They're called DAPs which stands for Digital Audio Players. People in this market that buy these players don't listen to mp3 files because of their low resolution. flac, DSD, WAV, MQA and the like are what they listen to; CD quality and above only. Phones also can't drive the headphones that they like to use (save for LG's quad DAC equipped phones that had decent amplifiers as well). If you knew, sorry to bore you. If you didn't, check it out. You'll understand why there's a market for this stuff.
I never stopped listening to music through MP3 players. Streaming is limited by your internet connection, phone storage is taken up by other media and apps and I like owning my music.
Look up the Surfans F20, I’ve had mine for 2 years and still love it. It has a spinning wheel and physical buttons that are very satisfying to use. One thing to note is that it only supports up 15,000 songs no matter how large the as card. I only have a couple thousand and half of them I never listen to but I’ve heard some people say that’s not enough.
Same here. I posted a video not too long ago and it’s surprisingly usable in 2023. Only thing I’d change today is the cable port, but I love the little bugger 😊
@@orangeyellow-me1pz I’m not a demanding person 😂 to expand on my comment, if I could have a single update to the iPod, it would be the cable port change to USB-C. All the changes you suggest are good, no two ways about it
I like the idea of single-purpose devices like these on an ideological level. Phones have melted our brains. It does everything, and has every feature, but does it poorly.
Honestly, if you’re willing to give up Bluetooth audio and streaming, a PSP still makes a great audio player! It’s easy to expand the storage these days, sounds great, and is super easy to fit in a pocket
I've been using a cheap but pretty good MP3 player when I do my workouts. It allows me to focus more on my workouts by getting rid of potential distractions. I only have 1 hour for my workouts every day, so I need to make the best of it.
The biggest reason for most music players still existing will be enhanced sound quality, tho probably the cheaper ones aren’t as much of a jump. Also a lot of people just want to not be bothered by 5 billion notifications on their phones while listening to music, or just are tired of modern smartphone world. Tho this player running android 13 is smashing that idea a bit
As a privacy conscious person, MP3 players need to make a comeback because our phones leak so much data about us. With an mp3 player, especially the new ones, I can enjoy the luxuries of listening to music and podcasts without sacrificing my privacy. I can keep my phone in a faraday bag and just listen to my mp3 player whenever I don’t need my phone
Bro if you don't want to spend 200 dollars for something that shouldn’t be this much. Get a prepaid phone, they work perfectly fine and you don't have to have the worry of the $200 mp3 player running too slow. Prepaid phones go for like 30-70 bucks.
Plus you own your music. Phone have taken so much hdd space unless your willing to pay for the 1tb phone which will be way over priced They would make you use a streaming service to then pay another monthly bill and even then you don't get the music you want.. sadly this is needed.
Too much money. In today’s world, I can’t justify spending $200 for something that I can do on my phone. Yes, they’re nice, but when you have a phone with plenty of memory;,I can’t justify spending that much. Maybe $100. That would probably help me make up my mind.
You can't be serious. No, the phone can't do what that thing can. It's far too weak. Not enough power at all. Then there's the noise. There's a reason why that thing is so thick. If I were to plug my planars into my phone, oh, wait, most phones don't even have a headphone jack. Maybe a dongle, wait, still not powerful enough. You can't justify it because of budget constraints, cool but no, your phone is sh!t in comparison. You should go back and listen to a CD player and realize how garbage your phone is.
@@orangeyellow-me1pzI don't get it. What do you mean by powerful? I thought it was just an android device just to play music. Most mid tier smartphones have 3.5 jacks and micro SD slots. What makes it special? Edit: My Poco M3 was able to handle FLAC, WAV and had a jack and micro SD tray and that was a cheap-ish phone.
How about you just buy a decent used phone or even a new budget one with a headphone jack and sd card slot that'll still be able to do all the normal things a phone can? There's plenty of that in the market
@DKNI Can it play videos on a monitor via any of its ports? I travel for business alot and I've been looking for a device, other than a phone, that will play video/music on a monitor. Any help is appreciated! Thnx everyone
If you like thin sound, Bluetooth, compressed audio, know nothing of tonality, timbre, don't know what is meant by 32 bit audio, don't know what planar magnetics are, then sure, it's pointless. Continue enjoying bad audio. Your wallet will thank you.
@@TacosCanned 32-bit audio is far, far above the volume range limits of your hearing, and that's if you turn it up so loud that the max volume destroys your hearing. At a sane listening level, you don't need more than 16-bit or 24-bit as that already gets very close or just about surpasses your hearing limits. 32-bit is only useful for producing music where you want to maintain the best resolution for adding filters and effects, otherwise you're wasting storage space and money. It's kinda a self-own bringing that up.
I like to see a video of modern mp3 players

FiiO made something like that in the past but it's just so outdated now, especially if you have a very large library.

Oh man I want that 😭, but it's expensive
As someone who gets in trouble at work for pulling out my phone just to skip through music, physical buttons are sorely missed.
Ayo the top left at the cd part
A genuen question: why would someone use an mp3 player like this, that basicly has most of the features of a phone, instead of an actual phone?
Not mentioning the supported formats is superlame
