A friend of mine describes Doyle as "Chet Atkins on crank", he doesn't mean this disrespectfully, he means that Doyle can play with speed as well as accuracy. He can play with the most light and melodic touch, or bring down the house with an amazing display of virtuosity and truly amazing speed. I don't really subscribe to the idea of the "Greatest" guitar player nonsense, at some level these greats can play anything at all, but I have to say that Doyle Dykes damn sure has no better. If you get the chance to see him play in person, take it, I guarantee that you will be amazed.

I met Doyle at Pastor Dale Ackley’s Church of God in Oakley, Ca. Some 20 years ago. I am blown away by his skill and nerve in the way he plays. He gave me one of his signature thumb picks and turned me on to acrylic nails to use as fingerpicks. Changes my playing the most dynamic way. Saw him again at NAMM 2020. He gave me a new black “speed pick”. What a gracious, humble, God loving man. Thank you, Doyle. Not only are you my guitar hero, you are a wonderful human being!

Great interview. He's been to my parent's church quite a few times to perform and I've seen videos of his performances there - such an amazing and unique player - incredible skill and creativity.
