My pop worked with an old school rancher in West TX. When someone would go by with their pants tucked into the boot the rancher would say they’re full of sh!t. Reason being work jeans can be mended, washed or replaced. Good boots cost a lot so you had so you made them last. If you’re going through the mud and sand you’ll get some rock in your boot with the pants tucked in.

    • @JeffAboularage

I agree lol. Tucking them in only works with long Stovetop Cowboy Boots and 99 percent of the time, with Chaps on. Otherwise you look like a goofball.

Out in the pasture or grazeland I'd agree but, cleaning out a barn or stable I'd personally tuck the pants in. Manure washes off with a garden hose and you can take off boots before you go in the house. Pant's not so much;).

I am a high school teacher and I had a group of students this past year who always wore cowboy boots to school. One day I asked them if they are comfortable to wear and they told me about the different types of boots. Towards the end of the year, they all pitched in to get me a pair of boots as a surprise “thank you” gift and they are very comfortable.

Great video! I revisited western boots last year (2022) after about 50+ years of not wearing them and now I absolutely love them! As a kid in the late 60's early 70's we had acerage and horses, and western boots were part of the costume. I absolutely hated them back then. I never wore them again until 2022 when it was presented to me as a joke. I took the bait and very glad I did. I currently have 14 pair! During the warm weather I wear sneakers and hiking shoes, but in the Fall, Winter and Spring, it's all about the boots. I work in a retail setting, walking 15-20 miles per day on concrete, and with the right western boot, they are extremely comfortable. And they look good!

Great video my friend! The slight protrusion on the top of the heel of a cowboy boot is actually called the spur shelf. The spur shelf's primary function is to rest the spur and give it stability. When using a boot jack, it is best to avoid hooking the spur shelf, especially if your boots aren't broke in yet. You can cause the heel to pull away from the boot.

Glad you did this video on boots, Antonio. Definitely agree there's so much misconception on basically everything you mentioned around boots. However coming from a guy who wears boots every day, unless I'm wearing shorts, I can attest to the fact they are comfortable, look great, very masculine, and functional. My only complaint about boots is the quality control issues many seem to have as of late. Just hope guys who are not accustomed to wearing boots and decide to try them based on your video, will not write off wearing boots due to the issues with many boots seem to have today. I also think that many people who have negative perceptions about boots have probably never owned a pair, much less even tried on a pair. I think if they did, they would think differently about them and those who wear them daily. Well done!

Great video, Antonio! I love me my cowboy boots. I’m a traditional toe guy though. Square toed shoes/boots cyclically come in and out of style so I stay away from those. But Cowboy boots can really add an element of sophistication to your style and your ensemble.

Thank you, Antonio, for your great content. I have worn ropers almost every day for about 20 years. They work great in an office with a tailored suit -- AND they wear well with jeans. Because of injuries caused by a car crash, I walk with a cane. The weight of the boot helps to swing my weak leg, making it easier to walk. This video has very helpful information. Gents, if your boots are uncomfortable, you are wearing the wrong boots. Find a brand and size that fit well. ALWAYS look for a goodyear welt. (The ability to replace the heel and sole lower the cost over time.) And, most importantly, wear them often. Western boots will set you apart from others.

I grew up in suburbs of Illinois. I was always told my friends I can’t own western wear (cowboy hats, boots, belt buckles etc.) because I’m not from the country side or a cowboy but I love western wear. I also love the countryside so I was told I was a complete wannnabe cowboy and stuff. Eventually once I got out of high school and started college I became more comfortable just wearing my western wear and I love it. I wear my western gear a lot more often then I did and I’m glad I’ve become somewhat more comfortable.

For fashion there isn't many jobs to do....I do remember in the early 80's girls would wear those jordache jeans tucked into the pointed toe cowboy boots and man that was very attractive My first real GF was blonde blue eyed and wore them all the time...fond memories...

Cowboy boots are fantastic, and they aren’t just for cowboys. I was watching an interview with Tom Petty and he was wearing cowboy boots. A lot of rock musicians wear cowboy boots. Boots just look great poking out of a pair of jeans.
I’ve worn cowboy boots most of my adult life. If I am wearing jeans, I am probably wearing boots. About 4 years ago I started wearing boots with chinos and slacks. I get a lot of compliments.
I prefer wearing a roper, especially when traveling because they are easier for me to pop on and off, vs my Cowboy boots that require a boot Jack.
With so many styles and leathers there is a pair for everyone. When you wear boots own it.

Grew up in the great state of Texas wearing cowboy boots. Spent summers on the land, cutting cattle, hauling/stacking hay, fixing fences stretching barb wire, etc. Also wore ‘em to class in college - still wear and love them. Key thing is cowboy boots won't fit your feet as closely as laced boots. Your will feet will slide back and forth a bit more which can lead to hot spots and blisters so you might want the extra padding a thicker sock gives. If you can find a pair of appropriate thickness for your local climate, even in the summer, I'd say wool socks are best but a pair of the old school grey work socks can do in a pinch. After all you shouldn't see the socks under the boots so go for practical not stylish.

    • @tombeyer375
      @tombeyer375 Před 9 měsíci +2

Try Dan Post CC (Cowboy Certified) boot socks. They're a mid thickness boot, that gives a little absorption and padding too. Plus, they fit just snug enough, JUST OVER THE TOP OF YOUR CALF, so they don't start sliding down and have you reachin' inside your boots, to pull 'em back up!! I'm hooked on 'em and have recommended to all my best friends, who like 'em too!! Hope they work for you too!!

I’ve got a pair of what I consider dress boot, with a traditional toe cowboy style, such beautiful deep blood red color that was given to me a really really long time ago. They say Iron Age inside and have to steel toe ansi? number in it that’s about all I know, I mainly think they’re steel toe house slippers 😊, stupid comfy and i apparently haven’t grown since the 9th grade lol. They have absolutely no traction in snow so not wearing them in salt weather and not wearing them for anything other than just errands and chill activities they’ve stayed in really good shape. They’re the only pair of boots I’ve ever had without laces , and been they’re for me when all the others have failed, now I’m looking for another pair cause I love them so much. Also I don’t know if I’d wear them to ride a horse, I’d attempt to do that without shoes I think

Cowboys prefer a leather sole, cause it won't hang up in the stirrup. Sloped heel won't get stuck in the mud. Spur shelf on the heel helps keep your spurs on. Good boots can be half soled and re-heeled many times! Boots should feel good in the store or don't buy them. They slip on your heel a little, thats normal. In the old days, they got them wet at first and wore them til they dried cause there were no left or right boots. Made them fit better.

Great explanation but Cowboy boots or any shoe with hard heel will never actually be comfortable, the ergonomics don’t work and the shock absorption is awful on 99% of them, love them but don’t buy boots for comfort alone the things you mentioned surely help but without being a ranch boot most wear on your feet fast

Hello. I live in the uk. I teach kids outdoors in the woods in rain and mud. I wear leather hiking boots and Wellington rubber boots.
Would a western boot. Be the best of both. Or the worst in these conditions

If you're going full cowboy probably vintage Old Spice but I don't know if that's even sold anymore. They handed it out to soldiers during World War 2 so your grandma will approve and you won't get too much guff from the old guys;).

Thursday boots make great boots but I would not recommend them for western boots. A good western boot should come in Narrow, Medium, and wide widths. Thursday doesn’t even come in widths, just the standard sizes. Boot Brands are recommended that will fit anyone, Ariat, Dan Post, Double H, Justin. There are a ton out there. I would not ever recommend ordering online. I’ve done that. Unless you know the brand and how it fits. Go into a western store if you’re new to boots and chat with the staff. They can get you in the perfect pair of boots!

How about the correct way to wear your pants/jeans with the boots? I've seen many southerners joke about people wearing jeans tucked inside the boots. That's how you could tell they're just pretenders

It appears that western boots look right only with jeans/western-wear, --or with suits (!), limiting their versatility. eg: Do they make boot-cut chinos? Ideas and suggestions please!
