Salvador Sobral won the 2017 Eurovision Song Contest by winning both the most points from the jury and from the viewers at home with his song Amar Pelos Dois. What do you think of his song?
Best Song in ESC History!
Mark it.
It is a masterpiece.
It's beautiful, magical...it's a masterpiece :D
This song is not the best one.
Eurovision Song Contest Very very good... My third place this year but I 'm happy this song won.
This song should be a Disney movie soundtrack. It's mesmerising.
I would love hearing this in a disney movie, maybe like ratatouille or something and like walking around in Disneyland and hearing this would be a dream!
@@edde7611 Exactly, a dream.
Nooo it should defo be in a studio ghibli movie it totally gives me porco rosso vibes
I was thinking Ratatouille too!!
i agree this is more like Ghibli’s arrangements:)
The time Eurovision remembered it was a song contest
Very well put!
This one is more about sense and lyrics than voice, but a huge song that makes me cry everytime
Exact
But it isn't just a song contest, it's a contest about performing songs, so that includes the likes of staging
This is a bad song
Salvador Sobral still holds the Record of the most voted song of Eurovision Contest History. 👏
If Ukraine couldn't break that record in 2022 no one can
Sadly it does, although there have been lots of better songs

that's such a touching and amazing story! Hope you are enjoying my country

Good luck my guy, our language is not very easy
Que bonito!
I remember when he started singing and my whole family (who never shuts up) went totally silent. We were totally mesmerised by his voice and the way he was singing, it was incredible!
Saga Nord should hear him sing this with his sister. As stunning as he is, she is even more so.
I think most of europe went silent for those 3 minutes

The smallest stage, one man singing, simple music that hits straight to the heart. No fireworks, no dancers, no flashy outfits. Just voice and music. Amazing.
Fun fact that back in portugal hes made fun of cause while he was singing it looked like he was having a seizure and many dont think hes music was something that amazing since it was his sister that wrote it

Most emotional performance ever!
It was an "okey" performance" :D
i love ur cover ;_;;
I don't know, it kinda seems like a fairytale.
AYEEEE ALEXANDER
So was Finland's Black Birds ..how the hell this won if Black Birds didn't even get to the finals. ESC is full of crap. -.-
Can we just take a moment to realise that this man won a SINGING contest by only using his voice. No speciel effects, no "fun" dance moves, no dancers, not wearing flashy clothes and make-up. This is what ESC should be about, and not all the gimmicks that become more and more popular.
I totally agree with you
And that's why France need to choose Seemone this year and not Bilal !
I think you forget something there. The story. Eurovision is about the stories, the messages of the singers and the song. I agree that his performance is absolutely beautiful and he has an incredible voice, I remember crying while he was singing when i didn't understand a word about what he was saying. But let's be real, would he have won if people didn't know about his state of health ? Frankly, I'm not sure.
As for dancing, it also contributes to showing your singing skills, because it shows that you're enough of a good singer to sing and dance well in the mean time.
And his heart?
Oh yeah, he didn't play with his health problems to win...
I don't understand why everytime I listen or watch this song, I cry. So beautiful portuguese language and a marvelous performance.
Thank you from Portugal! 🇵🇹
"Music isn't fireworks, music it's feeling"- Salvador Sobral in his acceptance speech of ESC 2017
In 2017, 13 year old me despised this song, because it was soft, slow and I absolutely didn’t understand a single word of the lyrics.
Now in 2022 after falling in love with the portuguese language over the past year, I’ve decided to comeback and listen to it again. I can’t describe how beautiful Salvador’s voice sounds and how the melody just fits perfectly. Tears just keep dripping down my face.
Absolutely deserved the win.
It's a shame that people nowadays prefer flashy "loud" music to soft and beautiful music like this one, there's just so much more room to explore beautiful melodies, Eurovision needs these types of songs back
I was 14 and I also hated it, us young boys had terrible taste 😭 Its beautiful
i remember i was 10, when this song won, and since it was portugal´s first 1ºplace on eurovision, so it was on the news for a long time, now, altough i was portuguese i was kinda sad it won because there was some other songs that were way more fun, i´m now 16 and decided to listen to hear this song, to know why it would have won and now i understand!
@@GrayFields_ I mean you speak the language it should be a little easier to understand the beauty of the song 😂

I was so mad when this song won because I’m bulgarian and we were at 2nd place, I hated that song passionately for years, but now when I listen to it my heart is just melting, it actually is a great song, just a man singing with his whole heart and soul
Great comment shows you are a good human being. We do change it is normal to react differently, after all you prefere your country and that is very legitimate, but you have the true sensitivity to let go of that understandable rejection and came back to appreciate it without hard feelings. That’s honourable.
Not a shame to lose to an exceptional song.
The best songs is not the ones that hits you first time
Same actually, I was so mad Bulgaria didn’t win but this song is actually my favorite all time in Eurovision

So many people disagree, but this, for me, was the absolute standout winner for 2017. It stood out from the complexity of every-one else because it is simple, eloquent and emotional. You don't need to understand Portuguese to feel it.. it is mesmerising from beginning to end even when you have no idea what is going on. THAT is what makes a good winner.. it is agnostic to any language, country, culture or timezone.. music speaks volumes when it is constructed like this.
Exactly, you don't hear with your ears! You feel it, with your heart! 💙

the performance with the highest score ever being the most pure and real performance ever makes me happy
In today's world, everything's getting faster and faster and I think his performance was a beautiful short moment to take a breath and calm down a bit. Beautiful.
Portugal's record-breaking victory.
- By earning 758 points overall in the grand final, "Amar pelos dois" became the highest-scoring entry in the history of the Eurovision Song Contest.
- "Amar pelos dois" is the only entry to top both the televoting and jury voting in the second half of the 2010s.
- In the grand final, "Amar pelos dois" received at least five televote points from every participating country.
- With 382 points awarded by the national juries, "Amar pelos dois" broke the record of most jury points ever, beating Sweden's "Heroes" which received 353 points.
- Portugal achieved the biggest winning margin of the decade and the second biggest of all time, scoring 143 more points than the runners-up.
- Under the previous voting system, "Amar pelos dois" scored 417 points, surpassing Norway's "Fairytale" which scored 387 points.
- Also under the previous voting system, "Amar pelos dois" received a record of twenty combined sets of 12 points (televote + jury vote), overcoming the eighteen maximum scores collected by Sweden's "Euphoria".
- Thus, from a combined vote perspective, Portugal received 12 points from Armenia, Austria, Belgium, Czech Republic, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Iceland, Israel, Lithuania, the Netherlands, Norway, San Marino, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Ukraine and the United Kingdom.
Try to beat that my friends!!! 😎✌️

One of the most beautiful performances of all time. I do think this performance will stand the test of time, and its story will live to tell the tale of centuries.
7 years later and it remains one of the greatest victory songs of all time. This song has only grown on me over the years. A quiet masterpiece in a competition where it's often all about the bombastic and fireworks. Such an incredibly brave entry, and it absolutely paid off. This is one of my top 3 greatest Eurovision entries of all time.
Can we just take a moment to appreciate the fact that he didn’t miss a note and gave a perfect vocal performance? 😍
True. This is one of the best vocal performances I've ever heard in the contest (and I've been watching Eurovision from the 70'ies). It's not only pitch perfect, it's sensitive and touching as well. I'm not sure if the compositon itsellf is the greatest one of all times, but it fits Salvador's voice really well.
Laurell yes we can.
Laurell beautifully sung... just... so so beautiful
Nothing's hard about it. The way he sings require no vocal strengh or anything, so missing a note in that slow song would be a ridiculous thing for a professional singer...
you are obviously not a singer
Understanding the message without understanding the lyrics is the most beautiful and magical thing in music because music is a universal language.

3 minutes of almost not breathing, moving, blinking. So captivating, so special. This guy is purely amazing and yet so modest and simple. He is such a lesson. This moment is epic. In a world full of bling and tech and show off, he stands on a stage in a simple outfit, accompanied by his talent only, and leaves the audience speechless. It went directly to everyone's hearts. Call me a sap but my mother and I were watching Eurovision weeks after her terminal cancer diagnosis and neither of us had really cried since we were in shock I think. This song comes on and at the time we did not know what the lyrics meant but both of us looked at each other and bawled. Such a beautiful song and even more beautiful to me when I read what the lyrics meant, since that day my mother is having chemo and fighting hard.
Hope your mom be fine :) Hug from Portugal and from Portuguese people. The lyrics is a sculture of the words! Never forget to love by both (amar pelos dois) ;) ;) ;) This is what about Portugal: love and "saudade" ("saudade" is a very Portuguese word without translation, it means something stronger than "miss you"... But with more intensity, with more felling, with more love).

No, it is salty little girls all around Europe and Israel who wanted Kristian Kostov to win because he's a cutie.
Because it's monotonous and worse than at least other 3 songs of that year.
Tell me then what is your ideal song? Pop music? Rock music? Just say it isn't your style
Personally, I dislike the fact that the singer was really dismissive of his competition, claiming that his was the only real song.
I’m portuguese, I cry every single time I listen to this song. I sob like a baby, but the best moment was when I showed this to a British friend and she didn’t understand a single word. But sobbed with me when she heard it
2017, the year the Jury and the Public were on the same page when it came to the Votes! Still in love with this beautiful Winner song ❤ Thank you Portugal 🇵🇹
yeah, this song is really a masterpiece, such a sad and love story for who understands the lyric, also really good compositional wise, and the singer has embodied it very well.
really emotional and great song without all the bells and whistles. music at its essence and not being pretentious.
very well done Portugal.
I absolutely love Portugal, Portuguese language (which I learned to speak fluently), and music. I dreamed about them winning the contest one day, and Salvador made the dream come true. I'm so happy for him and his lovely sister, they are the inspiration for creative people.
This song. It hits so bad. It s touching, it s vulnerable. It s whAtever you want. He totally deserved it. I m just in love. Ever since he won, i think i listen to this song like crazy.
Dear Salvator , still this is my fave song that won the Eurovision contest. God bless U ❤️🧡
Portugal!! Much love from Germany, this song is with the winner in 2009 the most beautiful song. I looove it soo much thank you portugal
This wasn't my favourite song because it doesn't fit my taste in music, but you know, I still think Portugal deserved to win. Real music with real feelings by a country that has always peformed badly in Eurovision before this, and peformed in their own language (which is a beautiful language)
It reminds me a lot of Norway's ''Nocturne'' in 1995. Just a completely different song to what we expect to see in Eurovision, real music that touches the heart.
There's no such thing as real music or fake music.
"has always peformed badly in Eurovision before" ahah you are funny. We had already good musics that could had win the Eurovision but in those times we were nothing, without any power.
Thomas Wells Finally someone who doesn't like this song, but still appreciates it.
Thomas Wells A língua portuguesa é provavelmente a mais bela do mundo.
Cristiano Jesus I think he didn't meant your entries were bad but your placements.
In 2022 I still listen to this beautiful song. My favourite winner of all time in this contest.
Still one of my favorite winners of all time!
Es simplemente Hermosa, que belleza de letra, que sentimiento para interpretar, e llorado con tanta sutileza e intensión. Amei umas das letras mais belas que e escutado em minha vida. Obrigado aquí de Colombia. Gracias.
I admit I didn't understand why this song won the first time I heard it. I was surprised for it. But, after hearing it again, I have to say that it was amazing. That's what music is about, I think. Thanks, people around Europe, for having a better taste in music than me, at least the night I criticized this song.
Incrível, o poder da música. Eu também comecei a ouvir música portuguesa e a aprender português, por causa desta música. A linguagem ideal para cantar! Saludos de Belgica y España.
❤️❤️❤️🙏
