic, that came after they found the zombie businessmen. your critism of the Lich, you are certainly not alone. The lich was kinda 2d just a powerfull being that wants to destroy all life. here he succeeds after wishing from prismo, so over a decade he couldn't do anything, he destroyed all life he has no purpose anymore. that has to bemind blowing for a character like the Lich, so to me his depression is very understandable.

    Like i understand where you're getting your interpretation of the lick but at the same time i really dont get it, i'm not sure why you see the writing as out of place or strange. it's more than just "i am so sad woe is me :(" he just kinda quite literally erased his purpose by achieving his goal. he does nothing but wander now, there is no more chaos to be spread because there is no one left to experience it. villains have a purpose when they have an antagonist. i dont know. i just generally feel like you're being very hard on the series and i can't understand why, but im gonna keep watching so *shrugs* its whatever at the end of the day

    Honestly completely agree about the Lich stuff. Before the whole "Last Scholar of GOLB" thing in that ONE Sweet Pea episode (which is a great episode), the Lich was always this sort of machine. Not literally, but the best example of this behavior was in Prismo's room. From what had been established, if the Lich got what he wanted, he might as well have stayed in the void with no other thoughts.
    Instead, they sort of went like, that comic book Thanos route, where his goals were to serve some higher power that he wasn't even totally understanding. Which like, is fine. But it goes against the horror the Lich showed from the beginning. He didn't really have any sort of ego or want any purpose, he was JUST the embodiment of the End. He was SO EVIL it was BORING. Even Death was creeped out by him, because Death at least was part of a system. Things died and went through an afterlife of sorts. But the Lich wanted EVERYTHING dead. So there'd be no reincarnation anymore, because there'd be no new life. Death of all people would have totally been creeped out by that, because that's just the END. The Lich didn't personify death, but the END.
    These were all still really good episodes and I loved it, but this whole thing was one of those things that really irked me. Like it's completely believable that GOLB could over power the Lich, I just don't think the Lich (with everything established before the Sweet Pea episode) would have given any shits about GOLB and chaos and whatnot unless it served his goal of reaching the end of everything. If anything, it would have made more sense if the Lich was completely still like an object when Simon and them found him, but once a portal opened to the GOLB place, he sprung back to "life" and tried to use GOLB to end everything *everywhere* everywhere, throughout all dimensions, and then got *got* by his hubris and died by GOLB in this episode.
    I'm writing a lot here, but I always found this really weird to me.

      The litch from this series is not the same litch from the main series. We’re in the multiverse guys.
