Ren & Chinchilla had it easy I guess since they were both in England & signed to the same management when he reached out or something so I guess it's not quite the same as if they'd found each other with one of them living in Uruguay or something, but still...
Ren said they had minimal rehearsing for this and only a couple takes. 💜
ETA: For some fun you should watch the videos on both their channels of a busking session they did together of some cover mashups. Somehow Ren talked her into it and she said she was terrified because she had never busked before. She’s opened for Sting but singing in the street was scary. She said she loved it & it was so empowering to overcome the fear. She suffers from stage fright anyway, and so she uses putting on her long nails as a ritual as Daisy the person getting into Chinchilla the character. 💜
When chinchilla stands up and belts "oh my my" I get goose bumps. Every. Single. Time.

Glad to see you react to this song. Ren calls Chinchilla his “musical sibling.” Yes, they did co-write this song and for me it was a powerful catalyst to re-examine some of the ways I was dealing with my troubles! 😵💫🤯😅 I’ve been off depression meds for a year and credit this song in a major way. I’m using more healthy ways to dance through this storm called life. ❤
I agree with the other commenters to keep heading down the Ren/Chinchilla route. How to be Me (LIVE version) is a massive favorite! I think you would love Chinchilla’s live solo of “Fingers” as well. She is badass!

The beauty of a Ren and Chinchilla collaboration transcends any sadness . Hope for the future ,2 more songs have been recorded reciently by them .
The term chalk outlines in this song is referring to walking through life too messed up on prescribed psychotropic drugs that you don’t even feel like a human but just a chalk outline moving through the world.
This one is actually shot by Luke Flegg, another film maker Ren has worked with multiple times. He shot this one, Murderer, and Animal Flow.
I'll agree with you Turk, that's a WOW track for sure and it's also probably one of my favourite "Ren x" tracks too. Chinchilla has an awesome voice and so closely matches Ren in tone and pitch, they harmonise fantastically well together. You can tell the maturity and respect that Ren has for her in her own right as an artist - his ego let her finish out the track, instead of demanding he be the last thing heard.
You missed the suggestion in the outfits though? They're both dressed in white, suggesting they're their own chalk outline. They're also working in collaboration with each other, suggesting they're also each other's chalk outline, or, as a lot of anti-depressant and pharma are, they're a secondary med. Usually one that mitigates or alleviates the effects of the primary prescription.

Yeah, this is my favorite Ren song as well. Everything else is fantastic, and I love the reactions to those more for the most part, but you hit it perfectly. This isn't something spectacular, its just perfection in simplicity.

The best musical “siblings”. Ren has called her his sister from another mister and a female version of himself due to their similar approach to music. For me I think it shows in the fact that they both have that something special that draws you in and demands attention. To see it fully for Chinchilla, check out her live version of Fingers.
This song always reminds that one of the (many) things that makes Ren so great is his ability to know exactly when to be complex, keep it simple, or even use silence to get his message across. He isn’t flexing his guitar skills in this, just playing exactly what is needed with that beautiful guitar tone. And my favourite line in this is so simple, totally devoid of all the clever metaphors that he is so good at using, but it hits soooo hard: “I’m scared of being okay cause all things change”. I think anyone who has been through any struggles can relate to that feeling of not trusting that anything good will last. You can’t just enjoy it because you’re busy worrying about how long it will last and the feeling that will come when it’s gone. And then good days just make the darkness feel so much worse because you remember the light that’s gone… Ren is so special. He keeps being so relatable that it reminds us that we’re not alone. And we will always make room for more RENegades down the Ren rabbit hole cause we all need his light in the darkness 🐰🕳️
Also Ren is a magnet for other talented artists and from one metalhead to another, you should check out one of my personal favourites: Crutch feat. Bibi. It’s an older song from before Ren was finally correctly diagnosed with Lyme disease and was written after a breakdown following multiple emergency trips to the hospital. It is heart wrenching and stunning.
He’s got other great collaborations too though. Penitence feat. Molly McKinna, Humble feat. Eden Nash, Blind Eyed with Sam Tompkins (and in one version also feat. Angry car park attendant 😂). Ren has mentioned wanting to make an album at some point with only collaborations. Probably after the next one he is working hard to finish atm though Sick Boi just came out in October 😅 Whatever he puts out, it will be great though 🐰🕳️

Some songs/bands/musicians have this ability to just leave you in awe. It might not be the most technical (Not to say Ren isnt) but everything/everyone is working together to make the song shine and make it special. Growing up Dire Straits and Pink Floyd were those bands for me.

I was beautifully moved to tears when I first heard it (having empathy and experience of the songs content) it really shifted something in me, on a healing level, as you said, it has a hope filled feeling, as it's from a point of awareness of self and the processes we experience from the depths of despair to the highs and joys and I love the powerful authenticity in it's simplicity. If you can tolerate screaming vocals, i'd suggest you check out Architects - impermanence live from Abbey Road. Smashed me to pieces, really (especially if you read the lyrics beforehand). I was like 'okay, heavy may be over after this one, there's just no point 😂'.
