“Friends Will Be Friends” was written by Freddie along with bassist John Deacon, with lyrics written by Freddie(which was confirmed by guitarist Brian May on his website). It is one of the last of Freddie's piano ballads, and in some ways is a musical similitude with older Queen material, such as “Play the Game”, and “We Are the Champions”. The video was directed by DoRo and filmed at JVC Studios, Wembley in May 1986, and features the band performing the song in front of fan club members. During the show, Freddie “high-fives” audience members, and at the end cuts the mic and sings along with them, letting them lead. Because of this, this performance was nicknamed “Queen’s Greatest Show Never Performed”.
Freddie said something like that: You can't please everybody. Great catchy song written by John and Freddie and I love the message of it. The sound of the video is excellent, but this performance was just for fun towards the fan club members. You can see contacting Freddie with some people in the audience in this kind of "shaking hands" mode at We Are The Champions in Montreal 81.
To appreciate better the live version you should watch the end of the 2nd Wembley show: We Will Rock You / Friends Will Be Friends / We Are The Champions. What you watched was part of the ending at Wembley 1st show. BTW many official Queen videos are just them on stage dubbing their recordings. They didn't care very much for the accuracy of the playing, especially Freddie who was a natural live performer. Keep in mind that many hidden gems of Queen were never played live and the only way to know them is listening the studio versions. Cheers!
It might be helpful to keep in mind that you are reacting to these videos in 2022 (almost 2023) with all of the hindsight plus insight which those extra years provide which Queen did not have at the time. This song was released in 1986, and the decisions they made about whether and how to make a video of this song were made with knowledge through 1986, not knowledge through 2022. Maybe if, magically somehow, this Queen song was being released by the whole band in 2022, 17 years after CZcams started, the Queen band members might have made different decisions about what kind of video to release for this song. Who knows, right? I am just thankful that we have as many videos of Queen as we do! Thanks for doing this and other Queen reactions!
Wow, the sync in that video is horrible! I thought it happened when you made this but I went back and listened again to the original and it's really bad. No sync bothers me so I understand what you are saying. I seem to remember someone wanted you to watch the official video on this but I can't remember why. They probably wanted you to seen him playing with the camera and the people, and just having a good time but I'm not sure. There's usually a specific reason people suggest the official video over the live because most of us prefer and gravitate toward live performances with Queen. That's the one thing about having such a long cue, we can't remember what spurred the additional recommendations...but that's okay. It's fair and it's really difficult to keep up with requests unless you have no life outside of youtube...and that's not good for anyone! That technique Roger uses on drums that you pointed out is something he is well known for. That's why it sounds like he's hitting it super hard. I really like it. When you think about the extra coordination and effort it takes to do that extra hit as well as him often singing at the same time, it really makes you appreciate just how good he is. I think he's very under-rated as a drummer. Great reaction, thanks! FYI---I wasn't a fan of jazz until I became immersed in it. I joined a jazz band because my friends were in it. It grows on you. I love it now.

All those people are from Queen's fan club, they were in a few videos.
