That thing looks badass for a '99
Party like its 1999!
Agree
Looks bettee that most modern bikes. Amazing design
Trippy_g00n it was $25k give or take too! Damn ! My bad $32k wow
the 90's were sportbike golden age
I never knew this thing existed. Thanks for the knowledge. Keep up the good work. Love the videos!
The rarest yamaha R pictured next to the rarest honda CBR
Time stamp?
@AuraLiveWax 23 units? Holy shit
Is it just me or are the 7 class just perfection? Loved my ZX7, I love my GSXR750. I've owned/ rode larger and smaller. Rev characteristics and power to weight ratio make for a overall well balanced machine! Good for a day of carving canyons, a day at the track, or the daily commute.
yup 750's are a good balance between a middle class and a liter bike
Doc Moto love your Gixxer because Suzuki will no longer produce the GSX-R 750
my neighbor had one ,and it is the one and only r7 in my country, lucky
Chat shit
Of All the Things That Never Happened, This is the one that Never Happened the most
Nope I can believe them, guy down the road from me (uk) had one never knew it was this rare
why people take it so serious on internet ?
it's something that you can't even know if it's true or not
if this man lie or not i think it's not the most critical thing to discuss afterall :P
@BLACKLIST 원터치 he meant HE didn't know it was rare, not the owner.
I've always loved the looks of the R7. It looks a bit more muscular than the R1 and R6. The front end is classy and understated.
I do love the looks of many bikes from the 750cc four/1000cc twin era of superbike racing, but the R7 just may be the prettiest of all.
People used to swap the R7 engines for R1 engines 160+ bhp with no worries about the crank. Beautiful and rare bikes.
HeroRR, you have become one of my favorite channels on CZcams. Not that it matters. Thanks for the very enjoyable content. Most channels are about the channel owner. I.E. *hey, look at me.* keep up the great work and thank you again.
Absolutely spot on! Couldn't agree with you more!
Oh wow. Something ive never heard of before. Im liking thia.
Hugh Jaanus this* it happens to me every time
I feel ashamed to call myself a Yamaha Fan Boy.....Didn't know this gem of a bike even existed.
Great vidoe bro....thanks for the info
Same here mate😢
Hahaha...I'm a die hard fan too, but I do know much...It's okay. We needed to start somewhere, right?
Check out noriyuki Haga racing this bike in WSBK.
@@cranky1812 definitely
Do not be ashamed dude, this bike was dud, and definitely not a gem. The first gen R1 was a gem though.
I remember when this bike came out. At the time I was building my gixer 7/11 and riding one of my cr500's at towercity.
Brought back memories, thanks.
I can still hear Haga's R7 shrieking around Laguna Seca about 2000rpms higher than the other inline 4s. He rode the hell out of that bike both races, definitely made an impression. Shame he couldn't win the whole thing.
The R7 is a piece of art. Subbed.
i was about it read it as "shit"
.
btw this bike is gorgeous 😍
@@itsdudewithacamera 😂😂
Steven looks the exact same as r6
Seen one and sat on it . Several years ago my mate used to deliver special motorbikes to collectors ,on his way he called round to show it me .zero miles and perfect
In 2005 one of my friends bought one and told me this is an R7. i never believed him cuz we have never heard of something like that
I remember they used to make R7 rep bodywork for the R1,
Perfect bike really, R7 looks with reliability and the power of a 1000cc engine
When I went to MMI in Orlando almost a decade ago, the Yamaha elective had an R7, it blew me away that one was there, at first I assumed it wasn't an actual R7. Most people that I went to school with there didn't even understand what it was or why I was geeking out, their comments were something like "it's a 750 sport bike, so what, just an r6 with 150cc more displacement". You'd assume that people going to school to work in the motorcycle industry, especially taking a Yamaha specific class would have heard of the R7 or atleast see the trick bits on it and realize it was something much more special. Sad.
So, not sure if it's still there, I've heard it was there for years before that, so it is definitely possible they still have it and work on it in the Yamaha electives. The school in my opinion is a rip off even with military education benefits, I feel like they really take advantage of service members to make an easy profit, so I'm not suggesting going to it, but definitely take a tour if in the area to see an R7. Easy, free way to check out an R7 if they still have the bike.
Mikkalangelo F so tell me, did they teach shit you already knew? I’ve worked on bikes for almost 40 years and worked at shops side by side with MMI grads and they didn’t impress
That bike was there when I attended in 2004. MMI students had a poor rep among Central Florida motorcycle shops back then and it looks like nothing has changed.
I love this bike. I was even allowed to sit on one at a stand at the NEC motorcycle show in England back in 2014.
I was crushingly disappointed with the release of the new R7. I was hoping for a modern version of this that would compete directly with the GSX-R750.
your history videos are the best. of my few "bell iconed" channels on yt. can't wait for the next one.
Thank you!!
Just yesterday I had the opportunity to see one on display at a Yamaha dealership in Portugal Guimarães, it is a very beautiful bike without a shadow of a doubt.
It had titanium connecting rods not a titanium crankshaft
Not not both?!??!?!
@@TheRealMrRoboto nah not both, a titanium crankshaft would have to be larger than a standard one (in mass) to be as strong unfortunately. The elastic modulus (how much force [psi] needs to be put into something before it bends/breaks) Aluminium is ~9m PSI at "engine running temperatures", Titanium is ~15.5m psi, whereas the majority of forged cranks are made from medium-carbon-steel alloys, which have an elasticity of ~28m psi.
It's about finding the balance between size, weight, strength and cost with the majority of parts, and alloys tend to win out when factoring weight gains etc against the cost.
@@the_mad_ratter Thats what i thought!
I have never seen one in real life. I was in love with this bike when Haga was rear wheel stearing his WSB version all over the place!!! I remember at the time reading that it cost £22.5k to buy one of the 500 for on the road. It has been my favourite bike since forever.
"It is rare to even see one, sit on it or ride it" looks at my countrys craiglist: one for sale (track one and a street legal one) lol
What country are you in?
@@johnjacob688 netherlands
Joy Buning buy them both!
@@mathiasnkristensen if i would have the money and the license i would
I saw one for sale like 21k€ in my country, would have bought if i had the money.
I've seen one of these about 8 years ago in Connecticut. I had an R6s at the time. Beautiful bike.
20 years old design!? This amazing looking bike puts many modern but bad looking and strange designs to shame.
when i lived out in arizona ..i got a chance to see one at a bike night in scottsdale ...one of the most beautiful bikes that has been produced til this day
Seen those several in UK, we have more than 10 that's for sure, been sitting one of them at one of the dealers in UK it was for sale in immaculate condition for £40k
Those graphics on the side you like so much are a nod to the late 80's FZ700 and FZ600 which are, along with the FZR series, the predecessors of the modern R6 and R1.
Haga made me become a Yamaha fan boy :-) love watching the samurai of slide on the R7
NitroNori👍🏼
When this bike ''came out'' I was a junior in high school & I remember it. It was my dream bike & I do remember wondering why I'd only seen it in mags & later heard it was only a race bike or you must have a racing license to get one or something to that effect. It was mythical. I think it was in an issue of cycle world with a Laverda 750cc bike. I too think its one of the worlds most beautiful bikes.
I’ve only ever seen one and it was at a bike meet coming off of a trailer
Seen 1 of these at a track event here in RSA (Cape Town) about 3 years ago. The bike sat "cool" the whole day, drawing crowds. Beautiful bike up close! Great vid.. Thanks.
"South Africa" Only heard it now. lol
You have good taste in motorcycles I love KTMs
Best looking Yamaha ever made, even to this day. They could relaunch this just as is, with the reliability fixed, and I would be first in line at stores to get one. The only thing I'd add would be smaller dual side exhausts, I think that would really compliment the looks of this bike in its classic yet timeless aesthetics.
Just realized I've been watching your videos on here for like a year, also have a vfr and even chatted with you on Facebook when you joined the vfr group and never subscribed to you . Totally sorry bro! Love your videos and what you do and how you educate!
I picked up one of these 3 years ago for just under $6,000. She’s mostly a garage queen now
Really? I’d love to see some pics! Email me at theherorr@gmail.com
I remember when they came out. Ben Affleck got one, despite not qualifying with Yamahas racer requirements.
Being that they made a yamaha yfz750r from 93-98 it made sense for them to make an updated 750 bike. Kawasaki and Suzuki were making the 750 during those years although honda wasnt. And now just suzuki still producing the gsxr750. The r7 definelty looks great and too bad they had a recall requiring the motor to be opened up. I'm sure took away some value for collectors but would still be super rare to ever see one. Few have popped up in recent years, believe one had an asking price of 22k. Gotta love the rare bikes, some more rare than others.
been here since 9k, keep it up with the quality videos mann
They look so good. I can still clearly remember the Cycle World cover with the debut.
I knew that the R7 existed but I have never seen one like ever
I worked at Wilson's Motorcycles in Fresno Ca. back then and had the opportunity to ride a stock (unrestricted) R7 as well as one with the factory race kit that made 155 rwhp on our dyno. I do believe the crank issue had more to do with the crank bearing material that was not correct. We did around 10 "updates" but it was just bearing unless there was damage to the crank or rods but none of the bikes we did had any issues. Still an amazing bike to ride but nothing like a Ducati SPS of the same time period.
There is one for sale in the Netherlands for €29000

Back in the day I settled for a YZF750r and had it painted up as a Nori Haga R7 race rep. Was close enough for me despite being a big old bus in comparison to the real thing.
I swear to god i have seen this bike , near san clemente ,near los angeles , and that day i was riding the The fat bob , and this bike just slipped pass through me ,
If u can do research try to find if someone near that area have seen or know about the owner.....
I am not a local soo idk much about the place....
Later on when i saw it parked near the beach i didnt know that this bike was so rare holy shit....
I remember 0W01 bikes for sale on the used market at affordable prices, if you had a good job. I was still an undergrad at the time so it was nothing more than a dream. I would love to see an 02 sometime, what a magnificent machine!
6:43, didn't realise it was gamaha xD still enjoy the vids though!
Titanium con rods not crank.... They did have crank problems too and the works WSB bikes used a crank made by a company in the UK called DKE which was designed to remove some of the flexing issues. The R7 only won one national/international title in the German Pro Superbike series. The bike Haga rode in 2000 used the DKE crankshafts and DKE only made about 15 of those cranks. I was the guy behind the DKE cranks and the engines also ran the Yamaha R1 oil pump to try and help improve the crank issues which were only cured with a combination of using special "KIT" crankshaft bearing or modified Kawasaki bearings and the DKE crank.
the only one Ive ever seen is on display at the Barber Museum in Leeds Alabama
The original r7 is such a beautiful bike I've only seen them in pictures and a couple times in videos.
One for sale in Italy right now - 65,000 Euro ;)
My father had a '86 FZ750 with full race lowering and many many modifications, mind you he turned down a job as head engine builder for Kawasaki Racing North America a few years later, and yes he owed a R7 rode both but only babied the R7, he said he was slowing down, after owning a few Hayabusa's and bought a Harley.. gave up on it's stock suspension and pretty sure it has a custom Bilstein setup for corning :D never did get to ride his fully custom Busa, he said I'd scratch the clutch.
I love these history videos... Great job
My step father had one of these. Sat in our Dining Room for over a decade. Didn't know the significance of it at the time and didn't really care. Still don't care.
One of the plates on the fuel tank was signed by Haga if I remember correctly.
Please do more RC51 videos
Yes once the weather gets better!
My neighbor had a cool looking bike and I saw the r7 thingy. And decided to CZcams it. It’s all black with red rims. This is sick!
Hero is consistently releasing some of the best high quality informative videos on CZcams right now, not just in the motorcycle scene. Keep it up🤙🏻🤙🏻
Thank you! :)
Got 2 one for track and the other for sundays.Handbuilt and not for sale ever. And yes both were recalled and fixed.Heaven is an R7 .
Been subscribed since you had 10k subs. One of the best motorcycle content on CZcams! Keep it up
Thank you!
Since I saw an R7, I subscribed. It's just something not really tackled by anyone nowadays! They say that '750s are crap' but back in the 80s and 90s, they're the absolute pinnacle of motorcycles. Let alone the YZF-R7 was the final 750 class sportbike that had a class of it's own. Well, it may have not won the title that favored V4s or such, but it's the most specialized motorcycle Yamaha had ever produced.
You do make some good videos bro don’t sub to to many people but would be glad to help u meet ur goal ride safe brotha! And keep up the great content.
Thank you!
I got recommended this when yamaha R7 gets introduced
“Limited time offer” 😆
Saw one in person at Daytona in 2001. Thee was a guy on one of the R1 forums several years ago who was able to purchase one. They truly are stunning bikes.
that background music though 🤦♂️🤦♂️
Worked for Yamaha Europe from 1986 until 2001, Touched every 99 R7 that went to the EU market.
Yamaha r7 was nicknamed the arse heaven. LoL
My Dad had an 0w 02 when they were hot. He crashed in at Castle Coome race track in England. Also Rex Jusd motorcycle shop in Edware north london, had an 0w02 on their wall when I did my bike test training there in maybe 2005. Awesome bikes absolutely amazing, but in my heart they dont touch the Hondas :)
Great job on the video man love your content. But can you make a possible GSXR history video :)
I second that thought! 🤘
This has been my dream bike for years, along with the Ninja ZX7R
Tyler Lawler ZX7R and ZX9R are incredible bikes along with the R7. Most people are completely unaware these where made. I’d own any of the three and more than Likely have it on a tender and admire its beauty.
Me watching this in 2022 when yamaha is selling the r7
the crossplane twin sucks bro like give it a inline 4
It's amazing how many people didn't know this bike existed, there was one on display at the carol nash mcn festival in Peterborough last year it's a hell of a machine.
There’s one for sale in my city
The Yamaha R7 and the Foggy Petronas FP-1 was my favorite bikes of that era. I actually got a chance to see one at Barber Vintage Motorsports Museum in Birmingham Alabama. It is an impressive machine
Love all of your videos and just like this
Design looks way ahead of its time. Wow.
Yo man love your vids. No drama but really really informative which is rare nowadays.
Thank you! :)
@@HeroRR You're welcome man. Dude which do you think is the best beginners bike in 2019.
I like the 98/99 fzr 600 (standard bikes in the crazy 88s Meetup used in kill bill vol.2, )it strikes the same chord as this 7 does for you.
Those crankshafts looked like connecting rods to me. Just saying.
No those were connecting cranks lol
@@billrudolph8185 lmao
Sooo did the crank actually fail and he was showing us the wrong thing (faied conrods), or did the conrods fail and he said the wrong thing?
@@b1akjak yeah the connecting rods failed and he just said the crankshaft evidently he's not a mechanic LOL
If you are in Birmingham, AL, there's an R7 sitting in the Barber Motorsports Museum for you to see (but not touch).
why can't they just re-make it!? 😭 basically a 600cc with more mid-range, plenty of real world power and just a small bit of extra weight. the only choice now for 750 is a GSX-R... 😕
You can choose mv agusta f3 800,,😂😂
@@yosephrahul7398 i need more shekels to acquire that ride 😅
@@taterc229 its gonna need more patient i guess..haha
Was ony made for homogolation purposes...superbike rules capped the limit for 4cyl bikes at 750 cc
Cheaper and more reliable to just get a ninja 636
Remember seeing this bike in the web a while ago... it’s beautiful, looks similiar to the 07 zx6r
Yup I was just thinking the same thing I have a 03 r6 and just picked up and super clean low miles 07 zx6r and it’s a beast I love the way the projector headlights look on both of the bikes. Much better than the new versions in my opinions and just at fast
not so rare..I just went and googled it..found a few for sale already in about 10 seconds....about 25 grand for one with only 2,000 miles on it.
Two on sale in the UK on eBay
ya, I normally do a quick google on something ,BEFORE I post a comment..just found 4 more for sale lowest at 14,000...I think maybe the uploader of this should have done a guick google also before stating "this is sooooooo rare and you will never see one". unsubscribe this moron
Hi bro, I saw one in the showroom. Can't remember when but she was new. You would be blown away at the looks, especially the paint scheme. They probably look 80% better in real life due to the more three dimensional appearance. And I don't remember the headlights looking tame but I didn't pick that when admiring her for quite a while. So that's another in person detail that the camera doesn't capture. Also the matte black was stunning, like no other matte black I've seen. Writing this brought me back and I think you'll agree when you see it in person, Yamaha wanted this to be a statement, classic in years to come and a piece of eye candy for the detail searching appreciator (not a real word but it should be) of things lovingly created. Thanks for the video bro, from Australia :-) God bless.
Just buy an R6 and a sticker to cover the 6 with a 7.
It looks like a R1 and R6 mix
Absolute beauty. YART Yamaha team mechanic said last year in a interview that this is still his most beloved Bike.
Mine is the 1999 R6,looks similar. I wish I had R7 instead. 🙂
I have a 2K R6 and I often wonder what it would be like to ride the mighty R7.
I was fortunate to see one displayed at Deal's Gap and talk with the owner, who was a cool cat that explained the bike to me.
Found 3 on eBay for about 20,000 pounds. Rare?
In 98 I owned one of the first r1s in the states and was very tempted by the Harris companies R7 bodywork kit to make it look Ike an R7. Wish I had as I agree that it was one of the most beautiful sport bikes ever built. Great video.
my dad had one :D his biggest regret to this day is selling it
I have a picture of this bike (the R7) with my oldest son at the Motorcycle show in Cleveland Ohio.. Always liked the way this bike looked
i didnt know this even existed and i have an r6 hah
I know where two are located in WA State. 1 has been race prepped, the other is road going with the SBK Kit installed. For those in the know many 600’s of the time made more hp as my ZX6-R did until the kits were installed. Many from that point with the kits installed would go on to grenade. Go to exotic motorcycles web site and you will see at least 3 that have changed hands in the past few years.. As for pictures being difficult to find I fair to differ.
Honda fans hit like👍👍👍
I remember when I bought my first peugeot 103 mopped, this bike was for sale in my small village in France. It was the most beautiful bike in that shop !
The R7 and the Kawasaki zx7r are my favorite looking bikes.
Finnally, a man with sense 👌👍
I completely rebuilt and owned a first gen R6 with the same color scheme. To this day having had newer metric bikes i.e. kawi 636 and HD's it still is one of my favorite bikes I have ever owned, along with my Buell XB12R but the first gen R6 bikes were ahead of their time looks wise and set the new standard IMHO
I was lucky enough to actually sit on one as a kid when that bike came out. The Yamaha dealer sponsored my flat track racing program and the dealer owner bought one, he still has it in his collection. Lol I have one, a toy model still in the box.
My mate Mitch had one. The thing was very trick when you got up close to it. It had a massive hollow rear axle that look like it was titanium. It was one of 3 sold in Australia.
