  • Video Recorded on March 17, 2021: Couple of fair notes: First thing’s first, sorry for not showing my Kone elevator keychain as my opening signature like I usually do since I didn't have it with me at that time when I took this video. And second, this video has no intentions for hating Kone as I’m showing this much more differently than in general. Although I do indeed dislike Kone, but I don’t severely hate Kone for that matter. But anyways, these elevators used to be Otis with Lexan fixtures supposedly until Kone modernized them with KSS 500 fixtures 10 years ago when the building was renovated. This mod has definitely left to be desired. Some of the buttons on the COP had already been replaced! Which was the main purpose of earning the butchered title. On the right elevator car, the floor buttons were replaced with KSS 370 with a broken "DOOR HOLD" button contact. But that's not all though, they even replaced the button for LL with a newer KSS 570 button peace not too long ago. But the lower portion of the buttons (e.g.: "DOOR OPEN", "DOOR CLOSE", "ALARM", "CALL FOR HELP", etc.) are still original KSS 500 from the first mod. I was so shocked seeing the replacement like this! That probably was why Kone elevators were made cheap, which proves that the new fixtures aren't built to last. However, the COP for the left elevator car were untouched and still holding up well except for the broken contact of the "DOOR OPEN" button. Kamden (‪@TheElevatorandAirplaneFinder‬) experienced something similar of a Kone EcoDisc MRL elevator with KSS 500 fixtures with some of the buttons replaced with KSS 140. Couldn't help but laugh at it. I honestly don't know who to blame for this, but I do NOT blame Kone for needing to replace broken buttons. I do wish these elevators were modded in the first place. Good thing is that they both run well. Also, I do plan on doing a better take on all the elevators here at the MSC the next time I'm back here again as I've already finished filming better takes on almost all of my favorite elevators that are old and better built all across Texas A&M University unlike these ones shown here. Hope y'all enjoy! Installed in 1972, modernized in 2012.

If you thought that was bad, the Kone elevator at McCain Mall, now that has a mix of KSS 500 and 140 buttons. Plus they changed the voice.

I don’t know if I necessarily say this modernization is bad, but they did show a proven sign of already wearing out quickly enough over the course of years since modernization.

The LL button is actually not KSS 140, that is a KSS 570 button, a new verison of the KSS 500.

I actually meant to say 570! Do apologize for the mistake.

    Kone from 2012
Gets modded to 1960s Lexan. Wouldn’t this be the better way?

Oh yeah… I remember visiting the Residence Inn in Cincinnati, OH. They had those Kone KSS 500s but replaced with 140… haha.
But again, I don’t hate Kone at all, they’re definitely a good company, but they should probably make some changes to their vandal resistant buttons.

It’s a shame they have modernised it, but it’s still pretty nice. At least they chose KONE for the job

If this Kone start to have major problems, this should be modernized again with Otis series M2
