I always carry a dental floss roll( in the plastic holder) with a few needles in it for a repair kit. It works well and dental floss is waxed, so its good for tent and rain jacket repair.

A good lightweight useful haversack kit! I have several, I go to the fleamarkets, pow wows and mid-evil type festivals here in Fl to find old style tan leather, blankets and gear. I got several leather pouches, flint and steel, knives, Axes, old guns, and bags at those places cheap. great video Dan and I like the oilskin haversack like you have there!

interesting bit about the haversack. They were originally bags for food rations. Haver from Havre (norse and west germanic) meaning Oats. Literally Oat Bag.

I have a haversack like yours and I’ve made a little modification. Since anything that is placed in the top pocket will typically fall out when I open it, I’ve sewn Velcro on the inside of the pocket so that I can seal it. Since doing this, I haven’t loss anything. Skillet

Brilliant. Love the ditty bag contents... once I start doing videos again I’ll be showing my haversack that I’m currently still finishing but it’s one of a kind and I think folks will appreciate it. You e given me good ideas for additions to it so thank you!

I am more a Backpack person myself, but you have a Nice Kit, I did notice the Oil Skin Cloth to sit and wrap stuff in, and I use a Small piece of foam but when I saw yours I got a thought... Cut it in a Large Circle can still fold easy, But Run Some 550 Cord or something along the outside edge as a Draw String so you can draw it up into a Bag. got to get me some spare Oil Cloth now 8)

Very sensible haversack kit, I carry similar but with the addition of a head torch. I use a Black Dianond Cosmo, useful for if you are caught out in the dark for some reason. You can use it to look for firewood after sunset and as a signalling device if you are injured and need help. Many people try to carry too much in a haver, you have got it right.

Nowadays, EDC. Back in them days, a "Possumle" bag. I used to call it a "Possibles Bag" on account of it Carrie's every thing "Possible".
Found out that were wrong. An olde timer I knew told me it is actually named after the Oppossum, on account of it is the onliest critter smart enough to have his own pocket! Henceforth and wheretofore it should be called a "Possumle Bag"

I always have my belt knife and a small chopper with me, usually my pipe hawk. I stitched two short lengths of paracord about four inches apart to the strap of my haversack that rests across my back. I can then attach my hawk to the strap and carry it easily out of the way. It also makes it handy to hang the whole package off of a branch when I stop to keep everything together and within arms reach. If I don't have the hawk for whatever reason, I just wrap the cords around the strap and tie them off to keep them out of the way. It's been my most useful mod. I've been thinking of adding another pair to the front to possibly attach a small neck knife... we'll see, but I've really grown fond of carrying my hawk this way.

I was out in my woods recently, realized I don't see many bushcrafters have a little trowel and small roll of toilet paper. Sure Corporals Corner shows digging latrines large enough for patrol.

Came home from a work t up, to find that my Haversack arrived. Got a quick question, I realize that oil cloth is for the most part water repellant. I was going to be treating a few items with Nikwax . . . in your view, would it be beneficial at all to at least apply Nikwax along the seems?
