I’m not going to lie. That kid’s reaction to the talking snowman was some grade A acting. That was a pretty genuine reaction IMHO
I think they didn't told him what would happen and just let the camera roll
RIP Kelly Preston. She was so beautiful and talented!
Have to admit, I kinda like the way the parents and kid interact in this movie. Very natural and snarky, my family has a similar dynamic.
I do too. It is how my dad and I acted. We are a very sarcastic family. So it made the movie more relatable. Now that I am older, my husband and I act that way. And we are expecting a son so I am sure the sarcasm will continue.
I kinda get what you mean, but one thing that drives me nuts specifically because the mom does it(and it's so unrealistic) is when she playfully dumps all the marshmallows in his hot chocolate.
I hate when movies do shit like that, where the parent(cough cough ROBIN WILLIAMS usually) just.... GOES CCCCRRRRRAAAAAZZZZZYYYYYYY!!!! And makes an insane mess while playing with the kid that will be a massive pain the ass that NO PARENT ALIVE WOULD DO!
Unless that is.... They're on the set of a movie and have a crew that will clean it in 3 minutes afterwards, and the only purpose is to just cram in a scene that says "HEY! DON'T HATE THESE PARENT'S COMPLETELY! THEY ARENT TOTAL "DISNEY-BAD" PARENTS, WE DON'T NEED YOU TO TOTALLY HATE THEM, PROBABLY SYMPATHIZE WITH THEM MORR THAN ANYTHING", then I could see some parent doing it.
@@mutt9779 You...didn't had very fun parents...eh?
@@StephaniePrice oh everyone is sarcastic sometimes
I Liked how Jack Frost was Heartfelt, Likeable, a Fun, and Enjoyable
Story was solid, acting was solid (even the kids), and the bully ends up connecting with the main character through a similar tragedy. Honestly the only real downside to this film is the snowman design.
Agreed. This is one of my favorite Christmas films.
MonsterTeegs The snowman looks great, it looks like a snowman! Not sure what y'all expect!
Workaholic father dies and comes back as a snowman to reconnect with his son? That's a good story?
I like the idea of the father coming back to spend one last Christmas with his son, but doing it as a snowman loses audience connection, plus it kind of contradicts the title of Jack Frost. If anything, I think it would have been much cooler and interesting if the Micheal Keaton retained his human appearance but had the potential to control ice and fly . You know....like Jack Frost should do.
You could also speculate that Charlie would be imagining all of this. That this is his way of dealing with his fathers death, by imagining him as some sort of super-powered being who only shows up at winter. It says a lot on how he wishes to remember him and how his death effects him.
Thats late 90's CGI for ya. But I do agree with everything else you said
Am i the only person who cried at this film. I swear everytime the scene comes on with Jack bidding his farewell to his son and we see Jack's soul showing up while the snowman melts away, always breaks my heart in half.
🤧🤧🤧
Rip Dad
No you're not. When I was 9 years old and saw this movie I cried my eyes out at that scene. This movie has become a guilty pleasure of mine every Christmas due to nostalgia.
Nah me too.
Yup pretty much
NO!
I was never into this flick even as a kid when I first watched it I always thought it was lame even as a small child. I watched it for Keaton as a kid because he played Batman.
That moment you realize Batman and Robert Beratheon are in a band together
It also doesn't help that these two have also played the bad guy in Cars and Fred Flintstone respectively.
Wow I haven’t noticed that’s awesome.
Wow I haven’t noticed that’s awesome.
The snowball war scene was actually badass to all hell. Stupid as hell, but really badass.
i hated tihs movie even as a kid but i loved the snow ball fights
At least Frost acknowledged the premise was stupid
+the telekinetic rock the movie acknowledging that it's stupid doesn't make it any less stupid
"Pointing out your problems does not make them go away."
-John Enter
Meta isn't very clever anymore
Nah, I gotta disagree. Acknowledging that something is stupid DOES make it less stupid, since at the very least there's a self-awareness and likely even intent behind it. It more or less proves that you aren't supposed to take the script too seriously when the script itself doesn't. Think of the humour in movies like Last Action Hero, Spaceballs or Robin Hood Men In Tights. Not everything has to be morose and solemn.
+felynecomrade Theres two forms of self awareness: the lazy one and the intentional one.
I dont even think that this movie is aware at all, AND THATS FREAKIN HILARIOUS! XD
Wait wait wait... The snowman was INSIDE the cabin, tucking his son in and DIDN'T start melting?! Uh, how could you let this one slip Doug?
Stanislav Korolev Right?
I also think it was a missed opportunity for Doug to not comment on the fact that it was Jack's change of heart and choosing his family over career that got him killed in the first place. So, the moral is.... career won't get you killed?
Also the fact that they wanted to drive him up to the mountain so he didnt melt. So what... they took a drive without the heat on in a freezing vehicle? Maybe if they took him in a meat truck with a freezer lol
I read this as "fucking his son" and almost asked "wait, what??"
"I'mchainedupSupermanwithBatman'shead."
Composite Superman?
Soooo Super Batman ?
@@Theelectroarcheologist Batty Superman.
RIP KELLY PRESTON 1967-2020
It's a sad tragedy to the most beautiful actress in Hollywood.
Rest in heaven and take care of your lifestyle in the everlasting place inside the skies.
Take care.
Too bad heaven isn't real so yeah just a corpse or an urn of ash.
@JoakimOtamaa too bad you think your stating fact but it's actually something called an opinion. Slow learner huh
Gotta love how the wife just accepts that her dead husband is now a snowman. No screams, no looks of utter disbelief...just a smile. Gotta wonder what was going through her head after seeing that.
Ha, I totally forgot about Doug Walker being featured in Entrepreneur.
They'll print anything these days
I once rented one of those Jack Frost horror movies as a kid and assumed that it was a direct sequel to this film. Our lovable snowman friend becomes corrupted and lives a life of destruction and mayhem. I miss my childhood.
I saw the horror movie one first and thought this was some kinda sequel or remake to that film.
14:46 I always loved that part of the review cause i said the same thing as a kid haha
AH SENPIA NOTICED SENPIA!!!!!!!!!!!
Gosh darn it why do I always see a kid try to tell their mom and dad about some strange unbelievable thing they saw to there mom and dad everytime?! DO YOU REALLY THINK THIS IS GOING
TO WORK?!!! NEXT THING HE GOING TO TRY AND TELL HER THAT THERE LION AND TIGER AND BEAR OUTSIDE!!! HO GOD!!
sorry had to get the rage out for that scene. Am having a good morning so far. How about you?
+Scott Stewart Not morning, but hey feeling good!
What I never understand is that all this misunderstanding could have been dissipated if, yknow, the snowman talked TO BOTH HIS WIFE AND KID!
Youd think that his wife would be interested to know that hes been reincarnated in an evil looking snowman but hey, screw her I guess...
wow he got a dirty mouth 8:40 also he's right
2:00 NC deserves a Grammy award
how's this for a plot:
A single father named Jack [something that isn't Frost] was a failing musician on tour in another country. After pay cuts, negative reviews, booing, etc. he decided to resign and go to see his family. On the way he finds his car was tampered with, fell off a hill and died. However, his spirit didn't achieve all it was meant to so his soul was allowed to remained on Earth.
His son (let's call him Alex) was working on a snowman to show Jack, and when Jack finally made his way home he possessed the snowman. The son discovered this and the two collaborated in creating a cold area for Jack to stay in. The son visited him often, but never allowed the mother to find out. At the same time, Jack anonymously hired an investigator to find out who tampered with the car.
Jack's soul began to leave for the afterlife slowly, and his humanity and kindness drained away. His son tried his best to preserve him and to make the most of his time, but there was nothing the son could do to stop the effect. They said their goodbyes and the son left so his mother wasn't suspicious, but the melting was a ploy and the last humanitarian act of this body was to keep Jack away: the investigator rang and told him he was murdered by the mother, so for Jack's last day he took the name Jack Frost and attacked the mother, terrifying and eventually killing her. The last part of Jack's soul left, the snowman melted, and nobody had any idea how she died.
Also, 0 ice puns.
I'd watch that
That actually sounds amazing
Pitch that to Black Mirror.
That’s actually really clever
ngl this film still makes me cry........especially since i lost my mom recently and think it does handle how people react to loss pretty well, but this is still pretty funny.
Batman, Snowman, Birdman, what's next?
Womanman
he's playing the vulture in Spiderman homecoming.
+biznu bizzness I know.
Tristan Hartup Ant-Man
Naziman
I used to take delight in switching this movie with the 1997 horror movie of the same name at Blockbuster.
I love you
Boognish I would do that
I miss Blockbuster.
The amount of families that had to switch off tvs because of ice sickle sex had to be scarringly astounding
@@IncensedAgitatorIce sickle sounds pretty cool (no pun intended) fantasy weapon. I'm not sure if you meant icicle.
Reminds me of the cambells soup commercial.
Just imagining this movie being a campbells soup comercial makes it easier to watch.

This was a tearjerker for me. Every time I watch it, I have to have a box of tissues handy. The bonds that are formed are so emotionally powerful.
The ending makes me bawl Every time

2:58 ok to be fair
this snowball fight scene is pretty cool
it's like something out of codename kids next door it's just epic
That scene is so epic that it's the only thing I rem about this movie
After all these years, this review STILL makes me laugh out loud! This is the BEST Nostalgia Critic review EVER, hands down!
Doug was 28 here. Hard to believe his gone 40 .
Especially with all of his hair gone and his beard is completely white with grey hair not to mention his reviews nowadays kinda lost their charm he used to had back in the day like here.
Keaton's gone from batman to snowman to birdman
CultOfMoMo and this year he was in Spiderman
As a giant vulture.
Up down and back up again
Before Batman, he was Cokehead-Man
You forgot Beetle man
Full version of Hardrock Little Teapot plz :D
Someone needs to make a real band where they sing hard rock versions of nursery rhymes and children's songs
This movie just reminds me of a quote from Roger Ebert’s review, remarking how Jim Henson and ILM had created “the most repulsive special effects in the history of the movies.” Coming from the most respected and widely beloved film critic in history, who saw a LOT of films in his 70 years, THAT is saying something
Is it me or has Jack Frost always looked like Mike Myers?
Which one? The murderer or the Shrek guy? Either wouldn't be quite that inaccurate.
I thought more Jack Black.
🎼Do you want to make a snowman...oh hell no!🎤🎧🎼
Posting a Christmas video in summer. GENIUS
Technically it's a re-upload
Jason Fajardo My point still stands
EclypsetheWyvern If it counts where i live it's winter.
braden8361 Oh. Well in the states it just turned summer so...
Hello fellow brony! 😉
I watched this movie so many times as a kid that I kind of still have a fondness for it even through it's flaws. Call it nostalgia-goggles, but I think this movie's not THAT bad.
I also watched this movie as a child.
This is one of the only NC reviews where I don't entirely agree with Doug. I actually enjoyed this movie as a kid. In a sea of cheap, generic Christmas movies, this is one of the few that stands out. I always thought it put an interesting twist on the Jack Frost story. Sure, it's silly and the snow man looks hideous but it's got a good plot, a great soundtrack, and some surprisingly touching and emotional scenes. I would like to hear Doug's real thoughts on this because I think since this was an older review, he was nitpicking a little too.
Watched it and i thought it was a bad movie not terrible but bad and kinda boring
generalcoon47 This is in no way a twist on the Jack Frost story. The just named the father Jack Frost and then even put it in the dialogue in the movie how unoriginal it was.
Remember this isn't Doug, it's Nostalgia Critic. He's a mashup of several people's opinions.
A good plot? With the moral that if you leave work to go be with your family you will die horribly? No
Thie is one of the only nc only r
If this review was made today there would be tons of "Frozen" jokes opportunities.
Catherine Dixon ikr
Let it go.
I was frozen today
*"I saw Frozen today!"*
One look at Elsa and that kid would shove his dad down a snowbank. ⛄
Chained-up Superman with Batman's Head, coming this Christmas to a theater near you!
I always liked and connected with this movie more than I should have when I was a kid, as I lost my dad at a young age. So seeing the main kid get another chance to interact with his dad even if he was a dumb snowman, was always kind of nice and touching for me 😊 Plus it's a nice looking Winter movie!
Right?! Me too..... Even though as I've gotten older I can see the movie's obvious flaws but because of that emotional void I had when I was a kid, I don't care about any of the films faults because of the massive, "maybe this is what it felt like to have a dad growing up" , feelings it always gave me when I watched it....
This is actually one of my favorite Christmas movies of all time. Not many movies as genuine as this is.
Cant believe it's been 10 years since I first saw this on TGWTG
Batman to Snowman to Birdman
to vulture
To batman again
0:06 Litreally me since today is the 1st of December.
So long 2020

I think that was the actor's reaction to seeing the snowman prop for the first time.
if this review was done last year there would be a lot of Frozen jokes
Anna: Do you want to build a snowman.
Elsa: NO! LEAVE ME ALONE!
The comedic timing was amazing in this episode! Good job, Nostalgia!
Hello I'm the Nostalgia Christmas and I Christmas so you don't Arbor Day
Scott Sandler I think you mean "Hello I'm the Nostalgia Christmas and I Christmas so you don't Fuck you when the Hell is Christmas."
tetsiga45XxX I was originally going to say "D-Day" or "Kristallnacht" but I decided not to be offensive
Scott Sandler *CHRISTMAS!!!*
I like Arbor Day.
Nostalgically watching old Nostalgia Critic.
I ❤️ the Bambi transition.
12:00 I love when the screams cut off after being crushed. Nice touch.
This movie should just be called "Michael Keaton mumbles to himself for 102 minutes while someone opens and closes the mouth of a snowman puppet, and the puppet is sometimes 3d."
I feel like a better title would be _Michael Keaton's 102 minute mumbles: Snowman Flavored_
Snowman Keaton and the attempted redemption of being a deadbeat dad, with nauseating Winter holiday cliches.
Sid made that Chained Up Suprrman with Batmans Head
I remember going to theaters as a kid thinking it would be like The Santa Clause. I was VERY wrong, its a lot darker
That snowman will haunt my dreams forever.
Nathan Adams sadly that Jack Frost is really cute, unlike this monstrosity
Thank GOD Keaton did Birdman later on to make up for this.
I know.
Yeah, but it was about 15 years later.
And we all know 15 years doesn't do anything for an actors career.
I was looking for a comment like this BIRDMAN IS AWESOME
TheGamerFromTheGrave
Birdman was alright but far too long. It could have been half the length without really losing anything.
Criminal: (Dangling over the edge of a roof) "What are you?!?"
Keaton: "I'm Snowman!!"
9:03 that's the first time I ever noticed that Batman superman....thing. Seriously, wtf?
I hadn't ever noticed it before either. And I had to pause the video just because of how much I ended up laughing from the video.
James Hughes same here. xD
4:09 Critic missed an opportunity to use a clip from Wayne’s World through that repetitive back and forth talk.
“I did not realize that. Russell, did you realize that?”
“I did not realize that.”
I remember this was the first Nostalgia Critic review I ever watched. Idk if the video had just come out or not but I remember it was 4 years ago when I saw this. still hilarious to this day. I'm so glad that I came across NC when I did. he really helped me through so stuff. Thanks Doug, for everything.
Note: I know Doug will never see this. its more for me than him I suppose.
- Ryan
Is it wrong to admit I enjoy this movie? And watch it every Christmas? I can admit it has flaws and I love watching Critic make fun of it, but at the same time...idk I thought it was good
That's the glory of satire and critics. They both point out the idiocy and flaws, but in the end, your opinion is your own even if the facts say otherwise.
Eremikashipper 4ever nah it’s has some good ideas but it’s just extremely misguided. And of course Keaton is the only one who gives his 110% in this.
I thought it wasn't too bad. Doug misses the Christmas bond between father and son, and blows up any little negativity it has going for it. Of course, it isn't perfect, but it's nice, strangely it gets the message across, and for the most part, enjoyable.
I love this movie. We watch it every year.

So far, I've seen reviews of it by The Cinema Snob and Brandon's Cult Movie Reviews, so yeah, it's Nostalgia Critic's turn.
@@louisduarte8763 and good bad flicks
That movie is honestly worse than this one.
You gotta love how this was initially aired in December but re-uploaded in June
He should of done the Horror Comedy Jack Frost (1997)
+Pixel Man he never did a review of it
Phelous did that
MisterNightmare13 yeah at first I thought that’s what this was
This one is actually scary.
I loved this movie, and still do to this day. I can't help it, it's so sweet and loveable. If I was to do a review, I know it would be the exact opposite of this one haha
Am I the only one who enjoyed this movie as a kid?
+ShotJon Still do
Same I also enjoyed it.
I remember wanting to like it.
Barely even remembered any of the movie once I did see it, and the few times I voted to rewatch it with friends in the latter years, I always got voted down because everyone else remembers well enough to know the movie is shit(so we skipped it and I still haven't seen it for nearly 20 years lol)
This wasn't the Jack Frost I was hoping for. I thought it was going to be the horror movie
Little known trivia fact: Michael Keaton replaced George Clooney. The snowman's face is modeled on Clooney's and when he dropped out, minor modifications were made to make it resemble Michael Keaton.
I liked the film as a kid.
+Dragos442 Me too I have it on DVD and watch it every Christmas. Am I the ONLY one who cries at this film. I think its cause of Jack's death and I lost my dad years ago.
I was about 8 years old when my mom rented this movie. My sisters and I were expecting something like a live-action Frosty the Snowman. This movie just depressed my older sister with the dad dying. (We were going through a divorce and missing Dad. Bad time to watch something like this.)
I think after watching this wet blanket of a holiday special, we watched Rankin Bass's Frosty the Snowman. Always a delight.
I guess he should've taken the car. The OTHER car
I think the story would have been a lot better if the father had just come back as a ghost that only Charlie could see and the dad had until midnight on Christmas Eve to get his affairs in order before he goes back to heaven. That would have made this story a lot more heartwarming and relatable.
That would have been great
I actually cried at the end of this movie
CHEER UP CHARLIEEEE.... THE LONGEST SONG IN ANY MOVIEEEEEE
It Is The Amount Of Time Of ALL SONGS IN TROLLS
I think that Batman's head and Superman's body were actually mixed up parts of a Cookie Jar (in which they are now collectibles), and I even discovered it in a Warner Bros Catalog online at Internet Archive recently!
17:41 "Aside from the story, plot, characters, writing, and all around horrible directing, it's not half bad" might now be one of my favorite quotes from Nostalgia Critic
Then, a terrible thing happened. An angry rhinoceros appeared out of nowhere, and gobbled up Jack Frost and his car.
I loved Doug's enthusiasm for Christmas!
during the scene where the father and son are playing hockey together did anyone think that the mouth of the cave was really creepy looking?
How tf did he get the harmonica back?
I haven't seen the film in years, but I think the harmonica was retrieved after the car crash.
Likely was found in the wreck.
This movie is like a guilty pleasure for me at Christmas time. As much as I should hate it and rip it to pieces, there's too much nostalgia involved. The scene where the bully lightened up and connected with the main character really touched my heart when I was little.
If you thought this version of Jack Frost is bad, try watching and reviewing the one where Jack Frost is a serial killer.
No joke. There's a movie where a serial killer, who, after melting into some snow thanks to some acid splashing on him, he somehow became a killer snowman and killed people in a small town.
My mom and I saw the trailer for this movie once... we don’t talk about this movie
Fun fact: This written by Mark Steven Johnson, the guy who ruined Daredevil and Ghost Rider.
darkrage6 I hated those movies
Like that makes a difference, which it doesn't
Johnson did the story for Christopher Robin. A good movie he got his hands on.
I'm very happy Michael had his comeback with Birdman which is now one of my favorite movies. How did he lose Best Actor to Eddie Redmayne?! Not to say Redmayne was bad in The Theory of Everything he was brilliant, but this should've been Michael's time.
I remember being horrified of this movie as a kid. It still kinda scares me to this day.
So weird watching this movie now as Charlie's(Joseph Cross) mother Gabby Frost(Kelly Preston) passed away on the 12th July 2020.
He should review the other Jack Frost movie.
The one with the killer snowman Jack Frost.
lol its funny seeing his evolution of Christmas intros.
