As to the one with the guy eating all the snacks, I remember another one where the woman bought a lockable small cabinet to keep some snacks in, and if i remember it correctly he broke up with her because she would not either give him a key or get rid of the cabinet.

I’m pretty good about leaving my husband’s snacks alone. But if it’s something that is too tempting for me, I tell him to put it where I can’t reach it. I’m 4ft 6in and my days of climbing to reach something are over.

For the last story, getting Non Emergency involved is the correct thing to do. Because all it takes is one accusation by the kids parents to ruin your entire life. Better to have legal documentation of the situation.

I’ve been on both sides of the story with lost kids. I agree, call the cops if it’s a strange child. Stay put where you found them (even if it’s your porch, driveway or yard) unless shelter is needed. Taking the kid inside (which is what I did) is a suspicious action and makes it harder for parents who are actively searching.
I also agree with not feeding the kid because of potential food sensitivities or dangerous allergies. Water is always safe, if you need something to occupy or distract them stuff like fidget toys, pen/pencil & paper, and hand held games should do the job.

If Spot's in as bad condition as it sounds, running away where the brother can't reach Spot may actually have saved his life. Age, pain, and health issues can weaken the system of any living thing, people have died due to pain being so intolerable, there's no way in hell that animals would be immune to it. It's an extreme, very unlikely possibility but it IS a possibility, one that OP no doubt avoided by taking Spot put of reach

Oh the last one, when I lived in Phoenix, small child in diapers talked through my screen door. At 3 am! I went out and called over the fence to the woman who lived next door. No answer. I went in and got the toddler water in his bottle after I called police.
I was *furious!*. Cops and CPU finally arrived and they banged on the door, rousing the druggie. And yes, they said she was "under the influence of pills". CPU chose to not take the baby, the cops gave the "mother" a warning, and I never saw the toddler outside at 3 am again.
I honestly hope the little one was taken from her, but they moved shortly afterwards. I do not feel guilty for calling the police, and I'd do it again. 3 am, little toddler in diapers and in tears. Yep.

Personally if he was my brother I would tell him this is my house and my dog, don't like it then leave. I would also say try taking my dog and watch how quick I call the cops, I'll see you locked up.
I then would wait for him to go, then send him a bill for everything he damaged. If he refused to pay I would take legal action.
Personally your brother sounds like a brat to me and needs a reality check.

We found her mom within a couple of minutes, thankfully, but it was still a scary experience. I was only comfortable doing what i did because I have child care experience, and I'm on friendly terms with the security at my work. The mom was a single mom of 2 under 5. She knew her younger kid was a runner but thought the older one wasn't.

I'm with you on this. His GF is an adult and seems to WANT to spend time with the kid. She's not being taken advantage of, she's choosing to involve herself in their lives. If they got married, she sounds like a great step-mom and would treat the kid like her own. OP should back off and just encourage them both to focus on college and help out as much as possible. You can't force the Mom to care. It sounds like her son found a great GF and future spouse. Don't sabotage it.

The one with the neighbors kid running around at night, if I wasn't sure who's kid it was and didn't have their contact info, I would have called authorities as well. I did think OP and narrator were somewhat 'cold', I agree the kid is no one else's responsibility but the parents'.. however.. we as a society are hardening a lot and distancing from one another, which I don't think are good developments.. People do rely on eachother, that's just civilization. When you're getting older and need help with certain things, or just a woman living alone, you're glad to be in a neighborhood that still cares for one another and not just by calling the authorities. Just by keeping an eye on eachother. You don't need to be best buddies and have coffee every day, but smalltalk and such isn't that hard. If OP actually knew where the kid belonged, I do think its kinda cold and frankly weird to call the police instead of just walking the kid back to their house. Especially if it was a one time thing. I'd have some understanding if this kid was on the loose every other day and the parents weren't even trying to do better.
I'm just glad my neighbors are all very friendly and whenever for example my neighbors dog would have escaped, (which didnt happen often) I'd just bring her back and we'd have a friendly chat about whatever.

  • @disgruntledfastfoodemploye5337

Last story, I'm pretty sure that the neighbor lied to all the other neighbors and said that she called the cops on the child. For something the child did, I would make sure that everybody in the neighborhood knows that I called the cops for the child because she was lost. I guarantee that the neighbors don't know what happened and that the other neighbors been lying her a** off.

Ya know for Story 4 if she really needs too she could hide the chips in a bag and place them in a spot that her boyfriend would never look, just if she got a different bag to fill up the empty bag of the chips she has hidden if he is going to act like a child well put a certain snack he hates so the moment he takes a bite it'll be his fault as that would prove he might be doing it on purpose or he's just not thinking and caring what the chip is.

I think that we’re missing some vital information to make a judgement here, like how often this happens, and how the GF seems to want to take care of the grandson. For just the OP and her Son, I’m thinking it’s more of a ESH, just based off of the only information that we have, but I think that it’s leaning towards the OP’s end than the Son.

Story 1: Bro is the definition of a failure. You have no job, you live in your parents house, getting kicked out because you have no job, and being a spoil brat. He really thinks just because he owned the dog first. Like, who actually took care of it and cared for it. Not you. You have no right to take the dog. Also, saying that "I'm not asking, I'm telling." Like what the f-ck. If I were you, I would have scream at him and give him a piece of my own mind. Then I would have taken the dog somewhere else. Either way, good for you for leaving that place, taking your dog, and not letting him take him with him.
Story 2: Dude, OP's sons is a horrible parent. It's your responsibility to take care of your children, not someone else. Also, giving then to someone to take care of your child and then going to party even time. You should be taking care of him instead. You had the child, now you have to have to take care of him.
Story 3: Dude, you don't say that someone only has a few months left so that you get what you want. Like dude, not everything is about you and know no one want to be with you.
Story 4: Dude I don't even let my siblings get some of my snack unless I personally give them some. I like snack too, so if I was with someone who thinks they can just eat everything, even if it's not theirs, then I would have just left them. Also, the fact that he said to "Get over it" is just insane. Like dude is not going to change, and he'll just eat whatever he wants. I'd start hiding every snack you buy for yourself, and if he keeps eating your snacks, start eating his.
Story 5: I mean I see nothing wrong with what you did. You told them in advance, printed it in paper, and they said they would respect that and give you to day of. This means you didn't have to check the schedule because they agreed to it.
Story 6: Dude as a parent YOU ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR YOUR CHILD. If they get out of the house that's your problem. You should have made sure they couldn't get out. And what the hell. How is he in the wrong. He probably did the best thing he could have done. He called the police to check the on the girl. He had things to do, he doesn't know the child very well. Image what they would have said if he did take the child with him. He doesn't know them why would he take her inside his house. Also, if the police ask he to give her some snacks to calm her down, I probably would have said no too. He looked after the kid until the cops showed up, and then went on with his day.
