I want to know if you have ever faced any turbocharger failure in your car, be it any make or year. I want to know how was your experience and how much did it cost you. Please do make sure to share by writing it down in the comment section below.
Hi fm Singapore here. Exactly after 5 years warranty period over my 318i 1.5l started giving issues. 1st air resonator leaking, 2nd fuel tank breather valve 3rd Heat treatment module gone bonkers 4th turbo charger need to replace. All within 2.5 months. Fm Ultimate Driving Machine to Bring More Worries. Haizz
Sorry to hear about your ordeal. I got my turbocharger replaced while the car is still under warranty. A top tip would be to sell off these cars once their warranties are due to expire or ask your dealer for an extension of warranty of it is available. Goes a long way in saving costs especially once the car starts turning older.
Had the same problem with my BMW 318i, and it took forever for BMW Malaysia to order the part (2 to 3 months) and another 1 week to get it fixed - when the part arrived. While waiting, still needed to drive to work etc and it was an embarrassment as there was so little power to work with. The whole episode will deter from ever getting a BMW again.
Good day. Thank you for the informative video. It’s helpful. I have a similar problem or issue, it’s been about two weeks, which at first it had been taken to the workshop, I was told they have replaced the thermostat because they were not sure what causes the drivetrain issue. Of coarse is on extended warranty. Please help I’ve driven the car for over a week and issue is still there.
GOod day mine comes after driving 5miles and it drops the power then later it drives fine my turbo was refurnished two months backs today i have replaced the spark plugs and it still shows the drivetrain, when we diagnose it it shows error "p0013"Exhaust(B) camshft position actuator circuit/open(Bank 1)
Hey @mr mzee. I have same model 318i 2016. I saw the same warning today while driving. The warning went away after 15-20 mins. I restarted the car and no more warning. My car is out of warranty so planning to show it in a external garage. Any suggestions on non bmw garages in Dubai/ AD where I can get it checked? Thanks
thanks for bringing up this here, i am Facing the same issue and bad part is its not under warranty .. kindly advice best reliable and cheap place to do it?
I am facing the same problem right now. It’s with BMW AGMC right now and they are replacing the turbo charger. I wanted to know whether the same problem has occurred again with you since you got it replaced 8 months back. And also what is the reason for the turbo failure ? Anything we need to keep in mind while driving.
My car has recently crossed 50,000 kms and so far no errors, warnings or any failure. The reason for this failure could be many. From design to manufacturing defect to simply the stress cycles (heat, fatigue) these turbochargers go through in their life time. The failure to lubricate the bearing inside them can also lead to a failure. Turbochargers are prone to failure due to high speed nature operation. You can avoid stressing out the turbocharger by being gentle with the engine and not red lining it. This way the turbocharger won't have to spend a hard time functioning.
I have a 316i 2015 with 30000km mileage... it broke down on the road a few days ago. Have not had it checked by the service centre yet but a mechanic let me know that there was a problem with the fuel system... Do you have any information about that?? How much it may cost?
My 2016 318i turbo fail at 80000km last month cost ard SGD 4000 or USD 3000 to replace (not done at dealership since out of warranty)...looks like this made model of turbo quite unreliable.😡
Small turbos are okay many cars through the whole decade no issues but what bmw did with 318i they used water heat shield turbo this is tend to fail because it is new technology and used only in mini cooper 3 cylinder and bmw 318i
It could be anything from an oxygen sensor, exhaust sensor, injector issue to a fuel pump issue to name a few. The warning symbol is the same for all the problems. So better to get it checked from someone with a computer who can plug it in and pin point out the specific problem.
@@MisterMZEECars ok mate thanks for reply ,out of curiosity could it be related to EGR sensor?? I had safety recall but they only inspected it instead of replacing it thanks
Oh no! That is a pretty long time. For me, the turbo was available which is why it got fixed quickly. Without a turbo, I was looking at 2 weeks or so. Hopefully you get your car soon. Good luck. Thanks for sharing here👍🏾
Nope this 318i does not have Apple CarPlay nor Andriod Auto. Just bluetooh and basic USB connectivity as a drive. Not really sure if one can add that as an aftermarket feature into that iDrive system.

Thank you for sharing that bit of information. What model year is your car?
Hi... Which garage do you send your BMW for servicing?
Hello. My car is still under warranty so I usually send the car to BMW service center.
@@marwanalzadjali7101 what about you? Where do you send your car for servicing?

3 cylinder engine lot if stress on turbo charger. B38 worse driving experience ever. So sad what happened to great 318i with B38 crap !
Mine comes when I start the engine. The Car Shakes and Switches Off itself. I have an F30 (2013, 316i)
Does it switch on later? Have you found any solution to that?
I have the same problem. What could be? Left side of the engine I ca see oil and smoke after few minutes? What may be the problem?
Did you solve the problem? What it was?

Yeah it could very well be that too. The warning shows up for the EGR sensor failure also.
