Unpopular opinion: I always feel like the fandom is way too harsh on Jerry. They treat him like he’s the worst human being on the show when that’s far from true. I mean you got Beth, a sociopath that lets her daddy issues get in the way of being a good parent (no hate lol). Yet she doesn’t get half the bashing Jerry gets. Despite being spineless and self pitying, Jerry is still a loving father and is probably the most “normal” member of the Smith family. That honestly makes him a breath of fresh air for me whenever he’s on screen. And admit it, we’ve ALL had Jerry moments ourselves.

anyone who thinks they're a Rick is most probably a Jerry
Jerry was basically created by Chris Parnell. Harmon said in an interview that Jerry was going to be a straight guy but Chris showed them what he needed to be in the pilot. He brought the whine and the insecurity to the character.
Parnell is an insanely underrated actor/voice actor. Jerry would be a totally one not character without what Parnell brings to the table.

The thing is - without the modern conveniences of today's society - Jerry is actually a badass. The problem is he's almost never given any opportunity to fulfill the role as a "protector" because the world he inhabits is relatively safe and convenient.

The fact is that even though he gets his lines right, he still has to do retakes because it's mandatory to do so.

Funnily enough - Jerry is probably the only enemy that Rick wasnt able to defeat no matter what he did. It is heavily implied that Rick's disdain for time travel comes from his failed attempts to get rid of Jerry and preventing him and Beth from getting together. So in a sense Jerry succeded in beating a self proclaimed god (with skills to back it up), which is kinda badass when you think about it.
Quite the contrary. Rick made sure Jerry dates beth in every reality so there is a Morty he can go have fun with
His disdain for time travel could be from failing to save his wife, which is a more personal concern of Rick
also tbf, i dont see beth marrying and staying with anyone else. Jerry is the only one who can keep her grounded and sane imo

I think the joke is that he's hated because he's the most normal out of the family.
It's basically the Squidward thing again. When we were little we thought it was funny seeing him fail and Spongebob succeed, and when we got older we realized we are Squidward. We are Jerry.

the entire show is based on the fact that each one in the family have his own chaotic nature creating this chaotic family trying not to fall apart.
*Jerry* normally thinks about himself or as rick said" uses pitty to lewer his victims" and is being controled by his own fear, insecurity and stupidity.
*Beth* is a Drunk with abandonment issues who also been a very unstable and creepy kid.
*Summer* basiclly struggles with the fact she was an accident and the rest is teenage girls struggles and also doing drugs. if anything shes the closest to normal.
*Morty* also struggles with the same parenting issues as summer and also carrys the negative side of being Ricks companion which as we see developed his character more and more but at the cost of a normal childhood (Evil morty is an example for what a morty can become under ricks shadow)

Jerry ise one of the most important characters in the show, while he might be pathetic he had shown that he is willing to help in the most crazy adventures.
Also, while he represents what we all fear to be, especially for Morty, he also represents what Rick could have ironically enjoyed becoming like had he had the chance.

I like how this video was edited. There was care and attention to make each flip flow into the next one way or the other.
I love that Gerry is getting a little more respect this season in terms of who he could become in an apocalypse but also the confidence and experience the Gerry we have seen has has gained although he is still himself he’s definitely a lot more confident this season and I do like that direction I don’t fully agree with screen rants opinion that he’s the new Morty but I would be cool with something like that being the case in terms of how Rick treats Gerry in terms of how he used to treat more tea he is nicer to the family but still very traumatic for Gerry when they go on adventures and I’ve noticed Rick hasn’t drunk much this season I think that’s because he’s focused on fighting with the crime so I’m looking forward to seeing his offscreen efforts at the End of the season
