- Peter Hayes of Black Rebel Motorcycle Club first picked up the guitar at the age of 14 when he began trying to figure out how to play his mother's classical guitar. As he continued to play, his mother showed him flamenco and finger picking styles that had a strong influence on his playing and technique.
Peter would eventually go on to play with The Brian Jonestown Massacre and eventually form Black Rebel Motorcycle Club with Robert Levon Been in 1998.
In this episode of The Songbook, Peter stopped by to perform the Black Rebel Motorcycle Club song "Shuffle Your Feet."

Can’t believe this genius used to sit behind me in English class in California. Now one of my favourite musicians of all time!
He’s a pretty quiet guy
Clearly was never behind ✌️
I can’t believe it either
One of the most underrated musicians of all time!
With one of the best sounding laughter of all time, up there with Ron Swanson!
And 'Shuffle Your Feet' is a masterpiece, so light-hearted and graceful
Sam Bird I cant agree more
Most definitely! BRMC meant so much 2 me growing up and still does
He’s a musicians musician I think.
B.R.M.C FOREVER!
When Peter wanders away from Anton barefoot in 'Dig!' was a classic moment. 2005 Howl Tour was magical.
Indeed it was...one of the best concerts I've ever been to and the guys were just playing pool at the bar before the gig meeting fans and all... can't beat that
This guy is hands down my biggest inspiration
Met him before a gig, chatted for like 20 minutes talking about all sorts, such a gentleman and nice guy....and one of the slickest guitarists in modern rock'n'roll
I had the same situation with Robert. I'll always be grateful for his time. Such real artists!
I spoke to Peter for half an hr before a show in Manchester. He's such a dude.
I love him and his band, he and brmc are very underrated, so talented. He is in my top 3 of favourite guitar players💓
and may i add a brilliant harmonica player
@@theramblers69 oh yes for sure he is awesome at that too and then playing guitar at the same time, badass, just amazing i would love to be able to do that😎
I don´t think BRMC is underrated anymore. They have huge success selling albums and on touring. I enjoy they are still some kind of "Secret" tip.
I heard he actually built the harmonica with the mic that you see in live shows
It's so weird that he seems such a down-to-earth, almost shy, and quiet person and yet projects such a powerful and almost imposing aura when he performs live.
I could listen to Peter just talking abt anything for hours 😍
and how tf is this not in my recommendation??
Very underrated band.
thats it? we need more of Peter!
Yeah. In fact it´s not much here too....
this is terrific, their music changed my life at a certain point, got to meet them, this video is awesome, songs like berlin, 666 conducer, half state and feel it now are part of my dna, especially berlin which is my all time awesomest favorite peice of music
I'm around the same age as Peter and and the fact that our generation was blessed with a musician of his type and caliber is pretty extraordinary considering brmc broke in the early 2000s. You can hear all the influences but everything was blended so well into something people could be excited about. He had a cool image but also the songwriting chops to back it up.
Thank you for featuring Peter!
Love this dude, and this whole album is just insane. Totally outside my comfort zone, and yet so familiar...
Cheers
Awesome! What a band. What a guitarist. What a writer. What a guitar!!!!!
Favorite player of all time. Wished it was longer.
My biggest inspiration this man. I met him 5 years ago after a gig from brmc and he is so nice and respectful
He's a true gentleman, I've spent time with him in Tampa March 2019.
The best out there. Peter rocks!
My favorite person. 🖤
More videos like this love hearing this great musician talk about music!!
This is a nice find, the vibe, setting, decor, Peter Hayes and a awesome song! You beauty 👍🙌🙌🙌🙌
Peter Hayes : what a champion
Cool Stuff..Played on an iconic instrument..Love It!!!!
This rock n roll blues is so good man, hope we can get more
So beautiful human being
WOW!! that was amazing!!
So good. Thank you for this.
Love this man, Howl is my favorite album and of course song (SHUFFLE YOUR FEET)
Im waiting for a new BRMC album, hopefully in 2020 👌 a great band
Excellent! Thank you.
Yeaaah!!! Peter Hayes!!! This dude is awesome!!! (y)
I love him so much! He should be at the Grand Ole Opry!
Pete is so cool and talented
AWESOME
Peter is just pure cool as f#ck
Legend
That guy Hayes... he's one rad dude
Intro Peter Hayes -Seasons
Oh hi Vlad!
Love that song. Such a clean recording... Still never been released though?
Influenced a generation 🖤
A true genius
What a guy, he’s the full package, him and rob, great musicianship and great songwriters. Oh by the way where is this place 😍😍😍 stunning spot
Peter rules! Greetings from Argentina
Wise words
2001 I was handed the B.R.M.C. album. Ever since I've longed for a P.H. solo album. Amazed there's not a cigarette around.
BRMC - Wicked!
Saw BRMC in Bs. As. in 2016 🤘🏻
wow
A generous dude
He makes a whole band
With all due respect to Peter, who is a great musician, but my idol is and will be his band friend, Mr. Robert Levon.
Peter 💣🖤🖤🖤♒️
Hes like johnny cash, in a house all by his lonesome
I don't think it's his house 'cause that one is used for 'The Songbook' but it could be perfect for him as you said. And also don't think he's that lonely 😬 guess he has two children 🤔 love 'em since day 1 🤟🏼
I'd love to know what strings are on this guitar
🖤333
What is the intro song?
omg what year is that guitar???
Name song 0.49?
Oh Peter...
Anyone know what that little tasty acoustic lick was playing in the beginning?
seasons
@@freakbeatphantom7497 is that song by Black Revel motorcycle club?

Hey Gibson, what guitar is he playing in here? First I thought it was a L-00 but then I thought the body looked bigger.
Looks like a J-45 1945 reissue. Gibson, please weigh in here.

Which Gibson is Peter playing here?
Is this Peter's own cabin there?
Had the pleasure of seeing BRMC live in Chicago. He's really great and very underrated, but he's a bit of an oddball.
Justin Ikpo they are so great, aren’t they? What made you think that Peter is an oddball?
@@PCG1970 He always seems a bit uncomfortable during interviews.
Moar Please
I’m glad he got rid of the other guy who was hogging the spotlight and holding him back. Finally! 😊
Jones town?
If that is his room then I am disappointed but not entirely surprised that there is a himalayan salt lamp sitting on the window sill.
Is it just me or does it sound like his harmonica is mounted upside down?
You're right. He learned to play this way.
6st.
Too short
He’s finally going solo. Good move. He doesn’t need the other guy who sings nasally. He’s holding him back. Much better this way with the slicked back grey hair.
lmao what are you takin about you know nothing about this man and this band
@@Rocks4You97 Yes, I do and I give free career advice too. 🤣😝
@@dynjarren8355u talking about Robert?
