Dylan Dumais Yeah funny how you can go from never hearing of a show to it becoming your favorite series ever. And one who you love so much you're able to get actual actors with it to do something with you.
DianaGohan Though I still find it ironic Doug first heard about ATLA because people thought he was insulting Mako when technically he wasn't. He was in fact insulting Greg Baldwin. Since though Mako did do voice work for TMNT and you do hear his voice in the movie, like the second season of ATLA there are times when he's replaced by Greg Baldwin since if you're dead you can't re-record dialogue, thus someone has to sub for you if you miss or need a line redone. And in that clip NC showed here where he made the cigartette joke, that was Greg Baldwin. So yeah weird how he found out about a show by people accusing him of making a mistake he didn't actually make.
Dynaman21 Well like that's... YOUR opinion man. But personally I am much more in favor of Doug/Nostalgia Critic actually not only knowing more about what's going on in cartoons, but actually appreciating. Seriously Nick month would of been better if he knew more about Nickelodeon's current history instead of stopping at say Ahh Real Monsters and only trying to talk about Hey Arnold by seeing an episode and offering some commentary. I much prefer Doug actually taking a time to watch and know all about a series now before really talking about it or at the very least actually bothering to do more research or try to explain it better like with the Disney afternoon episode.
Yes, if only he could see his future. He'd probably buy the largest amount of nitroglycerine he could and plant it around Shyamalan's lawn before the moron ever got the idea to pitch a live action film adaptation. God knows I would.
Cinderella would have been a much better story if her fairy godmother had been more like Red Sonja's, and gave her weapons and superpowers instead of a dress.
+scottski02 Original story didn't have a fairy godmother. It was her mother's spirit sending her everything, and her mother's spirit sending birds to peck out the eyes of the step sisters
Funnily enough, this was not a Conan rip-off--it was actually Conan in this movie, since Red Sonja in various fictions has DONE crossovers with Conan multiple times, and this was meant to be such a crossover between Conan and Red Sonja. There was apparently some kind of rights issue keeping this from being the actual Conan, so they had to replace his name in the script. But it is intended to be him.
+Spike Prime you want another fun fact? Technically I heard Arnold's character isn't actually Conan, he's a similar character because they couldn't get the rights to use the Conan character
The Fairy Godmother was being kind of insensitive. She's all like "Hey, remember that time when the evil queen murdered your whole family and sent guards to gang-rape you? No? Well then I'm gonna remind you of it!"
I like to think the bad acting is a plot point attributed to the fact that they are Barbarians, When I think of Barbarians I don't think of witty Sherlock Holmes types who always have to perfect comeback and Oxford accent. I think of large mountains of muscle that speak awkwardly and always respond with violence to almost every situation.
That's how people communicate in living memory lol if you went back a few hundred years even you would find it hard to understand spoken words. Life's too short to judge a film so thoroughly when it's in the fantasy genre LOL it's suppose to be fun. Not a documentary.
It would also make a way more interesting movie....and a cool commentary on self-hatred among women. But that means this movie would actually have a deep portrayal of the struggle for female empowerment.
She should hate both men and women, therefor anyone other than eunuchs, children and the intersexed, because the Queen killed her family as revenge for rejection, and ordered her men to violate Sonja.
Cyro-Nydd i think the movie is insinuating the rape was what made her hate men, ill probably get shot for saying this but as horrible as rape is, is it really as bad as murder or beating someone within an inch of their life? and even if you do see rape as the be all end all of horrible things gedrin ordered the rape so i guess everyone's points still stand
MsSphinx91 Hating women because of what women have done (which women do with men all the time), wouldn't mean she actually hates herself. The "struggle for female empowerment" just seems very patronising to me. We're not so frail and infantile.
NC: He did voices for Avatar: The Last Airbender, which I've never heard of.." Me: ............*stops video and searches for "Top 11 Best Avatar episodes" lol
the random nude scene is like that wizard was watching porn earlier and forgot to cross it off on his computer so when he opened it, his weird porn was up. then, he changed it over pretending that he didnt see anything
I'm surprised he didn't point out that Queen Gedren was played by the same woman who was Valeria in Conan the Barbarian, Sandahl Bergman. It was weird seeing her go from a hero to an over the top villain role.
Did that priestess at the beginning say "why is The Lord of Eternia not here?" :/ I'm sorry Prince Adam is fighting Skeletor as He-Man right now so he won't be making it today.
Note, the string in the brat lifting scene was probably less for Arnold's lack of muscle and more for making sure the kid didn't get hurt if he was dropped.
"Logically, I can't hate someone I don't know, especially if he's dead". Please take some of this wisdom and spread it to tumblr and reddit. Lot of uncalled for hate going on over there.
Because if you do not have any personal connection to them, then you don't actually KNOW the person. Now, I understand that if we're talking about someone like Hitler, he committed Genocide, you can hate him without knowing him, because that's just evil. But for a person who hasn't committed such crimes, or if they're just your average joe that you don't know, then you have no just reason to hate somebody.
+Nikodimos Triaridis that joke Soka so bad, i really wanna pull out my katara blade, you make me so Aangry with your puns, oh well, i will have to toph it out.
If you HAD known more about Conan, you would know that this movie was made with the leftovers. Queen Gedrin? Was Conan's girlfriend. Still, points for getting the "Where are you?!" cut.
I think this could mean one of two things: 1- It was a joke that ran until the review of the last airbender. 2- Maybe he meant he never heard *Angelic Music* Mako was in it.
+Spring Trap No,he literally meant he didn't know what Avatar the last Airbender was. He put some hours into it later on and came out loving the show. So yeah, he didn't meant he hated Avatar, rather than he had never even heard of it before the Mako fans started attacking him.
Lowkeylie Bruce Lee also fought the 1966 Dynamic Duo Batman and Robin in a Batman episode with special appearances by the Green Hornet and Kato. He was actually in 3 episodes.
Mako also fought Bruce Lee as Kato to the death in an episode of THE GREEN HORNET in 1967 -- you can't get more badass than that even if you do lose the fight
When i still had my girlfriend named sonja and she had red hair coincidentally, (i found the movie before she died it red and i knew she was going to do it soon so i waited with the movie) and im all like hey lets watch red sonja (when she had red hair) and she is all like sure and we watched then she broke up with me, no fucking joke
NegativePleasure common sense, her sister was a priestess in the temple the talisman was kept in.her father, mother and brother were home with Sonja. her sister was later killed trying to escape gedran's soldiers, which was explained by kalidor to Sonja before she left to kill gedran. that's how her sister was still alive
Yes, Please! :D But now that he loves Avatar and the past Mako-thing behind him, I think he should do Transformers Prime vlogs as well. Since he has had some history with the Transformers, it be crazy for him to pass these up.

It's MAH-KO not freaking MAKE-O His name is japanese; therefore, the vowels will almost ALWAYS sound the same way. (ah- A, Eee - E, Ai - I (but also Ai, like the ending of "Pie"; which is an exception), Oh - O, U - U (as in the u in "cute") REMEMBER THAT WHEN YOU ARE PRONOUNCING JAPANESE NAMES/WORDS
Well people pronounce names differently... like people pronounce Naruto NAH-ruto and others pronounce it Nar-U-to, putting emphasis on the u. It just depends on preference and comfort.
JayLaxMe, Make that 4 years later after this review came out and the fact that he (As The Nostalgia Critic in his Last Airbender Review) called it the greatest T.V series ever if anything else is concerned!
I watched this review when it was new (haha! _rhyming!_ ), and I've not seen it since the early 2010's. It's funny how time passes, and how the making of this review is closer in time to the release of _Nintendo 64_ than it is to the present. It should be a reminder for people to appreciate life while it lasts.
Dooooooouuuuuuuug! I come to you from the fuuuuuuuuutuuuuuuuuure! You see the entirety of Avatar: The Last Airbender and it becomes your new favourite shooooooooooooow!
For those wanting to see the real Red Sonya (ie, Red Sonja) download the story Red Sonya - The shadow of the Vulture by Robert E. Howard, the creator of the original Conan and Soloman Kane (fyi - there is a newly released movie of the same title. Totally awesome and sticks to the storyline). While the story was much better this movie was so horrible it was cute. I would say go watch this movie but its not THAT good. Stick with the story. Thanks Nostalgia Critic for the video.
Sonja's costume in the comic series is much, *much* more revealing. Literally all she wears is a chain mail metal bikini. Shame they didn't use that in the film.
fun film fact no one probably noticed..... look at kalidor's sword, and Sonja's sword.... the hilt decorations are exactly the same. the only difference being Sonja's sword is shorter with a two handed pammel, and it has an extra guard in the shape of a moon, otherwise the exact same sword design..... something no one notices until they watch on
Monroville they are almost mirror images of one another, only difference is Sonja's had that cresent moon guard between the blade and the hilt. but otherwise, most the etchings and carving decals are identical
Anus Potatus Raped by the order of a female who had molested her. Literally without the queen, none of this would have happened to her. It's retarded as fuck.
Ionlymadethistoleavecoments I forget the name, but I know it was an episode that focused on several characters on the show having their own short stories
Brigitte Nielsen really was a terrible actress......I just didnt noticed it in that movie because her dubing voice was way better than the original (Im from germany I only knew the synchonised version until now). That shows what influence on quality the voice is having.
Love how Doug said that he had never heard of Last Airbender but it's since become one of his favorite shows of all time (he said that show and Daria are his two favorites)
Schwarzenegger commented, "It's the worst film I have ever made." He joked, "Now, when my kids get out of line, they're sent to their room and forced to watch Red Sonja ten times. I never have too much trouble with them."
I think he either lied or watched it after this XD...in any case I dont think he did before doing the TMNT review due to the joke he made in the review u_u
NekoSoren He didn't look at the Avatar Series until after this review. Even though this review says it was posted on youtube on 2013, this was released on his website on 2009. I believe he reviewed Avatar after this, but before The Last Airbender movie. blip.tv/nostalgiacritic/last-airbender-vlog-the-boy-in-the-iceberg-6596629
No I mean because if what I know is right I think Mako actually died off from esophageal cancer not too long after finished making the voice for splinter in this movie
"Avatar: The Last Airbender, which I've never heard of..."
WELL THAT CHANGED
Boy, did it ever.
Dylan Dumais Yeah funny how you can go from never hearing of a show to it becoming your favorite series ever. And one who you love so much you're able to get actual actors with it to do something with you.

Right, this isn't Conan. It's "Lord Kalidor"

That Morricone score is badass
Nobody fucks with Mako...or Robin Williams!
MrDrawingboard1 Robin Williams has had some truly terrible performances. Mako really has only been in true classics as far as I know.
A part of me likes to think that the Critic is still somewhat scared of Mako to this day.
Especially since he now has seen and loves Avatar the Last Airbender.
Yes he still is
I like to think the bad acting is a plot point attributed to the fact that they are Barbarians, When I think of Barbarians I don't think of witty Sherlock Holmes types who always have to perfect comeback and Oxford accent. Agreed. I love this film. It's a fantasy film for god sake. It's never going to be 100% scientifically accurate LOL (:
That's how people communicate in living memory lol if you went back a few hundred years even you would find it hard to understand spoken words. Life's too short to judge a film so thoroughly when it's in the fantasy genre LOL it's suppose to be fun. Not a documentary.
Shouldn't Sonja hate women since her tragedy was brought on by the queen?
o no that would make WAY too much sense.
It would also make a way more interesting movie....and a cool commentary on self-hatred among women. But that means this movie would actually have a deep portrayal of the struggle for female empowerment.
She should hate both men and women, therefor anyone other than eunuchs, children and the intersexed, because the Queen killed her family as revenge for rejection, and ordered her men to violate Sonja.

xxArtyKidxx no he never watched it until he did the vlogs

nick barnes :) no complaints here
also, he professes his love for the show when he reviewed the movie, anyway, yea, im sure he never seen avatar until after this review
It's just weird hearing NC say he's never heard of Avatar: The Last Airbender, considering that it is now his favorite show.
The council of ridiculous hats look like they are from Gallifrey.
As a Dr. Who fan, I find that offensive. As a youtuber, I find it hilarious. XD

I love mako. He was really good as uncle iroh in avatar the last airbender which this guy actually loves now. How ironic.

Still, points for getting the "Where are you?!" cut.
You think he kicked himself twice as hard when he became the biggest friggin Airbender fan ever?
Most likely.
I like how he's a crazy fan of Avatar: the Last Airbender, and probably a huge Mako fan.
Well, this was before he even seen the series, so...
Well yeah, that's why it's funny how this was his view
Nathan Haskew Yeah...
I love how he said how he never watched ATLA. And soon enough, he did XD
And rip that abomination of a movie to shreds. It is the destiny of the avid jerk.
"Put the cookie DOWN!" XD God I love the use of that clip! Here and in other reviews featuring Arnold...
So weird now to hear him say hed never heard of avatar.
I think this could mean one of two things:
1- It was a joke that ran until the review of the last airbender.

Can I have wheel now?
+Jeffery Xavier Will you shut up about the wheel!!!???!!!
+hemmingwayfan oh man thar was funny
Critic: I don't think he;s even fighting it, I think he's just enjoying the ride.
Arnold: Wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!
The best part about all this is that now he's one of the biggest Avatar fanboys I've ever seen.
Oh, another fun fact. Mako once fought Bruce Lee in an old Green Hornet series.
True story.
Lowkeylie He's an Avatard, certainly
Lowkeylie Bruce Lee also fought the 1966 Dynamic Duo Batman and Robin in a Batman episode with special appearances by the Green Hornet and Kato. He was actually in 3 episodes.
remember when the NC didn't know what Avatar: The Last Airbender was?
"Sorry I totally blanked, what was that?"
My gosh, it's already been 8 years sense mako died?? It seems like yesterday :,(
Also, Sonja reminds me of Susan strong from adventure time.
***** Why?
Is it bad that I didn't know who Mako was until this review?
Lyn Taylor Nah, me neither. I knew as General Iroh.
Lyn Taylor Yes
Remember how at the end of Conan The Barbarian the viewer is promised that there are many more tales to be told? Man, biggest letdown ever...
Mako also fought Bruce Lee as Kato to the death in an episode of THE GREEN HORNET in 1967 -- you can't get more badass than that even if you do lose the fight
The soundtrack was really well done. And yeah, I know it was full of weird acting and lots of silliness, but it was really creative and imaginative.
When i still had my girlfriend named sonja and she had red hair coincidentally, (i found the movie before she died it red and i knew she was going to do it soon so i waited with the movie) and im all like hey lets watch red sonja (when she had red hair) and she is all like sure and we watched then she broke up with me, no fucking joke
like if you cried every time like i do into my pillow at night
Im sorry dude ahah
She "died" her hair, bit extreme.
CaptainNdleDick I nearly lost my sh*t at "I found the movie before she died - "
"I found the movie before she died..."
Me: Gasp!
"... her hair red."
Me: Sigh.
He always says Meiko. It's Mako. M-AH-KO
Wait, if Sonja's family was slaughtered in the prologue, then how come her sister is alive?
or maybe the sister was somewhere else...
I think it's more along the lines of her sister being fellow woman, but not siblings
jrny20 sister figures I guess
copnite12342
yeah
NegativePleasure common sense, her sister was a priestess in the temple the talisman was kept in.her father, mother and brother were home with Sonja. her sister was later killed trying to escape gedran's soldiers, which was explained by kalidor to Sonja before she left to kill gedran. that's how her sister was still alive
I'm guessing the string on Ernie was because the filmmakers were afraid Arnold would accidentally drop him. Gotta be careful when working with kids.
Lord of Eternia.... did they make a He-man reference?
Turmoil IKR
Sonja: Where are you?!
me: OH MY GOSH! SHE'S MORPHING INTO OLIVIA FROM THE GREAT MOUSE DETECTIVE!!!
The string is probably for the actor's safety more than anything.
+megaman455 Yeah, Arnold would have choked the little brat holding him like this.
Odd music placement aside, you have to admit that Ennio Morricone's music is lovely as always.
Wait, the famed Spaghetti Western composor behind the Dollars trilogy did this soundtrack?
Very true.
PUT THAT COOKIE DOWN!
Anyone else think Doug should do Samurai Jack vlogs? :D
Yes, Please! :D
But now that he loves Avatar and the past Mako-thing behind him, I think he should do Transformers Prime vlogs as well. Since he has had some history with the Transformers, it be crazy for him to pass these up.
Then: "Avatar: the last airbender. Which I never heard of."
Now: "Avatar is one of my favourite shows ever.

The wire was in case Arnold decided to throw the annoying child.
I find it funny how in the thumbnail, the NC looks kinda like Ned Flanders.

"the ancient order of silly hats"; it was just another short lived cult, unfortunately.
a kind of "cat woman" of the 80's
I don't watch him for his critic reviews, i watch him because its fun to see a grown man throw a hissy fit with that squeaky voice of his.
That's why Nicolas Cage is so popular.
his reactions are hilarious indeed xD
How does NC just flat out IGNORE the random GIANT SPIDER at 11:49?
He hadn't done the Lost in Space review at this point, so he hadn't created the Dr. Smith spider character yet. But yeah that would have been a perfect segue otherwise.
Its legs are moving as if its walking, but its not moving. :P

I don't either lol
I'm referring to the Nostalgia Critic xD
Ahhh my bad :p
Apparently he changed his views on Avatar The last Airbender XD
For the record Red Sonja isn't a Conan ripoff, it was intended to be Conan the Barbarian 3 but Arnold didn't want to play Conan.
Where did you hear that? What I read was he was supposed to be Conan but there was a rights issue with R.E. Howards estate.
Not true.
It was supposed to be a Conan spin off, but they couldn't get the rights to use the Conan name.
Several days later he talks about avatar and how good it is.
JayLaxMe, Make that 4 years later after this review came out and the fact that he (As The Nostalgia Critic in his Last Airbender Review) called it the greatest T.V series ever if anything else is concerned!
Technically Red Sonja isn't a ripoff, because it is in the same universe of the Conan books and stuff
You missed another cameo : the prince aid is Paul L. Smith from Midnight Express
I watched this review when it was new (haha! _rhyming!_ ), and I've not seen it since the early 2010's.
One of my favorite reviews. 😊
However, I do wonder if it would be possible to rerelease this video with better picture quality. 🤔
Every time they show a shot featuring the Talisman, I wanna call it the Loc-Nar.
Sonja's costume in the comic series is much, *much* more revealing. Literally all she wears is a chain mail metal bikini. Shame they didn't use that in the film.
fun film fact no one probably noticed.....
look at kalidor's sword, and Sonja's sword.... the hilt decorations are exactly the same. the only difference being Sonja's sword is shorter with a two handed pammel, and it has an extra guard in the shape of a moon, otherwise the exact same sword design.....
something no one notices until they watch on
DEATH111183 Pommel
+LaughingOwlKiller I like pammel better. >:)
But what about the sword helts?
Monroville they are almost mirror images of one another, only difference is Sonja's had that cresent moon guard between the blade and the hilt. but otherwise, most the etchings and carving decals are identical
Oh boy... I smell so many opportunities for YTP. And a hint of nostalgia as well.
There was a time when Nostalgia Critic didn't know about Avatar the Last Airbender! Oh my god things change sometimes!
I loved the Holy Grail reference: The Castle Anthrax
LOL
and then, "it's only a model..."
MunkeyChips Shhh!!
Wait why does Sonja hate men? It was a woman who fucked up her life while men who tried to protect her? WTF?
Cause the writers were either drunk off their ass or feminists.
Maybe because she was raped.
Anus Potatus Compaired to all the other horrible shit that has happened to her getting raped is honestly the least horrible.
Anus Potatus Raped by the order of a female who had molested her. Literally without the queen, none of this would have happened to her. It's retarded as fuck.
Joe The Amazing Camel Meh, I really don't care that much. It just seemed to me like the most obvious suggestion.
Oh shit, he did Uncle Iroh? :O
Yes.
+ChickenRamen For the first 2 seasons, yes. And they did an episode dedicated to him as well, loved that one
Leopold Litchenstein awww
+Leopold Litchenstein (SpongeBobfan1.5) which one was that?
Ionlymadethistoleavecoments I forget the name, but I know it was an episode that focused on several characters on the show having their own short stories
Ah I thought I recognized the voice for Splinter! It's Uncle/General Iroh!
did you notice that irohs voice changed between the 2nd and 3rd seasons?
Actually, no. Then again, it's been awhile since I've watched the show.
well as you probably have figured out , thats cause they had to replace him for the third season
Damn, yeah that wasn't hard to figure out. Rest in peace, that magnificent soul.
and actually, General Iroh (which we can call Iroh II or such), is actually voiced by Zuko's voice actor in Legend of Korra ^^
"WEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEheeeeeeeeeheeeeeeeeeeeee!!!!!"
Brigitte Nielsen really was a terrible actress......I just didnt noticed it in that movie because her dubing voice was way better than the original (Im from germany I only knew the synchonised version until now). That shows what influence on quality the voice is having.
+Benedict Cumberbatch Beautiful spelling there man.
Benedict Cumberbatch
- Assumes I go to church - Also "resting facial expression" isn't even a complete sentence.
+TOFKAS01 she also has that blank look on here face and sounds uninterested
+icecream hero She's good looking tho
RabbitGirl
Back in the days, yes.
Love how Doug said that he had never heard of Last Airbender but it's since become one of his favorite shows of all time (he said that show and Daria are his two favorites)
I like when he changed his tune on last air bender, he's totally in love with it now.

Haha! Brilliant.
Schwarzenegger commented, "It's the worst film I have ever made." He joked, "Now, when my kids get out of line, they're sent to their room and forced to watch Red Sonja ten times. I never have too much trouble with them."
I think the next punishment should be having to watch Last Action Hero... now that was bad
"I will eat you child! Tonight I dine on Chinese, raaarrghhhharrghhhargghh"
XD XD
Red Sonja was based on a comic written by the creator of the Conan the Barbarian comics
"Avatar the last airbender, (which I've never heard of)" OMG. IF ONLY HE KNEW!!!! (Plus its iro omg)
While it certainly is not either Conan the Barbarian or Conan the Destroyer; I enjoyed Red Sonja. It is bad but fun.
I was watching Pinocchio a few minutes ago and I bursted out laughing because I remembered this review. Thanks a lot.
6:37 That has got to be the best entrance in the history of movie entrances.
wait, he never heard of Avatar the last air bender, but has a top 11 best eps for the show? Did he like become a fan shortly after this review?
I think he either lied or watched it after this XD...in any case I dont think he did before doing the TMNT review due to the joke he made in the review u_u
NekoSoren He didn't look at the Avatar Series until after this review. Even though this review says it was posted on youtube on 2013, this was released on his website on 2009. I believe he reviewed Avatar after this, but before The Last Airbender movie. blip.tv/nostalgiacritic/last-airbender-vlog-the-boy-in-the-iceberg-6596629
No I mean because if what I know is right I think Mako actually died off from esophageal cancer not too long after finished making the voice for splinter in this movie
this was made before he watched avatar
He never heard mako in the series i quite sure he wouldn't go through all that trouble just to get Dante bosko if he didn't know about atla
