Seeing bands there, I always thought the place was big. Seeing the empty space since it was knocked down, I realised how small it actually was. Playroom thank you for the memories ❤. Australia Crawl, thank you for the music 🎶 🎵

I used to have this on cassette, taped when it was broadcast by 2JJJ. If I remember correctly, it was 2JJJ's test transmission about a week before they switched from Double J. It was the soundtrack to many road trips until I lost the cassette years ago. Been depressed ever since. But THIS is going straight to the pool room! Even if it is only mono.

Brad's playing at the beginning of 'The Night' just sent me somewhere else! (And what a brilliant crossfade, they don't do them like that anymore! Camera man knew what he was doing!) It was so simple sounding - but could have opened any 90s rock/alternative song. I think he may have been ahead of his time... even some of Simon's playing carried that future quality.

The show has great audio thanks to EON FM. Why does James Reyne sound exactly like Jaime Robbie Reyne of the band Rushcutter? I think that the drummer is Bill McDonough, but I don't see his brother Guy in the band. Guy was still alive back then because Simon Binks told me many years ago that Guy McDonough was one of the band members who voted to sack own brother Bill McDonough from the band.

I have read that he wasn't part of the band for the Boys Light Up album, though he did write Downhearted, with Sean Higgins and his brother Bill. Spiff Rouch split -> The Flatheads & Clutch Cargo, later called Australian Crawl. He's not listed as playing on the first album. But, like Abraham Lincoln wrote: "Don't believe everything you see on the internet."

The stage looks too small for The Playroom imo.

It's after atleast June 1984 when co vocalist and guitarist Guy McDonough died. If you see they didn't play error or oh no not you again as they were songs which he was the lead singer on. More than likely this is from 85

Late reply, but 4MMM didn't start broadcasting till August 22, 1980 so it's after that. 4MMM started calling themselves FM104 in 83 so it's clearly before that. Judging by the playlist - lot's of Sons of Beaches tracks in there and no sign of Reckless yet (1983). Must be '82 i reckon.
I remember Australian Crawl being billed at the Playroom in Tallbudgera on the Gold Coast when i was there on a camp as a kid around 81 or 82. Might be that gig.

What was the name of the woman who owned the playroom? From memory, she was strict on playing times, would fine the band for going on late, or finishing too early. I keep thinking of the name Beryl, was that her name??????
