    On the pencil vs pen discussion: If you also pack a small pencil sharpener it can also double to provide tinder if you can't find any. All you need is a stick to fit in the sharpening hole and you get easy thin curls.

    I've been an on again/off again hobbyist woodworker since I was young, helping my dad in the shop. There's not really anything new here that I haven't already figured out myself or been taught, except having a tourniquet handy, that's not something I had ever even considered, but seeing all these safety tips put together in one concise video is definitely a good refresher and I'd go so far as to say this should be a must watch for anyone getting into woodworking or for any parent to show their kids that want to help them in the shop. Even after working with table saws, miter saws, radial arm saws, etc. For 50+ years, I still get flutters in my stomach when I fire one up, a little bit of fear can mean the difference between having all your fingers at the end of the day or not.

      @simonh6371 Před 2 měsíci +1

      @@DriftlessWarrior Yep and even though I prefer Clipper refillable lighters for everyday use (being a smoker of various herbal substances), a Bic is better for outdoors/survival. This is because they are filled up and sealed in a factory under pressure and hold way more gas than a refillable lighter, which is just filled up from a pressurised bottle, but not under pressure per se. Had a Bic which I used every day and it lasted me over 4 months! A full Clipper won't last me a month.

    Dan spoke of headlamp...
    ..then of extra batteries;
    ~ I'm seeing many head lamps use AAA batteries. In that..
    ~ Krazy Glue put out a four pack of mini tubes of their super glue.
    Which comes in a decent hard plastic open/snap closed, holder/case. Odd number for headlamps but it safely stores four AAA batteries in hard case with rounded edges. js

I may go back anyway for $16. Just keep your eyes peeled. Walmart will sell the double walls all day for super cheap. I used to teach Wilderness Survival back in the early 80's. How to survive 72 hours. And I Never was item specific. Sure I told them a tarp, at least 6x8, with stakes and paracord. But that Tarp you sell, isn't even 6x8. So wow, for the price your charging. You most probably will delete this comment. As for a compass, I have a vision problem. Yes, a Tarp is a better option.
      However, I see Dan's point in insisting on standardisation regarding equipment used during training.
      It depends inter alia, on Course Level, Design and Duration.
      If one is not happy with the pre-conditions, then one can go elsewhere.
      Training is big in the Mining Industry and I was involved therein for many years .. technical and supervisory. We standardised .. with everyone on the same page, it made learning easier.

      Oooo, you brought up a good point. Haven't used my compass since before I lost the sight in my right eye. I need to get mine out and see (pun intended) whether I can still use it, or if I need to replace it. I will look (pun intended again) into the Lensatic brand. Never heard of it before, and it's always fun to research new gear! Thanks so much for mentioning that! (I really ought to go through all my warm-weather outdoor gear and figure out what needs to be modified/replaced, as the vision went bye-bye in Sept. and this will be my first summer without it.) ;)

      @@DriftlessWarrior Its not a brand of compass, its a type, like the military uses.

      @@thomasmusso1147 The T6Zero shelter, is a Tarp, about 5x7, and a small one at that. 6x8 is the smallest tarp I will use when camping.
