I'm Mexican, I was born in the 70's , I saw it a few hours ago in a teather and I'm still haunted by it. People clapped at the end. I cried.
as a Mazahuan I cried too. Just so sad because you know what happens next. The Mexican Middle class gets destroyed by the Neoliberals. How could the Indigenous people be treated like crud by foreigners who are foreigners to our COUNTRY?
It's people like FERMIN that have messed up our society.... I'm surprised Malinchism wasn't covered in the movie tho. YALITZAs character is US(nosotros los Mexicanos/Mexicanas) , and we have come to marginalize people like her in our society because TELEVISA ( Professor Zovek) had brainwashed us to detest our own people and our own language. It took me 5 years to learn English. I don't mind learning NAHAUTL,MAYAN or OTOMI again.
That touches my heart. I have to see the movie.
¡Wow! Yo tuve oportunidad de verla el jueves en los Pinos, una película bellísima.
I saw that movie a week ago and I can't stop thinking about it.. An amazing film!
I was born in South America in the 70s. Same thing here.
I've watched Rome recently, IT IS a MASTERPIECE, pure art, I left the theater feeling like a ton of bricks just fell on me and didn't know how to react. Because we are so accustomed to watch movies in a certain way (thanks to Hollywood) that when you really watch a piece of art that moves you, reaches deep in your soul and reminds you of your human existence you realized we all are looking for the same things, LOVE,ACCEPTENCE, RESPECT, JUSTICE, EXPERIENCE, LIFE !. ...... BRAVO!!!!... Roma deserves an Oscar 🏆🏆👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
Iv'e watch both Roma and Cold War and the better one is Cold War, Roma has a weak script, the first act is boring, is about nothing , no brilliance on it at all, overrated...BTW Hollywood paid for this movie, don't blame the studios for your poor judgement...
@@arturoa8754 actually Netflix paid for it.
No, it is not a masterpiece
I saw it too, it's not all that. It's obvious you just got carried away with all the sentimentalism and acclaim the movie is getting, but actually, it's a dissapointing movie.

Whats are you say about Roma?
From México. TIJUANA. Regards.
Paula Ruiz i thought it was a masterpiece one of the best films ive ever seen beautifully shot and crafted
Paula Ruiz i will do a review on my youtube channel soon
As a Mexican, the name Roma and that opening shot with the tile and soapy water, speaks volumes as to what the movie is going to be about. It's incredible what a director can accomplish with ONE single shot
I thought about the always handy bag of Roma soap at my grandma's house
We all Mexicans can relate to opening shot. Can't wait to see it.
eso no es necesariamente bueno, yo igual ya sabia de que trataba la película cunado vi la escena del principio, 10 minutos de una toma de un suelo, una reverenda cagada

He knows good film
I hope this movie wins...
-Best Movie
-Best Director
-Best Actress
-Bests Cinematography
-Best Sound Mix
-Best Origial Screenplay
This movie deserves these awards !!
I expect ROMA gets nominations in : Best Movie, best director, best actress, best cinematography, best editing, best sound, best sound editing, best art direction and Best Foreign Language Movie......
Original Screenplay too...
Haven't seen it yet.
Not sure about the screenplay.
Best sound design dude, that was the best sound i've ever heard
The sound design is incredible too
What I love about this movie aside from the gorgeous cinematography, writing, sound, and acting is that you forget it’s in black and white.
I could have sworn in retrospect that the movie was full of color, but no ... Honestly, I was kind of bummed by the black and white to begin with, seemed like typical art house wankery, but Cuaron was somehow able to make it colorful.
The movie is in black and white because of old Mexican movies, it creates an effect of nostalgia
BUMBED through the whole movie!! It sucked!!
Totally agree! I wasn't even bothered by the black & white, once the film started. I was engaged throughout the entire movie! BRILLIANT!
The story was bland and monotonous. Poorly written script.
I saw this movie last night and it was AMAZING!!!!! I cried sooooo muchhhhh!!!
poor little snowflake, did u watch it cuddling up to mommy?
me too
I want to see it!
Can't blame you.
He is 100% correct on every point. ROMA is the best film in YEARS. I hope they all win all awards. Yalitza is stunning as Cleo. STUNNING.
100% SUCKED!!
It’s undoubtedly a filmic masterpiece.
Such and elegant and informed movie review. Thank you
Adriana B. I agree ☝️
Yalitza Aparicio is one of the most beautiful actresses I have ever seen
Indigenous latinas #1 in the world
Omg thank you so much for saying that she is I am so proud to be where she is from oaxaca
There is no such thing as a native american latina she is of native background not latina mexico does not represent latin culture.
She really is beautiful. She was the star of this film.
Indígenas people not HISPANIC people because they have a language, religión, and diferent culture... THE HISPANOS SPEAK SPANISH, ARE CATHOLIC OR ATEIST, AGNOSTC AND THE CULTURE COME FROM SPAIN
Yalitza is full blooded Mixtec Indian (Nation of the Cloud) - sad, but in Mexico Indians are detested and disrciminated by the Mexican Mestizo society.
Such a great review for such an amazingly poignant sensitive graphically beautiful film. See this movie.
Is the entire movie in Spanish?
Agree with everything. It's glorious. Also, agree with the La La Land rating!
I saw it in NYC. It is a true masterpiece. Watch it!
Masterpiece???? NOT!!! I HATED this movie!!!!!
I just saw the film at a screening in my home town of auckland new zealand and it was a beautiful film im still taking it i will do a review here on youtube soon i feel it needs a review for me on here because i havent done one on here for a long time
I'm from México and I watched ROMA before it was released in the Netflix platform; that night I felt being a witness of a masterpice talking about my people (Im from Oaxaca, the place from where Yalitza is originary) and about my country and from my chilhood, I was in born in 1973. My heart was so inflated at that particular night...and for that, I thank Mr. Cuarón. Bravo!
Couldn't catch it in the theater but I saw it yesterday in a 87 inch 4K tv using headphones, I have no words to explain how much I liked this movie and how much mastery the director needs to command to be able to pull something like this off, it may be the most skillful movie I've seen. Yes, I admit I would never see it again, it's one of those "one's enough for the love of GOD no more still shots of water!!" kind of movies but at the same time I can't get the images out of my head. I hope it wins everything there is to be won.
+
Uff i watched it 3 times already. You have to watch it several times to find all the little easter eggs
The design of sound in this movie is amazing. I discovered from my own experience that using headphones elevated the appreciation. :)
Cuaron is doing an homage to the golden age of mexican cinema un the 50s, i believe thats why its b&w..
And an homage to Mexico
In the 80s my parents would take us to the drive in to watch rerun Mexican movies. Pedro Infante is unforgettable and timeless...
Alfonso G I seriously doubt cuaron used that movie as inspiration, there is music video of Luis Miguel, called "La media vuelta", its perfect, no computers or drones, made in 1994, every take is a work of art, just like this movie..
No.
He said it's not a nostalgic black and white, rather it's black and withe because that's how he remember things. 90% of what happens in the movie, is from his memory. Fun fact: The house in the movie it's his actual childhood house.
If you read ROMA backwards you can read AMOR (“love” in spanish)
Ok, bye, loved the movie
cyelºk mZBz point!
Good observation.
love the enthusiasm of the reviewer; honestly found the first half of the movie rather mundane and slow moving and then with the two events in the hospital delivery room and at the beach realized that the director had slowly manuevered me into really caring about cleo and reminding all of us of the nobility of these unsung heroes.
My childhood happened in Mexico City, had an indigenous nanny. This movie transported me. To be honest it's not my favorite movie, but it put a smile and a tear in my face. Worth it.
J. O. You had an indigenous nanny even though you look indigenous lol
@@abrahamgomez653 an indigenous with money though 😏
Post blue If you grew up in US and Latino it doenst matter if you have money. Nobody cares if you have money in US. In Mexico the people are pretensions. Some dont even have money and thet still have a nanny.
@@abrahamgomez653 what do you know? In Mexico there are the Spaniards, the Mestizos and the Indigenous people, and 70- 80% of the time the latter women work for the other two if they are middle to upper class. And it's common that most of the middle to upper classes have MAIDS I don't know why they want to call them "Nannies" that's BS that's not how they are seen over there or called. Live in maids, but never Nannies, they do Nannies' work but they are seen as maids servants and they only get Sundays off... Modern day slavery.
@@abrahamgomez653 How do you determine that he looks indigenous? His photo is not even on here.
An absolute timeless masterpiece, Cuarón is one of the greatest.
Every detail, every scene, the simplicity of the story, it made me feel I was there... It was an amazing film and I fell in love with every character, every scene was so well done that some times you forget to breathe and you get mad, you laugh, oh, what a beatiful movie.
Roma is a beautiful tribute to Mexico. It haunts you like completely, and even makes you forget that it's in B/W.
That scene where this old lady is dancing and accidentally makes Cleo's cup with pulque hits the ground is an undeniable wink to mexican superstitions. I mean, Cuaron even took the time to frame that!
It's a rendition to the simple things in life and of course to love and tragedies. Yalitza is SOBERB as Cleo! And as for Cuaron, a MASTER! I am so proud of him and so glad that he followed the "less is more" way. SO TRUE!
Smells like Oscar. People! You have to watch this movie. It's BEAUTIFUL!
What’s soberb? 😁
Nobody is born hating another person, our parents and society teach us everything.
Just saw this movie last night. The cinematography is so unique, it left me with the sensation of stepping into Mexico city in the 1970's. So proud to see Yalitza's performance!
La colonia ROMA so beatiful,an antique!
Maria M. Martinez yo quiero ir a roma!
Maybe next year
SUCKED!!!
I am so proud of Yalitza as a Mexican indigenous woman that's showing the world trough t.v interviews that even though the world may not think that she's very beautiful or a special human being she believed in herself. That she now knows that she's valuable, and with a bright smile on her face she is now more confident in herself. She's now a great remodel for people of all walks of life to follow. That even though people may not believe that you can be good at or can achieve something try it anyhow; and perhaps you'll succeed at it and do it well. I'm litteraly crying right now.
just hand Cuaron the golden globe and oscar, watched this movie in Toronto, not just the trailer. The film is in B&W and the photography and sound are just amazing. I know it'll be most familiar for those who grew up in large metro areas in Mexico or south america in the 70's and even 80's because of the multiple familiar sounds of these buzzy cities, but that aside, it's a great film with great acting and a very moving story line. Love the long takes where the actors tell the story instead of multiple takes that normally do that for films.
I was lucky to catch it in the theaters and definitively rewatching it on Netflix. Wow, what a movie!
He understood everything! Bravo amigo. Great and perfect review
I just watched it yesterday and in some parts is very touching and tender and also makes you think a lot. In some parts it takes time to understand and process some scenes that seem to be slow but in fact are essential scenes you just don't realize it in the moment. The takes of the lanscapes are immaculate, breath taking. It's as if this movie was made to teach cinematografy students how perfectly detail and take an artistic shot. If you are acustomed to Hollywood romance and action films you just won't get it, don't even bother.
Poetry wasn't made for the pigs.

The speech of this man is so emotional, I almost cry
I'm mexican and i didn't see the movie yet, I feel sad that in Mexico, movie theaters do not show the movie, only in a few cities and few cinemas. I'm waiting for the premiere on netflix
Is no only in Mexico is everywhere, a few cinemas in every country
I just watched Roma on Netflix, and I have no words to describe the feelings after it ended! The story is well told, with so many symbolism, great cinematography and impeccable acting. The sound effects are superb, the special effects so good, you can hardly notice them, but what is most impressive is the performance of Yalitza Aparicio!!!!! Even her name sounds so special.
Having lived in Oaxaca for a long time, I know they are hard working people, who are exposed to culture in their everyday life, and they are so proud of their heritage.
Definitely a movie I recommend.
Bad thing it is not being shown in movie theaters. It deserves to be seen by the big audiences.
A poem of movie
I was fascinated by how Cuaron was able to re-create the 1970s streets of Mexico City with the cars, posters, signs for the stores of that era, etc. The attention to detail was amazing.
What a glorious review! 100% agree on everything that was said about Roma. Top notch performance by all the actors and the direction of the movie, well I am left speechless to describe it.
I am a Criollo (european born in Mexico) and i so proud for the first time they put a native indigenous woman on the big screen 👌👍💗
Love the passion of the reviewer ... and he is absolutly right, the movie is stuning ... brilliant thats it
Tell this very enthusiastic man I Love him!
Giving Latin American filmmakers such recognition
*Mexican filmmakers. No Mexican will call themselves Latino. That’s a US thing.
I didn’t mean exclusively just towards Mexican filmmakers I’m talking about recognition of all parts of Latin America hence I used “Latin Filmmaker”
Mag G, that’s a VERY US thing.... come over here to South America and ask someone what they are.... “Latino” is NEVER gonna be their answer.
If you’ve met a “Latin” person self-referencing themselves as “Latino”- that’s because it’s just easier to say to an American person.
It is a US thing. The only time we may use it is when we refer to latin america as a whole. We usually just go by nationality.
Kimi G learn your roots we’re not “Latin American@
Es una película bellísima.
Wow, I'm so proud and touched by his review, as a Mexican who is really close to the story, for us is a common background, almost every grandmom, mom, has been into the Cleo situation, so thanks to all of them, and thanks to cinema that were able to capture such beautiful story.
What a fantastic review! Such passion. I just watched it here in my hometown Mexico City and it evoked powerful memories of this city where I grew up with my nanny Chabela, my own Cleo whom I loved dearly as a second mom. Alfonso Cuarón did it again! The cinematography is stellar and the choice of black and white fantastic. Loved it.
We no need a great visual effect to enjoy a good movie
Rick SDF-1 si tiene muchos efectos, la recreación de La Colonia Roma en la Ciudad de México en 1970/71 es impresionante
There are lots of special effects but they are hidden. I enjoy comercial cinema too. Thats what made me love cinema. Comercial movies.
I saw this on the big screen- its playing here in NYC, and I can tell you this review is on point. The film is a wave of emotions. It will split your heart in two and dare you to pick up the pieces.
After watching this movie a few weeks ago I still think about a few scenes when I wake up or just random times of the day. Makes you really emotionally attached.
I am dying yo see this one on theater. I just bought my ticket but it wont be presented until December 6.
Israel Borquez and the funds will be donated to the migrant caravan

Agree.
Sorry but La la land is better than Roma.
lalaland can't hold a candle to this emotional intimate masterpiece, Roma.
La La Land is very good, but it's got nothing on Roma
So funny. This movie is either super boring or a masterpiece. In my case I freaking love it, it is my favorite movie of the year and I strongly believe it deserves 4 academy awards: Best movie, best director, best cinematography and best editing

I agree totally with this critic’s opinion of Roma. Yes, six stars out of five. Stunning movie. But he gave the same rating to La La Land? LA LA LAND???? You’ve got to be kidding me. I couldn’t make it through the first 10 minutes of that movie .
I have not even watched the movie but I am crying already listening to something so real and about life.
One of the very greatest films of all time. Unforgettable. My jaw was to the floor the whole time.

Glad you said "Human Being" instead of "Indignant". I'm in Puerto Vallarta right now. It's a life changing big deal here. I can assure
This movie...that's all I can say. It brings so much emotion. The patio being washed, the music, everything about it so real. seventh starts * * * * * * *
This makes me think of my childhood. My aunt had an indigenous maid named Inez and that’s all I could think about this entire film. She had such a kind spirit. They did such an amazing job of captivating the essence of these household working women. I can still see her putting clothes on the line on the rooftop as I played. So much nostalgia it’s insane.
I watched Roma a few days ago. I was born in the 70s and it reminded me so much of my childhood. The songs that play in the movie as well. Especially hearing Leo Dan, the sing playing when she’s tiding up the bedrooms, brought many memories, one of my parents favorite.
Going to the movies on sundays with the whole family.
We had a living in maid in our house and I was so attached to her that when she left I cried and desperately missed her.
this review is amazing, this movie was astonishing, no its more than that, just wow im honestly speechless, extremely breathtaking.
AND he gave the Roma 6 stars, only movie along side La La Land, this dude really knows his stuff
Ojalá los Mexicanos habláramos con tanta pasión sobre esta película como este hombre. La película si merece todos los premios. No importa lo que hizo antes o lo que ara después Yalitza merece y tiene que ganar ese Oscar..
Beautiful, it’s an experience of pure art.
Cuaron, transformes your digital screen into a moving canvas.
What an amazing review. I’m Mexican and wish all Mexico could express like this guy about ROMA. I watched like a month ago, and i cried nonstop. Yalitza had something that I haven’t seen in any actress. She’s pure, humble and has the capacity to make you feel many things at once. 👌👍

Great Movie. The cinematography in each scene is amazing. It reminded me of my nannies and someone i knew that is still a nanny. Cleo character is amazing
The movie Roma touch me directly to my soul, I am also a
member of the Mexican middle class that had a Nani (Mi Nana) that I loved.
Maybe because of her love to me, I have been talking and writing against the
middle-class Mexican segregation against native mexicans. I touch the subject
in both of my published essays “Paisanos, Paisanitos & Americansitos” and
in “NAFTA is Here, Ra, Ra, Ra” and presently I have been writing directly about
the Mexican Middle-Class. I think that the movie Roma will change the Mexicans
perception of indigenous mexicans more than any writing about it. From now on,
when we mexicans discuss or talk about discrimination, the movie Roma will we
in the center of the discussion.
I saw the movie I LOVE IT BEAUTIFUL
