A 4-0 loss without giving up any hits is insane
In 1959, Pirates pitcher Harvey Haddix pitched 12 perfect innings against the Braves, then lost the perfect game, no-hitter, and the game in the 13th inning.
That's devestating!
Manfred runner means not only can you lose a perfect game, it’s possible for both pitchers to have a perfect game
One of the many reason I hate the ghost runner so much, all of the other rules that have been implemented in recent years I am in favor of but that one is just dumb, giving away unearned runs
Well it would be impossible for both pitchers to have a perfect game anyways since perfect game means no base runners means no runs means tie game meaning the game wouldn’t end. If would have to end with at least one pitcher losing the perfect game
Yes, I agree. With the pitch clock there’s really no need for it, since it was supposed to fix pace of play
@@gradyjones7017 Theoretically, both pitchers can carry a perfect game into the 9th and then continue into extra with a ghost runner on, who could score with a stolen base and a sac fly or fielder's choice advancing him - if it weren't for the ghost runner the fly/sacrifice would have just been another out and the run would have scored without the pitcher giving up a hit, walk, or having reached base on an error
it's not likely but its possible to lose a perfect game now
@@JasonThomasLionHeart doesn’t the runner count against a perfect game? Also I thought you were talking about both pitchers finishing with a perfect game, not going into extras
5:00 it's mid. Could've gone with Spiders. Not many arachnid based names in pro sports
For sure. Don’t mind the guardians, but they really missed a home run bringing back the spiders
There’s one in 2017 Dodgers @ Pirates, Rich Hill throwing a perfect game in 9 innings but the game is tied 0-0, in the 10th the Pirates won with a homer 1-0
You're forgetting about Logan Forsythe's error in the late innings making it a no hitter, but it was so cool when he went into the 10th of that game with only around 90 pitches.
Ive had multiple games in MLB23 where I throw a perfect game and have to go into extras, get pulled in like the 12th and the reliever ends up losing. I cant imagine how that would really feel.
I hate when that happens to me, I've gone DEEP into games, I think the furthest was 15 innings and got pulled. That feeling sucks! How does my cpu feel fatigue? Keep me in coach, my fingers are fine to keep pressing on lol
Starts with a definition of a no hitter needing to be at least 9 innings and then shows multiple instances where the losing team only pitched 8 innings
Using the definition was to acknowledge not all of these were gonna be “real” no-hitters
You’re wrong. He said a team throwing a no hitter has to bat 9 times.
@@RespectProcessYou're wrong. He said the team that batted 9 innings (not times) recorded no hits. It's not the team pitching.
@@webs0083ok you’re right
It is crazy that since the MLB changed some rules and definitions the number of no hitters where the team loses (and it counts) is so rare that you are more likely to see many other occurrences before this (as currently 2 have been counted both of them being from the 60's). The only things that are rarer than this is the Padres throwing a no hitter (1), a combined perfect game (0), and a perfect game where you lose (0 with the extra innings rule this is now possible).
Thought immediately of that Pirates - Reds game, that was a crazy game. When the Pirates and Reds combine the amount of tightwad ownership going into the squads playing reaches critical levels and crazy shit happens that really wouldn't in many other matchups. Not in any other of the big 4 leagues that have salary floors, especially.
The og fortnite music in the background !!
I still remember calling Chattanooga the “Chattanooga Looga” after the no hitter
The OG fortnite sound definitely adds to the video, love it:
I remember i was at that pirates reds game last year on my birthday too very special to me great video as always
In 5 of these games the pitcher didn't meet the definition of a no-hitter & in 2 of those they didn't even pitch a complete game.
another ELITE IcyVert video. LFG
I'm sure it's been done somewhere before, but I would love to see a list of pitchers who had a no-hitter or perfect game after 9+ innings, but lost the game in extras. Pedro Martinez comes to mind.
The Brewers just threw an 11 inning no hitter and lost like last month
Rich Hill was perfect for 9.1 innings
I kind of take issue with saying a pitcher "threw a no-hitter" when he was relieved late in the game. You can say he took part in a combined no-hitter or started a combined no-hitter, but to throw a no-hitter should also mean being the only pitcher that day.
To me, a combined no-hitter is very much watered down and much less of an accomplishment to said starter. For Weaver to say he doesn't really count it as throwing a no-hitter, to me I would assume he said that because he didn't pitch all 9 innings. In addition to not winning the game.
Do they not talk about the brewer yankee game from this year?
No, but we had started this video before that game was played and desperately hoped it would turn the 6 into 7
I was hoping they'd change the name back to the Cleveland Spiders
Guardians are an example of a good memorable rebrand and the commanders are an example of a bad one
Rockies got painfully close to this happening this year
It’s simple the batter gets on base by a walk or error then some crazy way he scored by error or wild pitch.
Amazing video but first 1minute all I could think ab was season 1 Fortnite
feeling nostalgic over here too
My final high school game second round of the playoffs we threw a no hitter and lost 1-0
Because of the ghost runner rule it is possible (highly unlikely) to lose a perfect game (most likely to be a combined perfect game since no pitcher now would go 10 innings). Because the runner on second is there because of the rule and didn't reach on hit, error, walk, HBP, etc. the pitcher(s) still has a perfect game. They could score in a few ways, maybe they steal third and score on a bad throw, or a sac bunt and then a sac fly, either way the pitcher(s) was perfect.
Stearns reigns supreme over all!🧡💙
Knowing that Seattle lost on a walkoff strikeout I don’t think anything can surprise me anymore
Two dropped fly balls and losing 4-0 pitching a no hitter is crazy stuff.
In mlb the show a guy threw a perfect game against me cuz I suck but I still won cuz of the extra inning runner I hunted him in
I was fully distracted for this whole video by the Fortnite lobby music
Only one team lost an official no hitter. Colt45
Bro the old fortnite song in the intro was a throw back like hell
Serious question: was this topic made for toddlers or adults who started watching baseball less than a week ago?
Bc a "fan" not being aware of how this can happen means they're not familiar w/ Fielding errors.
To start off, very cool video, it's the type of historic stats facts that don't matter but sure are interesting af. However...
..."in which a team that batted in at least nine complete innings recorded no hits."
So I don't mean to be that guy but according to the definition shown at the beginning these:
Hunter Green
Jered Weaver
Matt Young
Andy Hawkins
were not no-hitters as the team that got no-hitted did not complete 9 innings of batting since the winning team was playing at home there was no need for them to bat in the 9th making it so that they did not complete 9 innings of batting, only 8 of batting and 9 of pitching...
and the Ben Joyce/Rock city trash-pandas also wasn't because it was only 7 innings and MLB has even said that 7 inning no-hitters don't count with the Mad Bum no-no that did not count. (still pretty cool to include considering all the shenanigans that went of on that game)
Steve Barber's/Stu Miller's and Ken Johnson's were indeed no-hitters as the winning team was playing away, so they did batted all 9 innings and in fact only scoring on the ninth as said in the video.
But do find it odd that it is than pointed out that Ken Johnson is the only one recognized as throwing a no-hitter, cuz Steve Barber/Stu Miller was a combined one and that doesn't count to be considered "thrown a no-hitter", so I guess they were aware that the others weren't no-hitters, so I don't understand why include that part at the beginning...
How many games have at least 1 run scored for the losing team against a the team that won the no heater? 6 games that the team lost in the no heater. Like to see how many games won when both teams scored.
i remember one time when the astros 1 hit the mariners and lost
Can't imagine being Ken Johnson. 9 innings, complete game, no hits... Loss
'S
@StarkRavingSports Why is the 'Colt 45s' moniker absurd to you? Does the thought of guns trigger you that much?
I have a topic I think you should cover. The MLC..a CRICKET league in the US. If you cover this, you'll get tons of views. I only watched 5-6 games(out of 19) but cricket has 1.5 billion followers so this is a huge opportunity.
Rocket City Trash Pandas is my favorite team name ever
You know what you can't do, is lose a perfect game. Pitchers should just try harder and throw perfect games.
3 years ago from me writing this comment my 11u team lost on a no hitter
whats with the fortnite stw music 🤣🤣
Being the first no hitter lose and it counts gotta suck and be cool at the same time
1. The first three teams, as well as the White Sox, only batted 8 times, so they didn't meet the definition that you said at the start of the video
2. Jered Weaver by no means threw a no hitter. He only pitched 6 innings. His belief makes sense
I love that Cleveland changed their name, but I don't like the new one.
i think the guardians name is cool and i like the font on the jerseys. they handled it way better than the commanders did in the nfl.
There should be an inwritten rule into the no hitter definition that allowing a runner to score off of a wild pitch disqualifies you from achieving the no hitter. That's more of a sign than anything that a pitcher shouldn't even be out there.
The fortnite music
Good video except thinking naming a team after a gun is strange.
5:02 yes, because I’m not an asshole I do indeed like the new name. I wish Atlanta would do the same and change THEIR racist name
Bro is that fortnite music in the background?
Do not....I REPEAT... DO NOT FEEL SORRY FOR CALLING OUR CLEVELAND INDIANS THE INDIANS... THEY'LL ALWAYS BE THE TRIBE TO US AND CANT WAIT FOR THEM TO CHANGE THE NAME BACK... I'm a lyft driver in Cleveland and everyone I ask hates the name. They're named after a stupid BRIDGE OF ALL THINGS IN THIS BEAUTIFUL HELL MOUTH OF A CITY
The name change for Cleveland is terrible and worse for me who partially lives there and knows what and where the name is based off of
Idk why the “Indians” was even offensive. Is it because “Indians” wasn’t a historically an accurate? If so my solution would have been to change the logo to a guy in a turban and leave the name alone
lol fortnite music
All i have to say about the name chamge is this.
Whether you find it offensive or not.
Indian = india.
Do you see the problem?
You cant just call an entire nation and culture of people something they arent because some dude read a map wrong a long ass time ago
Its the 1400s and im setting sail to what i think is russia, and im coming from lets say..south America, and i land in Hawaii i get off the boat meet the native people and go "these are some big ass Russians"
And everyone just accepts that for like hundreds of years
That is a good point, and I agree with it, but I must raise you this:
Netherlands -> Dutch people
*Dutch* being a cognate of *Deutsch* (i.e. German)
So we effectively call people from the Netherlands German (they call themselves Nederlanders)
@@T_K7i didnt say it was an exclusive problem, or trying to qualify it over anything similar.
@@T_K7but yes i am aware of that, in fact lol austin powers of all things made me realize that
My wofe is full Native American and she thinks its stupid to change teams names away from Indian names. All her relatives feel the same way.
I guess its the woke white people that have the problem with it.
No, I don't like the name change. I think it's an awful name. I've never met anyone who was offended by the name. People seriously need to chill out and stop getting offended by things that don't bother the people that the names are supposed to offend.
