Their heart stopped. Did you notice that all the games were pretty much high adrenaline. My theory is that the visa were how long the heart had left without the adrenaline keeping it going. So the games had to be played to keep the heart from stopping

The Joker card, in the manga, is a character who actually appears in the story. He’s a ferryman between the world of the living and the afterlife, who brings Arisu back to the real world at the end. So them showing the joker card could mean that the ferryman did his job and brought back all the survivors to the real world or it could also mean it's gonna be another game cos the manga has a sequel so we could get a season 3
No need for season 3 the ending was perfect.

Here's an explanation for everything. Borderland in Alice in borderland is literally a border between life and death. The games were actually life and death games, but they more decided who were worthy to live. So in other words everyone that died in games died in real life and weren't able to wake up from coma.
Also there was a lot of confusion about people surviving literally everything and how frustrating and unreal it was so here's an explanation for this one too.
It actually didn't had to do much with being in coma, since we had characters that died from small wounds too. It was purely their will to live.
For example in episode 2 when Tatta died because of the wrist injury, it's because he was ready to die as he was sacrificing himself.
The reason why Niragi (mummy) was surviving literally everything was because he's will to live was too strong. (some people wished it wasn't that strong lol). Same goes for Aguni (the soldier guy) and the characters that were close to death in episode 7.
Also about Arisu recognizing Usagi at the end of the series. What a lot didn't understood was that Arisu wasn't actually trying to flirt. Yes, he might have found Usagi beautiful but we got to know his character enough to know he's not the type that's into girls and spends time flirting with them. He purely recognized her, because his memories had strong feelings that wouldn't just go away. He was also the only one that said it felt like a long sleep.
While this is a great ending that explains everything there are some theories that it could be another game and things could be even more complex but who knows.

Where is the source that having a strong "will to live" literally makes you invincible to death, rather than being simple plot armor? Is there actual hard evidence or is it headcanon invented to excuse the writing?
@@Mukatutu it's actually a headcanon that i read while people were discussing the whole show and trying to explain everything and i don't really know all the stuff since i've just watched the series and haven't read the manga, but it really is a good excuse for the writing since characters just didnt know how to die

The fact that they were only in the borderland for 1 MINUTE is crazy 🤯 And those who chose to stay will be the next kings and queens.. I personally think this dont need a season 3 because ending with the joker card is perfect! This show really teach us to appreciate life better 💕
While technically this is how the manga ended, this was Netflix biggest Japanese show ever so since it’s such a huge success they may order a new season 3
I'm satisfied with this season ending, but I'm definitely more curious about what will happen if there is gonna be season 3 because of the Joker card 😂
Thats because your brain functions very quickly.
For example, do you know that your dreams are only 10 minutes in length? But you swear that it feels like its been hours or days. Or like you've had multiple dreams. But then you almost always forget your dreams. That's a real world explanation that this show is pulling in to explain this phenomena. The borderland kind of works int he same manner. You are in a dream like coma state and the others around you or that have died elsewhere are also in this world between worlds.
Well they could do a season 3 cause there is a Spin-off manga that takes place some years later

I like how the Queen of Hearts went over a bunch of previous tropes we've seen in these kinds of shows before like virtual reality, a world being in someone's own head to tackle trauma, and rich people kidnapping others for their own amusement (squid game). That ending tho had me in tears. Absolutely loved it.
-I think The joker at the end is the the joker card which is life. You never know what you’re gonna get .
-Mira was crying not because she was going to die , but because she was actually moved by arisu and usagi .

Also, I think what’s really brilliant about the tea scene is that this can really happen in the heads of people that block out intense trauma. Your brain will do anything to protect you from the truth and real memories, including lying to you. Mira was a manifestation of their minds literally protecting them from the reality of the situation. In psych we learned a little bit about delusions like this, so I thought it was super cool.

The borderlands was the bored between life or death. They were given the chance to fight for their life through the games (more so given a second chance) because all of their hearts stoped. They entered the borderlands based on the time they got hit by the meteorite hence the reason some people were there longer.
Alice in Borderland for me really shows how i would imagine a purgatory to be like, being in the border between life and death while fighting to survive and come back to life. And another thing is like the beams that killed the players is actually that line on the machines that detects your heartbeat (i think don't know what they called) so when the beams hit you that like when the line detects that your heart is no longer beating and you actually died. Also like i've seen how some reactors get so confused or fustrated when some players didn't die after suffering so many injuries (e.g Niragi, Haiya, Chichiya and Aguni), it's because of their will to survive in a sense that when you are in the borderlands you not only fight with your physical being but also your spirit fights so even if your physical being has lost it's will but the fact that you still willing to survive you will survive.
And the other face cards being game masters would only mean that they may have been in other accidents before and decided to stay in the game, and their real form is still stuck in a coma.
And Ann surviving was actually because of Kuina and how she wanted her to survive so they can become friends, so you could say Kuina was the one who brought Ann back to life.

Alice in Borderland manga was released in 2010. So I doubt that they copied from Marvel etc. Also, Japanese manga artists are real story tellers. Their manga "Ghost in the Shell" inspired matrix movies and Ghost in the Shell was written back in 1989.

I really liked this season and I would most definitely recommend it to people. But just a couple of things I wanted to say. Yeah the borderlands was like the realm between life and death so they were fighting for their lives. 2 I think y’all noticed already but they forgot each other after they told us the real truth so that had me a bit mad tbhhh 💀. 3 ann did die, but kuina(or flip flops) declined permanent residency for both of them when she held Ann’s hand and said let’s go back together. Which is how Ann survived . Also that 1 minute that their hearts had stopped represents 2 months in borderland. So each second represented one day in the borderlands so like thousands of people were dying each second

There are little things that I thought of back when I was trying to figure out my feelings.
One, in first season, when Karube and Alice was going into that Tag game, they entered the building saying, maybe there is a doctor for Chota. Funny enough, there was a doctor, Nike Jacket, Chishiya... :") Ofc, they had no idea about it.
Then two: when Aguni first met with Alice and Bunny in the Beach episode, he said to Bunny to come with him, and Mummy immediately thought, Bunny will be a bedwarmer.... but did you notice how much Aguni actually appreciated talented, good figthers who would obey to his commands? He saw Bunny jumping down of the side of the building, saw how agile she is, and how quickly she adjusted to the situation, and Aguni liked that. I am pretty sure, if Mummy didn't make it so weird, Bunny would"ve got a promotion into Aguni's group. But then Hatter came, and said, no funny bussiness with the newbies...
Three: are you not actually believe, that Nike was going to sacrifice his life for Bunny, right? Come on, guys... He is the smartest smartaxx in history, he knew exactly, how to stand against the bullet to not lose his life from the shot. Granted, he lost a little blood, and he wasn"t in the best shape, also I don't want to belittle his intentions. He really wanted to do something noble, something that people would be proud of him for, something heroic and "uncharacteristic". So he wasn"t just fooling around. But he knew exactly, that if the shoot will land in his shoulder, or more of his right side, he can survive.
Four: If only Aguni would have kicked Mummy at the end, if only him and Alice would have grabbed Mummy, and drag him into a building, or onto a roof of a building, and gave him a gun... Do you remember the first time we saw Mummy? He was sitting on an actively going rollercoaster, and shot a bird down in its flight. He is an effing excellent SNIPER, his aim is on point, even at the end, Nike said it, Mummy (although he was halfdead) purposely didn"t aim for Nike's vital points, while Alice was standing between them. Imagine... imagine, if Aguni actually dragged Mummy to the place, where they fought with the King of Spade... Mummy would have EASILY headshot him, and game over. No one would have gotten so much wounds. They would have win that game so much sooner, than they did...
And finally: I think the Joker actually represent life, and the Borderland is somekind of purgatory. You say, they were in a coma, but even if they were, how would they meet up with each other, right? They all died for one whole minute, and they were in afterlife, but not totally dead, because, as you also said, they had the will to live, and fought for life. But they were actually dead, just for a very little time. And when they came back, the Joker card was here, on the table, placed just like the cards were placed in the game, in the centre of the table. Because life is everything, that they experienced in borderland, but also nothing, that they have experienced there. I could be wrong tho, and I think it was confirmed to have a third season, which I hope will be about Nike, hehehe... He is my absolute fave. And I cannot really choose, which season was better, tbh, maybe the second, but only because we had a LOT of Nike in this. But I really loved a lot of scenes and games in the first season as well. Hard to choose.

Joker is actually just the ruler, a supernatural being, omnipresent and omniscient. They did not include his dialogue and appearance in the show, but they left the clue to him with this last card scene.

The end question wasn’t rhetorical, people who accepted citizenship actually stayed, shown how the face cards were ‘citizens’. I think the main thing is that those who accepted either liked the games, simply found their own philosophy through it, or were trying to find their meanings. The two that accepted liked the games, whereas the king of clubs found truth in the games, & the king of diamonds and queen of hearts likely were looking for meaning in the living world. That’s why diamonds accepted death on his own and the queen was moved by Arisu and cried.
This show is amazing! Ik some ppl are turned off by the ending but I love it. I bawled like a baby! Their will to live is beautiful ❤
Having watched this season twice now and having listened to your reactions and thoughts there's one major character this season who said one very important line that so many people seem to be overlooking. It could be perceived as a throw-away line but I feel its very relevant to the netflix version of the story. After the King of Spades says "I'm sorry, it was the only way that I could save them" has given me the impression that he was trying to send them on from what's almost a version of limbo. It gives me the impression that he new something that perhaps no one else did, he was trying to set their souls free of Boarderland.... Just a theory of mine but it's the only thing that really justifies his final statement, at least to me.

I'm so glad you guys sat and chatted about it after. Those final episodes are a whirlwind, but the writers really pulled it together in the end. It was really satisfying to see you process all of the beauty and deeper meaning to Alice in Borderland. Truly a masterpiece, in my opinion.

How'd you guys got confused at who stay and who don't? lol 😅 I think its the subtitle. There actually two version of english subs. Netflix and internet version. Both actually explain things differently. I did think that this season a bit rushed. If only they have 2-3 more episodes, maybe they can explain so much about whats going on.

You guys handsdown best reaction. Funny and deep conversations, very mature and smart guys. This is a 10/10 show. You can't rate it 9.8 come on.
This is one of the very very few shows that I was satisfied with the end. Most shows end either anticlimactic, don't make any sense or abruptly with too many questions. I finally got an answer which blew my mind, but made perfect sense. Also made me want to rewatch the whole series. And most of all it wrapped up perfectly with a complete end and quick epilogue.
I love watching K-dramas with you ❤️ when you guys start a new K-drama I recommend one of the three:
1- the glory
2- Bad and Crazy
3- Vicenzo

This is my all time favorite show and the topic of life and death and the way it approaches is so creative and clever. I actually felt inspired and determined after watching the show. Thanks for your guys reaction it was a fun ride.
haha don't blame yourselves for being confused with the "I don't want it" answers. when I was watching this episode I understood what they meant, but at the same time I was thinking their way of answering wasn't exactly clear... I even thought what if the game masters (or whoever is in charge) misinterprets their answers LOL. should have been a simple "yes" or "no."
Something that is commonly misunderstood:
The people who died in the game/borderline weren't people who didn't pull through. They were people who were already dead to begin with.
People like Chota and Karube (who died in the games) were immediately dead on impact - that's why their names were read out on the news.
The people who were on the brink of death and didn't pull through are the people who chose to stay in the borderlines at the end.
Imagine tho if they remembered everything... the trauma 💀💀💀

Yes, the show was a play on people's will to live...essentially all players had been in a traumatic event and those that survived were those that continued to fight for life, thus keeping them alive in the real world. If you died in the Borderlands, that was literally you giving up the fight or losing the fight and your real body succumbing to death. In the end, the choices to be made was to either remain in a coma or to wake up from the coma!
Masterpiece drama.

I haven't read the manga so I don't know if this is confirmed or not.. but a theory I have is that the red lasers are not lasers, they are the persons heartbeat flatlining.

I think that's the brilliance of the show, they don't spell anything out for you & leave it up to each person to decide what they get out of it. The show allows for deeper conversations about life etc. It emulates life in that there doesn't necessarily have to be an answer for everything. I tend to like shows that make me think & contemplate even after it's over. I recommend it to others because it also allows for those deeper discussions & debates. Agree that I'm okay with this ending. Not sure how I'd feel about another season if they try to create one. I know the manga ends here but it did have spin-offs. Joker card is the game called life. Let me tell the truth. The story of the original comic book ends here, and the Joker card means that all the adventures are just a joke of the clown. When the meteorite fell to Shibuya, everyone entered the dying place(Borderland). People who choose to return to reality after the game passes will wake up, and those who choose to stay in the borderland will become vegetative in reality and never wake up, until they die in the game, and people who die in the game will also die in reality due to ineffective rescue.

People died during the game and real life because they lost their will to live, which is WHY so many people who should’ve died in the borderlands like the military people that lived because they 100% wanted to live inside their heart. Also, I also felt it was a little bit rushed however this was how the manga went so no complaints there
Mira is a psychiatrist, a specialist in neuroscience. That is shown in some panels of the manga

1- when they said they didn't want it they meant the permanent residency.
2- they were all in-between life and death after being hit with the meteorite (everyone who dies is sent to that place). So the borderland was an actual place that did happen but their souls were the ones playing the games. If u died in a game u actually die in real life but if u won u get the chance to choose to go back to life again and they won so they chose to live again and become different people and change their lives. So they have no memory of what happened in borderland but it did actually happen all in the span of 1 minute :p
3- Ann didn't say anything back to flipflops but i believe flipflops chose for her or maybe she was barely alive then so she wished to go back in her head without being able to speak it out.
4- i believe flipflops is a transgender female and the last moment was when her dad finally accepted her for who she is.
5- remember the girl they saw in that film camera in the van?? She was about to tell the guy that was filming about how she was the only one who remembers the meteorite and knows what actually happened that day after the fireworks and the truth about the borderland but she wasn't able to cause the king of spades shot her.
6- after finding out the truth, it makes sense why the ones who chose to quit games were immediately killed with the laser. They basically chose to die and not play anymore cause they were already dead from the meteorite.
7- so basically the kings and queens (residents) were probably people that died a while back due to other reasons and chose to stay there cause they liked it or they had nothing to go back to. This also explains why at the beginning different players were more familiarized with the game. So they weren't all victims of the meteorite, some of them are probably people that died before, years ago even or months before from natural causes or accidents.
It's an amazing show and the last episode was amazing.

the joker card means the end of the game is basically on the whole saying how you got tricked into thinking this and that was happening but it truly wasn’t. it’s also on the whole thing how REAL life it’s just a joke/game if you think about it the queen said multiple times that actual life is a game that you battle all the time and that’s the meaning of the joker card.
People think that there might be season 3 because the manga has a sequel but it doesn’t really correlate with the series so it’s really unknown but I hope they don’t continue it because this was a perfect ending and making another season seems like torture porn and unnecessary. Another thing the borderland is the border between life and death so everyone that died in the game were people that automatically died because of meteor or died during the coma and the people who decided to stay at the end are stuck in a coma forever. So everyone who decided to leave the place have been woken up from the coma, the only reason people think Ann survived was because flip flops held her hand when she was making the decision which made her comeback
it was real they were literally in purgatory that was the borderland and they had to fight to get out and that’s why they survived.

Mine's Season 2 coz' the face card games felt like a real upgrade, it was action-packed and more backstories, f'ed my brain but it ended with a beautiful conclusion. S1 was definitely good too but it's rare for me to like a 2nd installment, opposite with Hunger Games. Hunger Games 1 is better than the succeeding installments coz' it's just about rebellion and an uprising storyline is a linear plot.

Here's the truth, You guys are overestimating ChisChiya. ChisChiya specialty is diamond. Yes, He is smart and observant. But Mira is THE manipulator. She could also play with his mind. Arisu and Usagi were easy targets as they are innocent and honest people, she would have probably used a completely different strategy with ChisChiya, who also has also traumas and a really dark past, the only difference with Arisu is the way he chooses to view life, a pessimistic view to be precise. Mira DECIDED to lose. She was not defeated, without Usagi help Arisu would have been die and if she really wanted to she could have kept messing around until it was too late for Usagi and Arisu would have accepted to save her. Mira is a very underrated character, one if not the most complex bosses in the series, followed by the king of spade and Kuzuryu(who was also not defeated) plus in Manga, Mira is one of the few survivors (in their era together with the King of Spade King of Club and King of the Diamond) who finished the game without fatal wounds or bruises. She probably outsmarted most of her games without getting hurt. Mira is not a Queen of hearts for nothing ❤️💅
I believe the people in borderland are not in comas. Their hearts have stopped so they r basically dead but they can be brought back to life if they win the game. So the ones who chose to stay are left dead not in a coma. This is shown when the firefighters at the end thought arisu was dead cause his heart stopped beating so they left him but then they saw him open his eyes so they went back to check on him. It's crazy how it all happened in a span of a minute tho. This show is really phenomenal
