    Great video. I had a problem shifting into neutral and had no idea that I was bottomed out on my foot rest until I watched this video. Made the adjustment. BAM! Everything works great. Thanks bro. You kick ass.

    Thanks, man! I was having issues with shifting and was because the bike had oversized grips, got some slimmer ones and now it shifts so easy! I've wouldn't notice if wasn't for this video!

    Thank you so much for idea!
    I've spent around 18 hours at workshops. Jumping from one shop to another. Finally i found what had been causing the nuisance. The lever apparently had been touching the exhaust pipe and it wouldn't shift to first.
    Now i can sleep at peace.

    Thanks! I was having issues finding neutral on a ‘98 Dyna I just got and it had leather oversized grips and a leather cover on the clutch lever.

    Number one place i would look at if my harley was hard to find neutral on should be the primary chain tensioner. If the chain is too tight it will be hard to find neutral.

    It no longer matters. The HD motor company can not just lower prices. We now have access to Harley corporate balance sheets. This motor company in the red by almost 500 million. They are forced to sell bikes with substandard parts, just to generate the "shop-income" in some veil attempt to service some of these loans. This company in such a death spiral, is now only a matter of time before the banks start calling them in on some of these loans.........

    My 2007 sportster will not shift into 3,4,or 5. I do have first , neutral and second . Please help . I bought it this way

    No problem finding neutral, having issues with sticking shifter. No "return" when shifting.

      pahuanui ...Did you find the problem? There’s a “return” spring inside the Primary case. On my 05 Sportster it’s a “rabbit-eared” style spring located behind the shift lever.

    Hey Bob, love your work & have your videos for my model an 04 1200C.
    My neutral light stopped working directly after I did a fluids service, engine oil & filter & primary fluid. I have never had an issue with it before this. Any ideas?

      We appreciate the kind words.
      The indicator bulbs on your year Sportster are very small. The contacts within the sockets are small and delicate.
      It is not uncommon to have a weak contact due to the aging rubber socket that holds the bulb.
      Suggest looking there 1st.
      Once the bulb is removed, you can use your test light to check for power and ground.
      If you have no ground, the issue is at the switch. It has either come unplugged, or needs to be replaced.

    Very nice video. Great explanation.. Accidentally I shifted once from N to 1 WITHOUT clutch on my HD, the most misterious thing is the gear box did not grind or else, and it was pretty smooth (not as smooth as it used to be when the engine is hot and obviously you use the cluctch, but similar like the first time you shift to 1 gear in cold) How could it be?

    Great information and I have a question. I have a 2020 Harley heritage classic. Its difficult finding Neutral when the bike is in idle however, when im riding and wanting to change gears from 1st to 2nd, it goes into neutral.

    Hello sir. Great video. thank you!! my bike is a 89 sportster 883. I wonder if you can help me. I started having this issue today. Having problems going into neutral. And also once in first gear and I start moving the acceleration becomes rough and bike starts to chock up as if it once to shut off. This same issue continues through out the other higher gears. I adjusted my clutch several times recently. Will this be an issue cause by poor clutch adjustment or a fuel deliverie issue??? Kindly advice me please. Thank

      We don't know who's forward control kit you have, but you should
      assemble and operate it as intended by the manufacturer. If part of the
      assembly has been compromised, we suggest replacement or repair of that
      component.

    I can shift up easily..... once I'm in 5th gear.....i can only shift back down into 4th gear. Once I try to shift down to 3rd,2nd etc its like a dead shifter. There's no spring back to it. I have to shift into 4th, gently lift up on the shifter without shifting up in order to be able to shift down. I have to do this each and every time. I have a 2010 sportster forty eight. What should I do?

    I’m having grinding issues into first gear. I adjusted clutch and cable accordingly. Maybe new clutch needed or is cable stretched out? 18k miles on 92 Heritage.

      Hi Robert,
      Start by performing a clutch adjustment.
      If finding neutral is easy with the m/c not running. You will find that your issue is in the drive.
      Inspect your clutches, clutch hub, clutch hub bearing & basket.

    All of your videos are great man. I'm having issues with my 03 softail springer. I just replaced the stock clutch plates with the rekluse torqdrive manual clutch plates. I adjusted the adjuster screw per the service manual as well as the clutch cable. My lever movement is fine as well. It's very difficult to find neutral and whenever i shift it when i'm stationary it almost clunks. When i ride it shifts fine. Is it just a matter of breaking the new plates in? thanks for any info

      Raymond, what you describe sounds like you are not getting good disengagement within your clutch pack.
      Without adjusting your cable, turn your clutch adjusting rod IN another 1/4 turn.
      See if that helps.
      Make sure that all of your steel plates are completely flat.
      Verify that none of your clutch plates are hanging up in the basket.

      Hello Larry,
      Try to straighten the shift rod if possible.
      If you experience any binding, you may have to replace.
      There are a lot of poor quality fwd ctrl kits out there. Drag Specialties usually offers a decent kit at a fair price.

      It can be that you are due for clutch replacement.
      Also can be a bad throw out bearing.
      Best to start by disassembling the clutch pack for inspection.

    I have a 2015 HD seventy two and recently when down shifting it dosent want to go in gear all the time i have to shift up and then back down to correct this problem the bike has 5k on it ive owned it for a year now nothing changed on the bike so what could be causing this

      Hi Brian! We suggest starting with a simple clutch adjustment.
      Also, you can raise the rear wheel with a flat jack (bike not running) & shift through all gears. See how it feels. If it feels ok, the issue may be in the clutch or primary drive.

      If your fuel valve needs replacement, we suggest a Golan fuel valve or a OE factory replacement.

      If you can shift through gears without issue when the m/c is not running; The problem will, most commonly, be found in the primary drive/clutch assembly.We suggest you begin with disassembly & inspection of your primary drive.

      FixMyHogfreechannel so i can run through the gears when the bikes not running but once it’s on it will go through the gears just fine, except when I’m at a stop and try to click it up to neutral. Doesn’t seem to be binding from what I can see. What might be the issue there?

    hey, I dropped my bike going about 90. I got 1 N 2 and 3 but won't go into 4 or 5. any advice on what I did? it's a 02 Sportster 1200

      FixMyHogfreechannel I’m trying to get my inspection cover off using a 4mm allen. The bolts seem soft and very tight. Any idea where I can find better bolts if I have to resort to a Dremel slit? It’s a 04 1200. Thanks
